Part 67: Paralogue 4: Anna the Merchant - Battle

Paralogue 4 Battle

Sully and Vaike rejoin the battlefield after a hiatus. One good thing about having only 1 Axe user is that character gets to hoard everything.

Let's begin.

We have business, you and I, and I aim to settle the debt.

Victor will be avenged today!

Oh, dear. Have we met?

Playing dumb won't save you, girly. The gold you net from the slavers will build Victor the finest grave in the land!

Careful, love. Prices aren't the only thing I can cut in half.

Lon'qu pairs with Donny to give him the necessary speed to double the blocking Myrmidon.

Robin hitches a ride with Cordelia as they fly over near Anna to help. Robin doubles a Mage, one of the few threats to Anna.

Gregor joins with Tharja to give her enough speed to double Mages. Kellam gets carried by Vaike for mobility purposes.

Gaius and Sully join together and hang out in the sweet spot where only the Barbarian can attack them.

Vaike and Tharja move along the doors to safety, with the latter equipping Nosferatu for tanking purposes.

Lissa Wards Tharja, and Chrom finishes out the turn by walking north.

The Barbarians will almost never hit Anna since she's in a Forest, letting her fend for herself if you don't have/want to use a Rescue Staff.

The only enemies that can reliably harm her are the Myrmidon and Archers. The Mage would also harm her, but Robin already took care of that.

The baited Barbarian meets a swift end from Gaius, boosted by Sully's Support Bonus.

The middle pack of enemies attack Donny, with the two melee characters meeting their demise.

Donny might cap his stats by level 10. He might actually need to slow down a bit.

Ehhhhh...magic, at least.

Enemies move around, Chrom dodges a Mage attack, and that dumb Thief starts moving towards the chest.

Anna takes out an Archer with what I assume Tricksters use an upper-cut slash. Interesting thing to note is that Panne as a Thief class holds her sword forward unlike everyone else. I'm assuming it's because she's not familiar with human weapons.

Sully takes out the Mage with Gaiu's help, gaining all the good stats and a little luck, too. She also gains B rank Lances, giving her access to the shiny Silver Lance.

Tharja KOs the other bottom Mage with a Gregor Dual Attack. This is actually annoying because Vaike needs all the easy kills he can get.

Lissa heals Donny, then Chrom one-rounds the nearest Mage.

Cordelia kills off the Archer and positions herself ready to intercept that moving Thief. She's actually safe there since the Barbarians will prioritize killing Anna over anything else.

Chrom counterkills the Barbarian, while Anna takes care of the other two. She even leaves a Barbarian alive, ripe for someone to steal.

Well, that was the plan, but you seem to be holding up just fine. Can you still fight?

I could stand to open a few more rogues, sure. Or locks, for that matter.

A thief, is it?

Locksmith, thank you very much! But yes. Door or chest, I'll have it smiling wide in a trice. And it looks like these bandits have quite the hoard built up.

...Huh. Well then, I think we're in business.

Anna's a Trickster, a utility class for opening doors, chests, and healing otherwise. She has pretty high magic, incredible speed, and very good all-around stats for offense. She also comes with Move+1, giving her as much movement as a Great Knight without as much terrain penalties.

The downsides are the really low defense in case she's ever hit and her supports are extremely limited.

Chrom pairs with Anna afterwards and Robin moves ahead to kill the wandering Thief.

Lissa heals Anna back to full. Anna then trades for the Rescue Staff and uses it to bring team Robin back to safety.

Project Vaike begins. The rest of the team moves ahead for the slow wipe-out. Once you take care of that Thief or don't care about a lost treasure, the map can be finished at your own pace.

Anna shows off her lockpicking skills, but everyone else is too far away to do anything with that Mage.

Vaike gets dealt a hefty amount of damage despite receiving a Ward from Lissa prior to the enemy phase.

Donny gets attacked by a Mage and Barbarian. Oddly he dodges the 57% Elwind but gets hit by the 22% Steel Axe.

Donny is not amused.

Gain some speed, dude. Not luck.

Lissa heals Vaike and gains...something. Welp, she officially has more total strength than her brother. Great.

