Part 56: To Slay a God - Battle

Chapter 25 battle

Quite a few of the old guard are here for the penultimate fight. Alright, more like 3 but regardless them being here is a surprise. Of course, Cherche is almost completely useless due to her hilariously low speed but the people want her to fight.

Tharja is actually quite useful despite her terrible skill and luck since Tomebreaker makes her the perfect counter to Dark Fliers. You know, not counting Nah who counters everything perfectly.

Do you SEE what your great struggle has won you?! ...NOTHING! Master Grima has returned! The world's fate is sealed!

Or perhaps you simply seek a tender embrace here at the end? Hmm? I'm not completely cruel, you know. Come, I have a kiss for each of you...

You must reach the dragon before it is too late.

For anyone else playing this map, killing Aversa ASAP is the best and most practical solution to ending this map without casualties. This chapter has by far the most reinforcements we've seen so far, not counting any maps that spawn unlimited enemies.

Nah is going to stand in the middle of the Grimleals up front, hoping to weaken most of them for the others to get some kills in.

Cherche will heavily boost Gerome's defense to the 40's as he waits in range of 3 Griffin Riders on the left.

Flavia and Noire will bait out the duo Dark Fliers and Griffon Rider on the right.

It just wouldn't be the next-to-last map without some long-range bombardment. They aren't Batista, but they are just as annoying and are mobile to be more annoying.

Of course, it's not like Nah will ever get killed by such things. The Generals are doing a worse job at hurting Nah, actually as she gains a level off some chip damage.

Well that's a great start when Flavia gets hit with an 11% hit....

Nah, with a Dragonstone, brings most of the surrounding enemies to near death. The Berserkers unfortunately are too slow and have bad defenses to survive Nah, which gives her another level (+1 str/mag/def/res).

The rare time that there isn't a Wind tome user or Silver Bow threatening Gerome's life, he makes a pretty good tank.

Flavia manages to counterkill a Dark Flier, but she's down to single digit health already.

Need to mention that there are lot of Tricksters on the map and their purpose is to carry Levin Swords and use their Physic Staves to heal off any surviving Grimleal.

Owain and Noire start off the 2nd turn with a couple dead birds.

Henry takes Hector's Axe for its glorious purpose to kill the first thing he sees, taking out Flavia's attacker. Yarne feasts on Nah's bleeding foes, getting to level 11 (+1 HP/Skill/Spd/Lck).

Most dads would take their daughters to smashing watermelons at the beach, not smashing a General's heads at the hills. Basically Chrom is trying to win Father of the Year (Lucy level 8: +1 Mag/Skill/Spd/Lck).

Basilio takes out the Silver Bow for the accuracy needed to take out the Swordmaster. Maribelle fully heals Noire and masters Staves in the process.

Nah kills off the last nearby General because I ran out of people to kill him with to end the turn.

Gerome continues to take on the Griffon trio, leveling up from all the chip damage.

Brady Rescues Team Noire to get Tharja in range to roast some chicken.

Maribelle Rescues Henry for the same mobility boost (Level 3: +1 HP/Mag/Spd/Lck/Def), while Robin joins with Yarne for a speed boost and blasts a volcano under that Trickster's feet (Level 7: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd/Res). The feathered fried foe drops a Levin Sword afterwards.

And the Griffon Riders are defeated for now.

Flavia runs up and chugs an Elixir from Chrom's convoy, then Lucy runs up and takes down one Mire Sorcerer. Unfortunately, there's about 4 more of these as the Shepherds progress.

I just want to show you that Robin, WITH Yarne's support bonus, is still getting targeted for over 80% hit by the 2nd least accurate Tome in the game. Even without being a Dark Flier that has a whole bunch of weaknesses, she still wouldn't be that good at surviving besides being a Sorcerer.

Lucy is closer to what most of the other Shepherds have against Mire, though it's more stacked for her as she has a high support rank with her father.

