Part 63: Paralogue 2: The Secret Seller - Battle

Paralogue 2 Battle

That's the voted party. Frederick is coming along because I need his movement bonus, and more importantly his B-level support with Chrom to get extra stats and a higher chance of Dual Attack.

Maribelle will take Lissa's wares since she's the only healer for this mission. Fred hasn't fought for a while, but he's still a pretty good unit for the enemies here. He's not going to do much beyond chipping for Chrom, so he just gets a Bronze Sword. The rest keep their standard equipment.

The map starts off the group in a heavily forested land, so be sure to put all the horse units on the edge so their movements aren't hampered right off the gate. This map requires speed in the distance sense, and our plan is to blitzkrieg to the top middle of the map.

This honestly isn't a difficult map if you don't care about saving this village and keeping the ally NPC alive, but what is an LP if we do it the easy way?

Anna is a promoted unit like Frederick, representing a new class-type in Fire Emblem called the Trickster. Tricksters are promoted from Thieves and are sword fighters that can also use staves. More of a utility class than actual combat, although Anna is going to be relied upon killing some barbarians for this mission.

Anna's two abilities are Locktouch (opens any door/gate/chest for free) and Movement +1.

Victor is the boss for this mission, though he won't move (along with his bottom screen cronies) until the top half of the enemies are mostly defeated. His ability is Gamble, which reduces Hit by 5 but increases his Crit by 10.

The Goddess Icon permanently increases Luck by 2 when consumed.

Yes, Victor?

I daresay we've come across a village, Vincent.

And what a triving little hamlet it is, Victor!

Indeed. I think it'll make for a fine bit of pillaging, Vincent.

It most certainly will, Victor.

Well, then. I believe it's my turn to do the honors, isn't it, Vincent?

I do believe it is, Victor! Oh, but try not to kill them all this time, hmm? It tends to cut into profits.

Well, aren't you a fetching young thing? And fetching young things fetch good coin.

In fact, the gold you net from the slavers will build Vincent a fine home!

Careful, love. Us traders are known to make some very deep cuts.

One of us must ride ahead and warn them of what's coming.

Villages give out free items once visited, then they close off. If a Barbarian gets there, it pillages the village and robs you of an item. Plus you just let a whole village die, shame on you.

First move is for Chrom to ride with Frederick, then gallop to the first of two Barbarians blocking our way to the village.

Not much, compared to the Plegia troops.

Lon'qu pairs with Sully to gain her solid support boosts, while she benefits the ability to double. Ricken will support Robin to augment her medicore Mag.

Robin hangs out in the woods to benefit from defensive bonuses as she prepares to bait the enemies at the top. Vaike rides with Sumia and hangs out below the enemy range. She'll be serving an important 2nd blitz unit with Chrom to save the village.

Lon'qu goes in front and hangs out in the woods to bait out the 2nd Barbarian on the bridge path. Donny and Maribelle take shelter behind the danger zone.

Anna gets attacked by the nearby Archer, which are usually her bane since they have decent accuracy to hit her.

Usually.

The first part of the plan works, as Lon'qu dodges (hooray for miracles) and Crits for a one-shot.

These are the worst avengers for their friend's death.

Robin eats an axe to the face, but counters back with a strong Thunder along with Ricken's help.

Basically most of the map moves toward the village except for the mentioned bottom mooks along with Victor.

This lone Mage with Elfire (5 Mt, D rank Tome) is the outlier and will attack your troops as his priority.

Anna gets first of many kills on this map. By Intelligent System's mercy, Anna will prioritize killing all the nearby Barbarians that try to get into the village. The bad news is that the multiple Archers nearby act as a "clock" before she bites the dust (There is no consequence if she dies here).

Ricken weakens the top left Archer, keeping safe from being hit by the second one.

Sumia finishes him off, as she advances to the village while avoiding the second Archer.

Lon'qu charges ahead to free up the bridge. However his luck returned to normal and got blasted down to 8 HP in the process of his victory.

I'll take strength from him any day.

Chrom moves as far north as he can, then switches to Frederick since he has 7 move.