She also learns Rally Luck, a command ability that increases all allies' luck by 8 within a 3-tile radius. It's okay, but Lissa would rather heal or Ward or do something to gain EXP instead of wasting a turn doing that.

Anna opens a chest to find a Bullion (L), which sells for a massive 10,000 gold. This is good since we're running really low on funds and need to buy some Steel Weapons next chapter.

Cordelia kills the Mage and gains a good level (any level with strength is a good level).

Sully switches to Ephraim's Lance to double the Mage, but Gaius steps in to save a use.

Vaike and Sully tag-team to try and bring down the Archer to no avail.

Donny is by far has the highest strength in the team, but that's not too impressive when tied for 2nd place are Kellam and...Libra.

Gaius pilfers a Killing Edge. Donny baits out the rest of the enemies from the northeast.

Not sure what pun is that supposed to be...

Just you and me!

V for Vaike-tory...? Ugh, whatever. Let's just kill everyone.

So...in an unlucky event, Anna Dual Attacked twice, killing Vincent and stealing that sweet Boss EXP.

*spits drink* Okay. At least we got a Talisman (raises resistance by 2 permanently).

Tharja gains EXP from the Event Tile. And possibly an appointment with a doctor.

So in a brainfart, I forgot to remove Chrom's sword so he just stole kills three Barbarians in a row.

Vaike scavenges what's left and gains C rank Axes.

Gaius finishes off the other Mage and gains a terrible level. What do you need defense for?! (Gains Movement+1).

Vaike gets attacked by the Myrmidon, but chips in to gain a level. Seriously dude, gain some damn speed.

Sully finishes off the enemy, and Anna pilfers a Mend Staff.

Next turn, Anna takes an Arm Scroll. This item will be taken by the Thief we killed earlier every time.

Arm Scrolls increase the current weapon levels of any character, so a Great Knight with D across the weapons will now become C. Downside is that it resets the WEXP so don't use a scroll on a weapon rank only 3-4 swings away from increasing.

Sully baits out the last enemy, then swings in on her turn.

Sully is turning out very nicely. A lot more strength than anticipated. She also learns Outdoor Fighter.

Better.

Gaius gains EXP and my confusion.

Gregor gets the honor of finishing the map.

Project Vaike failed.

The name's Anna. Some folks like to call me the Secret Seller.

Yes, I remember you.

Oh? ...Mmm, I'm afraid I'm drawing a blank.

Huh? Oh, then I must be...I'm sorry, I thought you...

Wait, what am I saying? I KNOW we helped you. I'm sure of it!

Oh! Hee hee! You must have met one of my sisters.

Sisters? Gods, you look identical.

Yes, there's a strong family resemblance. Oh, and we're all traveling merchants.

...With the same name?

Yes, actually. That's part of the secret!

Your family gatherings must be chaotic.

True, but aren't everyone's?

Still, I can't just send you on your way after helping TWO of us. So let me come along and aid you in return.

I can be quite useful. You'll never make a loss with me in tow-I guarantee it!

If Paralogue 2 wasn't completed

Thanks for your help. The name's Anna. Some folks like to call me the Secret Seller.

The roads are dangerous these days, Anna. Be careful on your travels.

Well, it's far less dangerous having people like you around. What do you think? Fancy taking me with you?

You're probably safer on your own. We're marching into a war...

Well, at least I won't be bored! Besides, I can be very useful. You'll never make a loss with me in tow—I guarantee it!

If Anna was defeated

The bandits have been dispatched, milord. It appears the peddler woman was injured and fled.

As would any sane person. Perhaps our paths will cross again. For now, we'd best return to our own task.

Anna is one of the few characters in the game that have extremely limited support options. Not including her daughter, One is Robin, and the other is a character not recruited until over half the game is done.

Anna will most likely have the highest magic for any current potential Tricksters on the team. Along with her high stats, she functions as another durable healer that the game throws at you. Use her if you need space for combat units but lots of doors and chests are on the map.

Official Bio: An enigmatic merchant with a bevy of identical sisters-more than she can count. Like most merchants, she is a smooth-talker who loves both gold and rich customers. The one with the fattest nest egg.
