Part 23: The Mad King Gangrel - Battle

Chapter 11 Battle

First thing's first, giving out the Seals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2ta12ZFHgg

Cordelia gains Swords and Armthrift, while losing a lot of Res and the ability to fly.

Gregor gains Axes and Despoil (Lck% of an enemy giving a Small Bullion). He gains a lot of strength in exchange for defense as well.

Kellam is really fast in exchange for being worse at defense than Gaius. Gaius. I don't get this choice but hey, at least vote for him for the future so the Seal isn't wasted...again (Fred). Swords and Locktouch are Kellam's tools now.

Robin and Chrom are the only ones to qualify for the two Master Seals.

Chrom gains Lances and...is that the Fire Emblem?! Damnit Chrom, you are the worst at treating legendary items ever.

Robin's self-aware as usual. Grandmaster's probably my favorite-looking class.

The party selected for this battle. Can never have too many healers.

All the new Second Sealed characters have bronze weapons with +2 Mt forged to them, effectively being iron weapons.

Let's end this war.

Music: You don't know the first thing about peace. No man does!

No more talk, Gangrel. Today you die, and peace returns to Ylisse and Plegia.

Pah! Such hypocrisy! You despise me, wretch! You want to cut me down! You don't know the first thing about peace. No man does!

I know more than you ever will.

More than me? More than ME?! Bwa ha! ...You ARE me!

When life asks you a question, you answer with blood!

Maybe you're right...I will never be my sister. I cannot forgive men like you-men who sow nothing but evil.

All I left of her are words, and her memory. Were I alone, I might be driven to madness. ...Or worse. But I'm not alone. My friends and brothers-in-arms stand behind me.

...Are you done? May I vomit now? Bwa ha ha! What a flowery harangue!

Men are beasts! Nothing more! We fight! We kill! We devour our prey! Beasts do not stand behind beasts, little prince. They use each other only so long as it suits their own selfish purpose!

Perhaps this explains why your own soldiers refuse to stand behind you? You are a poison. A festering wound. And I will do what my sister could not.

Such a clever tongue you have, little prince...It will look quite fetching hanging on my mantle, next to your sister's corpse!

*Olivia pops out*

Olivia is the game's only Dancer, a unit that can replenish a character's turn. She's extremely fragile, so protect her from harm at all cost. Her ability is Luck+4.

The enemies in front of Gangrel are the trigger traps. Gangrel can actually move about on the map, but only if you enter within these enemies' ranges. This is very important to know if you want as much time as possible to have Olivia dance to Chrom for their marriage. Also useful for waiting out on Gangrel's Lucky 7.

Nowi rides with Sumia to land in the grass southward. Sumia's speed and resistance boost will help deal with the cluster of Mages there.

Donny pairs with Sully and moves southwest. Olivia comes down and gives them a morale-raising dance.

Very sparkly.

More pair-ups.

Robin and Chrom join together and everyone moves south.

The Peg Knight Res boost is making Nowi nigh-invincible against Mages.

Even the Sages barely put a dent.

A lone Thief will steal a Bullion chest, but there's more than enough time to intercept it.

More of my soldiers shall greet them at every foolish step.

There's a TON of reinforcements coming from the forts, and they won't stop until Gangrel is dead or you wait out 6 or 7 waves.

Gregor takes a Glass Axe to one-shot the Sage and gain an impressive 80 EXP. He receives a Spirit Dust (Permanent magic by 2) for victory.

Despoil also triggered, giving us extra cash to play around with.

Donny camps out at the fort and takes out a Mercenary. The Event Tile gives a Superior Jolt.

Kellam finishes off a Mage with a little boost from Olivia to get there.

Nowi camps out at the fort.

I will not fail!

Robin targets a Mage and Chrom gets a crit off. He also jumps from where Robin is to where the Mage is. This guy's really angry.

Donny kills off the first victim of his camp out and gains a standard level.

Another Fighter down, and now Donny can finally use iron weapons.

Why even try.

Robin kills off another Mage. Team Donny gets attacked by a Hero.

The Hero is impressive for not being doubled by Donny, but on the other hand Donny is tougher than a promoted enemy unit by about 10 damage.

More counterattacks, with Nowi getting a level from chip damage.

Well, that's not too far from the truth.

Kellam still gains defense and resistance. And not speed. At least he got strength, definitely need more of that to kill things besides paper tissues like Mages.

Gregor transfers himself to Nowi and switches to be the lead.

GREGOR SMASH!

RIP Glass Axe.

Rift Doors summons Anna to the current location on the World Map. Some areas sell better "special" items than others.

Donny challenges the Hero again and gains himself another level from the chip. He's only a point or two worse than Great Lord Chrom. Yeesh.

After moving units around with healing and dancing involved, two more enemies spawn from forts.

A Fighter and the same Hero bites the dust on the counterattack.

A shame about the Res because he could probably solo Gangrel otherwise. A Master Seal fell from the Hero's pockets.

A dead Wyvern Rider and some enemy movement later, it goes back to us.

Nowi and Cordelia try to tag-team to take down the Wyvern Rider.

Too tough for them, though.

Maribelle gains a level after healing.

Lissa's gotta doing everything by herself.

More enemy reinforcements. At least these aren't in the vicinity of our party, though they start a pincer right away.

You are so dead.

Sully takes out an opposing Fighter, though she took a heavy hit despite low odds.

