Mission #39: Trapped in a Closet

And now, before Kazuki and pals start blowing up Tianlei, it's time for the most oddly placed emails of the game, since the party is evidently getting these emails during what is effectively one, long battle spread out over four missions.

Tianlei, finally!
I'm sure you'll
succeed. Good luck.
I hope you'll find
your sister soon.
I pray for your
safety with Ran Fong.

Well, seeing as the game still have over thirty missions left, I wouldn't count on it.

Hello

Hello, Emma. This is
Kwang's sister, Lixian.
I decided to write you to
see how Kwang is doing,
How is everyone?
Is Kwang working hard?

Please tell him not to
worry about me.
And please don't tell
him that I wrote you.
I didn't want him to worry.

Hello

Hello, Lixian.
Your brother is doing a
great job. He's essential
to the rebels.
He doesn't fight in
battles, so don't worry
about that, though I
can't deny that there
are risks involved.

Seeing as he's the figurehead of a rebel group, and he was brought along for the assault on Tianlei, I can honestly say that unless we force him to drive a carload of nitroglycerin over treacherous mountain passes, a la Wages of Fear, we could not be putting him in more danger.

Japan

Emma, are you reading this?
I guess the MIDAS retrieval
in Japan failed. Too bad.
The military is becoming
more strict about security.
They haven't shut us down,
but it's only a matter of time.

The USN radiation research
web site password was changed
without notice, too.
It's now "SURSLN"
I hope you're safe.

: Thanks, Ken...
: Who is this Ken?
Come on, Kazuki, you don't want to end up like jng2058, all clingy and such.
: Do you want to know?
: Never mind...
: He was my colleague. We developed MIDAS together.

Not good

I'm no good at
cooking, Uncle.
I'm not like my mother.
Kwang told me that
everyone makes mistakes,
but...
it tasted so bad!!
I'll be washing the
dishes for a while.

Why must everything Jose ruin everything he touches? Anyway, one last email for the Methane Man, himself.

Wonderful

It's been 3 days since you
left Sulawesi to tell the
world about our methane wanzer.
As your father... I mean, as the
president of the Barilar Corp.,
I believe in you.

The Luis family from the
Philippines started a web site.
It's LUISCC/CORPORATION/PHILIPPINES.

The future of Methane
Wanzer depends on you!

The future is lost. LOST!

Into Tianlei...

: Kazuki, do you read?
: Yeah, loud and clear.
: Looks like we got in fine.

: Yeah. But it looks like they're not going to make it easy for us.
: We're still going to it, right?
: We've gone this far! We can't go back now!

Fight time! Kazuki, Emma, Ryogo and Linny are your four, as they will be for the next couple of missions as well, since the party split before last mission. The enemy is four rifle Shangdi 1s. That's right, we have equal numbers, and every enemy has a rifle. Now, granted, the Shangdi arms make rifles pretty accurate, but still, a rifle is a rifle is a rifle.

Wrong arm, Emma, wrong arm.

Ryogo shows off the second most devastating skill he'll use in this battle.

Close, still, I know just who to send to clean this up...

And Linny barely pulls it off, even with a maximum burst. There was a question on how accurate flamethrower arms need to be, and here's where I come down on it: you'll probably something in the Jinyo/Kyojun class, unless you're using something like the Yongsai 3 arms, where the inherent skill is good enough to offset the lower accuracy. That said, a Rekson/PAW1/Shangdi arm would probably be a bit too fragile for a wanzer that is apt to take a lot of shots due to the short range of the flamethrower. Of course, like everything else I say about wanzer construction, you're free to disregard my advice.

I should also mention that this map is even more slanted in your favor, since it's a very small and level field, so the enemy can't exploit its range advantage.

Then again, when Kazuki combos...

...every advantage in the world wouldn't be enough.

For whatever reason, a lot of people went down the Firing Squad road with this generation of wanzers. Normally, it doesn't work that well, but, on a map where everyone has a ranged weapon, and they're all clustered together, well...

Kazuki fires...

As does Emma...

And Ryogo finishes him off.

Emma kills the last Shangdi.

Too much grinding for cash to build new wanzers has started to adversely affect my medal scores. Damn. Kazuki wins MVP.

: There should be a service elevator somewhere.
: Is this it? I think I found it, Zhun.
: Use that to go down.
: All right. Okay, let's go everyone.

Next Time: Ever Downward!
