Von Muir p. 75-78: "Chapter 9: Edward and the All-Swallowing Serpent"

Cúchulainn is the Esper of Poison, associated with the sign of Scorpio. His grotesque form disguises a benevolent origin, taking the evils of the world into himself to suffer them in the world's place. The tragedy of Cúchulainn is that he did not rise against the gods of his own free will, corrupted instead by the very reason for his own existence, and now is doomed to solitude, watching as everything around him withers and dies.

Cúchulainn is the first Esper acquired that requires two Mist Charges to summon, and, as a being of a higher tier, the rewards for making a pact with him are that much greater. Vaan can learn the Stamp Technick, Balthier can gain the use of Firaga, Thundaga, Blizzaga, and Sleepga Magicks, Fran can acquire an extra point of Magick, Ashe can pick up the Libra Technick, and Penelo can learn to use the Wither Technick.

Writing Assignment 8 due!

When I thought of starting thread participation for this LP, I never expected to have posters that were so consistently determined to be nice to me, but that's what the mechanical arguments this time around felt like. Still, I'm a sucker for hopechat and capitalized nouns, so Antipersonnel Mime takes this round. Balthier is certainly well-experienced in the corrupting nature of power, and is torn between idealism and cynicism, handing out his trust while always leaving room for the recipients to disappoint him. Let's hope Cúchulainn doesn't.

Antipersonnel Mime posted:

Balthier deals daily in corruption of all kinds as a Sky Pirate, and did the same back in his Judge days, I'm sure. He likely started both professions with high hopes and ideals, but over the months/years, but has since been eroded away into contempt for systems & authority, dispassion for noble causes, and disgust at the everyday abuses of power upon, from and by the Common Man. However, our experience with that Streetear proves he's clinging to a vain hope that someone in this world will be decent when given power.

That Hope will be more than enough to control The Impure without one's self spiraling into darkness as well.