Sully and Cordelia combine forces to take down the Merc.

Even MORE reinforcements!

Nowi chips a Wyvern Rider twice thanks to Olivia. The latter gains a meh level, but Dancer levels don't really matter much besides HP.

Robin takes out a Wyvern Rider.

Donny takes on another Hero, this one with a Steel Axe.

Tharja finishes off Nowi's victim. That is a terrible level.

Oi, jeez. A bunch of enemies attack Tharja and Cordelia.

Robin gains a level after defeating a Fighter. Magic good, defense confusing.

Lissa's pretty tanky with a fortress bonus.

Thank goodness for Nosferatu.

Robin counterkills the pesky Hero and gains a Speedwing. What's more impressive is that she can double them, thanks to Chrom's massive speed bonus (at only a C-rank, too).

Lots of enemies move in for the final assault, including Gangrel since Tharja triggered the trap.

Cordelia starts the clean-up of this mess. Apparently female Mercs' finishing move is the Shoryuken.

She's starting off strong in her new class.

Gregor and Sully finish their targets off.

Finally some speed, Sully. She's been lagging behind for someone that has her grwoths.

She also gains an Armorslayer (Effective against Armored enemies, 8 Mt D-rank sword).

Some more housecleaning.

Anna's level after healing. Way to...play to your strengths?

Team Gregor gets a boost from Olivia and switches to Nowi to take out another enemy.

Oh gods, they keep coming.

Cordelia counterkills a Merc with Sumia's help.

Two Fighters bite the dust against Sully.

That's quite enough!

Cordelia is certainly the fanciest Mercenary in the land.

Boooo that's not strength.

Crap.

Boss Music: Mastermind

Oh thank goodness she's alive.

Nowi kills off the Thief, gains the Bullion (L) and a good level.

Gangrel has 24 speed. That is faster than Cordelia with a Peg Knight support bonus.

Chrom brings out the big guns.

My sister wished for our people to know peace, Gangrel. But as long as you draw breath, it can never come. For Ylisse!

Way to end on a high note.

Chrom wins the Levin Sword and Dragonstone, but there's still enemies to kill since it's an elimination map.

Lissa gains a level off healing, and Anna loots a Goddess Icon.

Next few turns are spent healing and getting Kellam into position to kill the last reinforcements.

Maribelle qualifies herself for a Second Seal now. Stats are pretty decent. She also learns Demoiselle (+10 Crit/Crit Avoid to all males within 3-tile radius. It's weird.)

Gregor takes us home. Speed is great for him.

Order our forces to cease fighting at once.

Yes, sire!

*Cut to inside a fort*

Music: The fight is now finished

We put an end to this bloody business, once and for all.

We won...Somehow I don't feel like celebrating.

Victory can be bitter as well as weet, boy. It's good you learn that now.

Regna Ferox lost many good soldiers today. We need to see to our dead.

Then it's time to attend to the living and rebuild our army.

I'm sorry, Flavia. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. Ylisse will compensate your nation in whatever fashion-

Oh? In that case, how about you hand over the Fire Emblem and we'll call it even? ...Hah! Just a little Feroxi humor. Don't worry after our finances, Chrom.

Reparations will fall to Plegia, and I've seen their treasury-they can well afford it.

Yes, pity the man who stands between Flavia and a full coffer, boy.

Heh, I'll have to remember that when you come to visit Ylisstol.

*Lissa, Basilio, and Flavia leaves*

What's wrong, Chrom? You look serious.

I...I think I owe you an apology. This wasn't your war to fight.

But I chose to fight it.

All I've been thinking about is stopping Gangrel, no matter the cost. Even my own life would not have been too high a price to pay.

It would have been for us! ...And for me.

I've been thinking a lot lately, about everything. And about you, Robin.

In many ways, you're the best fighter I've ever known...and the best friend. You are a special woman, and I...I wonder if you think of me as more than your leader?

I think of you as a great man, and...dear to my heart.

I never want to let you go, Robin. Does that make me selfish?

If so, then let me be selfish, too. I would be with you, always.

......

......

Robin?

Yes, Chrom?

We met under unusual circumstances, but lives have been made from far less. My sister always followed her heart, so now I'm going to follow mine...What I want to ask you...Well, what I mean is...

Ha ha! With a word you've made me the happiest man in all the realm!

Now I'll need to ask for a bit of patience for the near future...My first duty must be to heal the scars of war and assume my role for the people. But then, we can begin our life together.

That's all right. I'm a tactician, remember? I'll figure something out.

Thank you.

I can't help but think back to the day we first met...Strange, isnt it, the way fate brought us together? I am a lucky woman to have met you, and luckier still now.

I know together we can bring joy back to the royal palace.

I'll do everything I can to make the castle a happy home for us...my love.

My love.

Prince Chrom and Robin worked tirelessly to restore Ylisse's splendor. This would be no easy task, for the war had taken a heavy toll on the halidom. But with the Feroxi muscle and Plegian gold, they brought peace back to the people. All the while, the prince forswore the title of exalt, out of respect to his late sister.

Even so, his subjects grew eager for their new ruler to take a wife. And in his heart, Chrom had always known who that woman would be. The royal wedding was a joyous occasion, attended by thousands from near and far. Finally, it seemed that the last lingering wounds of Ylisse's history had healed.

But then, two years later...