Maribelle Rescues Lon'qu away from the remaining Archer's range, and Donny moves next to her to end the turn. Now I know this formation looks crazy, but every enemy except for the Mages and Archers have their priority on the village. They will straight up ignore even a weak Troubadour out in the open unless they are blocked.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

Anna in the woods is usually an instant kill on Barbarians without taking any damage in return.

Usually.

Maribelle heals off Lon'qu and then he bows out for Sully to take out the Mage with a Javelin.

Sumia moves forward, continuing to evade the Archer. Chrom does the same while chugging a Vulnerary from the convoy.

Robin finishes off the remaining northwest Archer with a helping hand from Ricken.

Ricken, I think you fixed her.

Now it may seem like I'm getting lucky with the RNG, but the axe hitting her does about as much damage as two arrow shots. We're right on schedule for how long she usually lasts.

More importantly, Chrom baits out the other Archer to try and hit his massive defenses. The dodge is just overkill.

Anna kills another potential intruder to the village.

Chrom kills the last threat to Anna and gains a great level for his troubles.

Event Tile improves their support.

Maribelle heals off Sully and gains a good level, too. Though I'm not sure why she's threatening us...?

Sumia flies over just outside the last Archer's range, then switches to Vaike since his massive HP can handle two Barbarian attacks.

Goddamn Lon'qu, how much worse would you be if you didn't have Avoid+10?

Okay, I forgot that when I meant village: priority, I mean village: priority. Should've kept Sumia as the lead, then. Oh well, Anna kills off more Barbarians.

Donny takes on the Archer and gets the kill with Lon'qu's support.

Lon'qu hides within range in the trees, then Maribelle gallops all the way to heal him off. Robin moves closer to the team.

Chrom takes out the furthest Barbarian to clear the way.

That kind of warmth is more than welcome in these cold lands. Here. Please use this to heal her if she's hurt.

Physic is a C rank Staff that heals at a distance (Mag/2). Very useful to keep your team healthy without putting your healer at risk of direct combat.

With the village secured, the bottom enemies including Victor start to move on our location. Vaike trades blows with the last northen Barbarian.

Alright, this is where I start getting annoyed by the kill steals.

We can chat with Anna, though this has no effect gameplay-wise.

Well, I guess it was silly of me to be worried, eh?

Yes, but it's sweet all the same, handsome.

You seem to have things well in hand, but I hope you won't mind a little company? Just until we sort these rogues out.

Aw, you ARE worried! That's adorable! I welcome the assistance.

Donny and Sully step into the 2nd Event Tile to raise their support.

Anna heals herself with a Concoction, while Maribelle runs around continuing to heal the team.

Chrom blocks out the solo Barbarian on the right side. Donny transfers back Sully to Lon'qu as he waits for the incoming last wave.

That's just insulting.

Kill him for that pun.

So we're in a bit of trouble. Victor can't hit for shit, but his mooks can and overwhelm a unit. Lon'qu can't really beat Victor even with a crit and I'm not going to cross my fingers for a crit AND a Dual Attack.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

Donny pairs up with Maribelle and they both run the hell away. Robin camps on the outskirts of the enemy range, making sure only Victor can target her. The others wait on the edge of the danger zone.

Where was that last turn, dude.

You're just mocking me at this point, aren't you?

Yes you are.

Chrom moves in to try and take some heat off Lon'qu. The man in question moves a bit north and borrows a Vulnerary from Sully.

Formation ready for the next turn.

The Archer aims for Robin, which is troublesome if Victor follows up with his own attack.

Nope, still went for Lonny.

Damn you, Anna!

Alright, at this point I'm just going to have Chrom weaken Victor so someone can gain a level already. Chrom's too strong to use Falchion, he'll borrow the Bronze Sword to do the job. Also prevents a Dual Attack since Fred has over 50% chance of producing one if he was equipped.

Squeeze in one more level for Maribelle.

Go forth, Sumia! Rise for potential future mission!

I'm certain the townsfolk will be happier for the fresh good as well.

It seems you've done a kindness to my fellow merchants. The name's Anna. Some folks like to call me the Secret Seller. Next time we meet, I'll be sure to cut you an extra-special deal.

...Secret Seller? That sounds...familiar.

I'd tell you more, but then it wouldn't be much of a secret, now would it? Until next time, happy shopping, and may the gods of the open road keep you!
