Part 20: Renewal - Battle

Chapter 10 Battle

The team that the people voted for, with Kellam surprisingly winning out over Sully and Vaike. I forgot to note that last update's music carries over to the Preparation menu, replacing the usual prep OST.

This Thief way over on the bottom left would've given the biggest trouble since it probably be the first to escape. Usually, it would take a tanky flying unit to make it there to survive the horde of units waiting.

There's an easy solution for that, though. Let's start the escape from Plegia.

Surrender? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the word.

Emmeryn would not have wished for this to come to bloodshed.

Don't speak her name!

Your rage is justified, Prince Chrom. But the meaning of your sister's final sacrifice was not lost on me. I suspect many Plegians who heard her final words would say the same. If you lay down your weapons, I vow to protect you as best I can.

How can we trust you after what your barbarous king has done? I think we shall take our chances with weapons in hand!

I suspected you would say as much.

So be it, Prince Chrom. I shall endeavor to grant you a swift and dignified end.

The map ends if we just defeat a...pacifist Berserker? What? And why does he have a Beaststone? Maybe he killed Panne's race or something?

Music: Don't Say Her Name!

This track plays through the entire map. Player phase, enemy phase, both battle phases, and dialogue in between.

Chrom hitches a ride with Frederick to help him on hunting some Thieves. The B-support will be key, as an extra attack or even two from Chrom will help Fred's lack of killing power.

Libra got the Rescue Staff from Chapter 8 and teleports in team Fred so they can reach the Master Seal Thief. Without a Rescue Staff, the only way to reach the Thief on the first turn is via Peg/Wyvern with a +1 Move boost and a 2 range weapon.

I think this is much easier.

Gregor pairs with Nowi since they already have a C Support and Lon'qu will pair with Donny.

Nowi chips the Soldier with Gregor's help, then Donny finishes him off for a level.

Got all the good stats since speed would be overkill at this point.

Robin joins with Lissa to give a boost in power, while Kellam joins Tharja to boost her defense.

Tharja chips out the Wyrmslayer Thief, which opens up a death by Ladle from Lissa.

Fore!

Cordelia hangs out with Gaius as they move ahead and heavily damage the Barbarian.

They comb it for trinkets and spoils, then scurry away like mice. Pah! We shall bring them justice later. First, the Ylisseans!

Gaius counterkills for a terrible level. That is anything but "Sweet," Gaius.

A second Barbarian comes in and unfortunately hits Gaius despite low odds. At least he didn't critical?

Lissa gets attacked by a Soldier.

You asked for it!
You're finished!

It didn't end well for him.

Hmm, maybe the secret is to have her only level-up from the Support....

Time to tip the scales!

Nowi and Lon'qu try to take down the Wyvern Rider, but unfortunately he didn't produce the crit for once. I do like how each fight is basically in a giant puddle, splashes and all.

At least Lon'qu got B rank in swords to up his killing power.

Cordelia finishes off the Barbarian.

Libra sits on a fort to solidify himself against the hoard. while Fred kills the Seraph Robe Thief.

Farewell!

Oh yeah, he got a crit too because why not. What's 2%? 100% when it works.

Tharja and Robin barricade the middle canyon.

I accept any punishment you see fit, but after all that's happened...I just can't.

How dare you question the general's orders! You know full well the punishment for insubordination is death!

B-but, sir! These people are-

These questions are not ours to ponder, lad. The soldier does not judge. The soldier delivers judgment.

Sir, I...I cannot raise my lance against them. Even if...Even if it means death.

...You were there when Emmeryn spoke, weren't you? So be it! Those of you unwilling to fight are dismissed!

But I don't wish to abandon you, sir!

I cannot defy the king, lad. I know him well. He would murder my wife and child to set an example.

I will accept the blame for your actions today. Now go!

W-wait, General! I see a cause worth fighting for, one I believe in: Loyalty to my general.

...Aye. That's a good lad.

I am your Omega!

To be fair, Libra has a Killer Axe.

Rest in peace!