Huh. Never seen that before.

Stop killing everything so easily, Nah! (Level 12: +1 Mag/Def)

Owain cuts down a Sage as he prepares to solo the right side of the mountain. Nah continues forward and weakens a General.

Flavia gets a Rally Spectrum boost to get the speed to double a Dark Flier, thinning out the horde that Lucina attracted.

Noire snipes a Trickster to get to level 15. Maybe next mission she'll take Archer a step further. In the meantime, she learns Bowbreaker which gives +50 Hit/avoid against bows.

Maribelle Rescues Henry again for another boost, but it wasn't enough for him to taste blood this time. He'll just camp with Helswath. Brady heals up Lucy to gain a level (+1 Mag/Lck).

Chrom Spears for victory to end the turn, which 2 new Generals spawn at the bottom of the map.

In hindsight, not a good idea to pit Owain in range of a Killer Lance enemy. (Level 10: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Res)

Three enemies get counterkilled, which I'm going to have to abridge a lot of the enemy phase because there are still absolutely tons of enemies.

I can't believe Pitchfork is still available, the very same one that was given to Donny way back when. I can believe that awful level by Cherche, though. 19 speed!!

Owain treks along and kills a Mire Sorcerer, relying on Renewal to get him through the mission. Flavia idles around to get some of the southern Generals to attack her.

Four more Generals spawn at the entrance, while one from the north attacks Noire at range and gets chipped to near death.

For once, a low percentage doesn't hit Flavia this chapter (Level 13: +1 HP/Skill/Spd/Res).

Gerome gets the heavy armor massacre going by smashing a guy's head in (Level 10: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd/Lck). Robin prefers her own method, burning the man from within. They are both not nice people on the battlefield.

Chrom finishes off the last General in the northwest area.

Basilio takes his turn to kill something as is tradition of the Khan rule or whatever that I just made up (Level 13: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd). Maribelle then Rescues him from the horde of Generals because he can't really survive that many blows without Sol.

Brady does the same for Nah, but that's more to prevent her from killing everyone.

First real sign of trouble. Reinforcements spawn from the entrance and 2 sets of duo Dark Fliers on both sides of the southern part of the map.

Owain gets the attention of the northeast enemies, raining lightning upon the first Grimleal that attacks him (Level 11: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd/Lck). He takes down the Swordmaster and Sage as well.

Henry weakens a couple Dark Fliers, while his son continues to wreck damage on his side of the mountain (level 12: +1 HP/Str/Mag/Spd).

Robin continues to Rally Spectrum the main Shepherd team as Gerome and Yarne protect Maribelle from death.

Normally I wouldn't care about Mire guys but...Robin

Speaking of which, Maribelle heals Robin from that previous Mire hit and gets to level 4 (+1 HP/Skill/Spd). Owain finishes off a Dark Flier to end the turn.

This is actually still pretty mild for reinforcements.

Basilio switched back to Hand Axe to deal with the southern General group.

Nah kills all but the Swordmaster, gaining 2 levels off the encounters. (+2 Str, +1 Mag/Def/Res). Basilio weakens a lot of enemies before turn 8 starts for us.

Robin flies over the terrain, then lets Chrom take the lead to take out yet another Mire Sorcerer. Maribelle heals Basilio with Physic before Noire gallops down and eliminates a Dark Flier (Level 16: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd/Lck/Def).

Yarne and Nah keeps the kill count going.

Gerome being one of the faster units was not expected considering his first few levels.

Owain will move a bit ahead to camp in the forest, while the main Shepherd army will awkwardly stand around for their enemies.

Six more enemies spawn from both sides.

The General deals that much damage despite Henry sitting on a fort with Helswath's defense bonus, but Henry just needs a chance to strike back (Level 15: +HP/Str). He learns Axefaire.

Basilio gets a level off a Dual Strike.

