Part 33: Flames of the Blue: - Battle

Chapter 14 battle

Vaike makes a comeback from the grave as he gets voted all the stat boosters we've collected thus far.

Well. Vaike went from literally the worst unit on our team to one of the better ones. Speed's still meh but he has more than enough strength and skill to hit hard. B rank Axes gives him access to Hector's Axe, among other great weapons.

Henry becomes a Barbarian (We have no lance users but like 6 axe users now). He gets a Strength Tonic to give him extra punch, though now Henry is one of our faster units.

Morgan promotes to a Grandmaster, going to 20 for 3 stats which gives an extra point in pair-ups. Morgan is virtually superior to his mother already.

With all that out of the way, let's begin Operation Set-Ourselves-On-Fire.

This is a Kill Commander map, but there's too many units to just bullrush our way without someone being killed by the Peg Knights from behind.

Lucina gets her father's support and begins blocking the left ship's bridge.

Donny pairs with Gregor to give him the stats needed to last being a wall. Gregor ends with a Hand Axe ready.

Some more pair-ups.

Henry blocks out the right ship's entrance, and Robin waits in the upper area to intercept the Peg Knights.

Anna gives Vaike enough speed to prevent being doubled. Lissa supports Tharja mostly to give her the +10 hit.

Tharja waits on the edge for some non-Peg Knight enemies. Olivia stands in the safe zone to end the turn.

Lucina activates double Ignis to defeat the first invader of their boat.

Good thinking, Lucy.

Lucy tries to set a record as she activates Ignis and Aether to finish off another Knight.

Henry gets his first taste of melee combat and deals heavy damage.

Robin kills off a Peg Knight for a decent level.

Gregor counterkills another Peg Knight with Donny's help.

Two more Peggies fall to Robin. With Morgan's C Support giving good speed and Elwind equipped, she can take on another dozen of them without breaking a sweat.

Vaike, even with a speedwing and Anna's support, gets doubled.

Tharja, on the other hand, doesn't.

Gregor weakens a Cavalier foolishly galloping up to him.

Two more Cavs fall to the princess from the future.

Lucy gets enough levels for a promotion next mission.

A couple enemies get the chopper.

Morgan kills off a Cav from the southern ship, then Lissa rescues Vaike from the hordes of Peg Knights.

The left blockade had to disperse early to deal with all the Peg Knights, starting with Team Gregor wiping out a Short Spear carrier.

Gregor gains every stat except magic/resistance and more importantly gets in line for a promotion. He also learns Gamble (Hit rate -5, Critical +10), and Despoil nets the team a Small Bullion.

Olivia rejuvenates the Vaike to have him block out threats for herself and Lissa.

Lucina heals herself with Falchion and edges a bit north to make that Cav move around her.

At least he's not getting doubled. The Silver Axe is putting major work against the Peg Knights.

The Ylissean children counterkill some silly enemies. Morgan gets a Short Spear (5 Mt C rank Spear with 1-2 range).

Certainly underwhelming.

Henry is doing fine, but he's in that range of no man's land of speed where he doesn't get doubled, but can't double himself.

More cleaning up on a very messy battlefield...ship?

Outside of magic, Morgan is much better in every other stat. He's even about 5 points better on defense.

No, get off the course! The latitudes are wrong!

Tharja finishes off a Cav, then Anna takes the lead and heals Henry back to full.

Cherche keeps her distance to avoid the Elwind mages. Some of the usual dancing/healing at the end of turns occur to finish off.

Cherche finishes off her victim and gets a Chest Key from his corpse.

A big, bad General gets killed by Morgan's wind.

Gregor cleans up Tharja's mistakes and gains...literally the only point of magic he has. I'm sure that will be useful... At least he nets the team another Small Bullion.

Luck and resistance, eh. I guess getting to 20 strength will be useful for someone.

Lucy and Cherche begin to clean out the right-side ship.

Olivia gives Gregor more energy to kill and gets a third Bullion for the team. That's basically another Master Seal and change.

Ah right. Peg Knight reinforcements will show up from the edges of the map for a few turns.

Lucina triggers Aether for some healing as she finishes off a Cav.

The middle ship team retreats a bit to better handle the new Peg Knights, with Olivia gaining a good level.

This level on the other hand...

Lucy chips the Great Knight for a good level, getting to 20 skill for that extra support stat.

Cherche flies back to the middle ship and gives Henry the lead. More Peg Knights appear on the right.

The team weathered the storm. Now the question is how many can they kill in one turn.

That's two to start.

Gaining speed was great back when you were a Dark Mage. Now? Not so much.

That's 4.

Almost cleared, with Tharja getting a Short Axe (7 Mt, C rank Axe with 1-2 range) from beating the Great Knight.

Ugh, more.

Trying to out-Elwind Morgan is a foolish proposition.

The Tacticians stack a bunch of 20's to pile on the General's head.

Decent. He gains a Talisman after the battle.

Tharja's single digit skill and luck are going to bite hard at some point.

Out of all the targets, you chose Lucina? Shame.

Much better. Luck is the last stat.

These are not good last hurrah levels.

Almost done here.

Vaike celebrates his new tenure by spouting off his trademark line (After Olivia gives a little dance).

Vaike gets to that mystical level 10 for branching purposes and also learns Zeal (+5 Crit).

Gregor, Vaike, and Tharja combine their powers to whittle down this Great Knight before Henry deals the finishing blow.

That clears the map of mooks, so the rest of the mission spent getting the 3 treasure chests (Recover Staff, Medium Bullion, Second Seal)

13 Mt B rank Bow that gives +50 Hit/Avoid against Bows. 10 uses only.

Max HP +5, Defence and Resistance +2 until the chapter/skirmish's end. 5 uses.

Bad Olivia. Bad!

Ignatius attacks Gregor and stands pretty despite two attacks (including a crit) from Donny.

Then I notice a couple of my units are edging right on another level so...

Luck/defense for Gregor, defense for Cherche.

Speed and luck.

Donny gets the EXP to gain a level.

And what a level it is. A Master Seal drops afterwards.

*after the battle*

All appointed ships, change course! Head right at them! Ramming speed!

...Gods and thunder! And second now!

Steady... Steaaaady...

We're right on top of them!

NOW! JUUUMP!

The sea itself is on fire!

It worked! It worked!

Only you could hatch such a brilliant scheme, Robin.

Who else would desert half our vessels and turn them into flaming cannonballs? And there was still enough room on the remaining ships for all our troops.

It was so simple, and yet the Valmese never saw it coming. They never considered anyone might be willing to sacrifice half a fleet...

We may have won the day, but the war still looms.

We must continue on and seize control of their main harbor.

Aye, boy! I've had enough of the smoke and smell here for one lifetime, besides.

Full speed for Valm!