Okay, two times the charm.

Chrom gives a helping hand to one-round the attacking Barbarian. Fred also gains C rank Axes.

And two attacks from Chrom defeats the Soldier.

Fred is just about back to where he was stat-wise as a Great Knight, except with much better speed.

Robin counterkills a Barbarian without much trouble.

The Soldier at least hit her, for a piddling 4 damage.

Cordelia takes a big blow, but recovers enough to stab back for victory.

Oh come on, how did you not trigger a single Dual Attack, Chrom?

Ouch. I'm sure.

Robin takes out another Wyvern Rider.

Maybe Emm's spirits finally fixed Robin instead.

Tharja blocks the way so Robin can kill off the Bullion (M) Thief with little risk of dying on the enemy turn.

Produce a crit, damnit.

Well at least he got a legendary level-up. Also learns Vantage (attacks first on enemy turn when HP is less than 50%).

Good job, Cordy.

The Event Tile boosts their relationship, which will probably be B by the end of this mission.

Fred kills the Wyvern Rider with the prince's help.

The one nearby enemy couldn't even scratch Robin.

Tharja gets attacked by the Soldier. Kellam steps in and teaches him not to harm ladies anymore.

Imagine Kellam being A-rank with a long-range unit. That is him walking every single time.

Well, good! We're running out of soldiers to kill for EXP.

Libra heals Freddy and gains some EXP from the Event Tile.

Chrom wants some blood, too. For his revenge, you see.

I'm starting to believe in my Emm Spirit fix theory.

Kellam acts as bait for those Soldiers, while the rest of the team moves closer to the boss.

That's one.

Holy crap, an enemy crit on 1% chance?!

Oh right. Kellam.

Hooray for team Fred (Which is mostly Chrom doing all the work in the back). Chrom masters the Sword rank after the battle.

Lissa spams the Physic Staff enough to gain a level. Emm fixed Lissa, too.

Defense is nice and she really needed Skill and Lck. A rare good level for those kind of stat-ups.

Who do you think I am?!

Sure. 5%. Everyone gets a critical. You get a crit, and you get a crit....

And a level. At this rate, Nowi might have more speed than strength.

Reinforcements. For once I'm glad cause some units need to eat. I mean kill.

Gods forgive me!

One of those units was NOT Libra! You deserve that crit!

Ehhhh sure, I'll take it. Libra takes a Hand Axe from the other Wyvern Rider.

Fred and Chrom takes out the same Rider. Could really use some more strength, buddy.

Enemy reinforcements #2 here. Everyone except Nowi chills outside the range.

Nope, never mind. Three more enemies pop out from the bottom right and both middle forts.

Libra didn't crit for once.

Nowi baits out the two Wyvern Riders and it goes back to us.

Both Mercenaries combine to take out the higher health rider.

Gaius and Fred clean up the immediate area.

Gaius counterkills the Barbarian with Cordelia's lance.

Yes, that's sweet. Just keep gaining strength, that's all you need.

Well that sucked. The rider still lives after two attacks from both Donny and Lon'qu. You guys need to bulk up.

Lissa heals enough scrapes to get a fantastic level. She also mastered Staves.

Donny kills and gets a Donny level. The next few turns were spent forming around Fred to boost his crit dodge and heal a few wounds.

If you wish to keep your lives, then you must win them!

He's still alive despite a crit AND a Dual Attack from Chrom. Mustafa's been eating his wheaties.

Team Nowi gets the victory.

Please...spare my men...

Whoops.

Uh...hey, levels! Look at those stats go up!

And we get a Beaststone.

*An ally appears*

Olivia! I'm sorry we kept you waiting.

When I didn't hear from you, I thought...I assumed the worst.

Chrom? Robin? Meet Olivia. She'll be smuggling us out of here.

Only if you hurry! Doubtless more of the Mad King's men are on their way.

Right. Pile in, you lot! And bid farewell to this Plegian hellhole.

Ready? Hold on tight!

Next time: Mad King Gangrel