Flavia gets to level 14: +1 HP/Str/Skill/Spd/Lck.

Nah eliminates the Warrior and weakens the Swordmaster (level 15: +1 Str/Def/Res). Gerome counterkills the Sorcerer with help from his mom (level 12: +1 HP/Str/Lck).

Turns out Owain isn't so great at soloing everything without his dad's Dual Strike to give killing power.

Chrom starts off turn 9 by eliminating one of the Dark Fliers to reduce clutter for the main team. Maribelle then Rescues Owain to get him out of danger.

Owain uses his renewed safety by destroying the first foe he sees with his dad. Brady Rescues Chrom out of danger as well (+1 HP/Mag/Skill/Lck/Def).

A rare Cherche kill, which is a lot harder to do when I have to constantly prevent other enemies to attack her since she's so slow.

Tharja sitting on that fort is going to be a key defensive piece for the next reinforcement. That level does not remotely help, though for that plan....

Why yes, 8 fliers spawned almost nearby the middle of the map. Have you killed Aversa yet? No? This is your "reward."

In a rare twist, the Griffin Riders are far more threatening to Tharja than the Dark Fliers.

As you can see, Tharja's terrible luck and relatively low speed is still good enough to dodge the Dark Fliers' tomes thanks to Tomebreaker. With Rexcalibur and Noire's bows for Dual Strikes, she can take on an army of tome casters without a scratch (level 3: +1 HP/Lck/Def )

I mentioned this had by far the most reinforcements? There's still about 2 more waves coming after this (Level 12: +1 HP/Str/Spd/Def).

It's a good thing Recover Staves don't care about magic totals. Maribelle learns Rally Resistance.

Tharja kills the only enemy for turn 10 as 6 more enemies spawn near Aversa.

Much better.

Ugh, it's turn 11 and there's no end in sight of these mooks (Cherche level 13: +1 HP/Str/Spd/Lck/Def).

Owain and Henry stand as the frontline for the entrance to the left side of the mountain as Maribelle Rescues Yarne from the Griffin Rider.

Owain takes down the General, but only weakens the Sorcerer because Henry didn't Dual Strike for some reason.

Robin: Still not a tank. On the upside, she took out 3 enemies despite all of them having the chance to kill her.

Flavia gets cracking for the final couple of turns with some long-range smashing. Nah is getting fed up with all these spawns and takes killing into her own jaws.

Always encouraging to see 0% hit this late in the game.

What the hell?! Who spends a turn not spawning reinforcements, then spawn the next turn?!

Nah kills off a bunch of enemies and gains 2 levels, but just gets 2 res considering she's capped everything except magic and resistance.

Die die die die die (Robin level 8: +1 HP/Mag/Skill/Spd/Res)

Tharja sits on a fort while Brady heals Flavia to attain level 8 (+1 HP/Mag/Skill/Spd/Res).

Cutting it a bit close there.

Maribelle heals Tharja back to full (level 6: +1 HP/Str/Mag/Skill/Spd/Lck/Res). Robin flies over and boosts the party for the final push.

It's an octopus shirt. Lucy told him how much you love them!

After much torment, Owain learns D rank Tomes.

The spirit of Vaike lives on, I see.

Now I don't know if this is a bug, but most bosses with combat animations still force an animated battle. Aversa doesn't for some reason here on my practice run.

Yeah, I think Lucy has a bit more to complain than you ever will.

She says this as she lands with her spine collapsing upon her head (Yarne level 13: +1 HP/Skill/Lck/Def). She drops Goetia to add to our Dark Tome collection.

How in the hell...

*Grima roars in the distance*

The dragon's call!

We can defeat him!

Milord, how does a man challenge a mountain?! Where would one even strike?!

The fell dragon has a weakness on the nape of his neck. But that weakness will be guarded by his servants.

I can send you onto the dragon's back, but the rest is in your hands.

Then please, milady, and quickly! We would ask no more of you.
