Mission #8: For Whom the Toll Bells

Yep, we're still on the highway, because our party doesn't know the meaning of the word 'covert'...they keep getting it mixed up 'convert' and so keep getting confused as to why changing their religion would help them avoid military patrols.

Ah, a toll booth. I've always heard you could get by a toll with Necco Wafers, which the machines read as quarters. Then again, I never tried it myself.
: There's a blockade...
: Well they're not stupid. That's for sure.
: What do we do, Emma? Do we take a detour and avoid combat?

: Stealing a civilian truck? I don't know about this...
Man, the other branch's Kazuki would have happily crippled the truck's driver in the process of stealing the damn thing.
: We're not really stealing Just borrowing. It's an emergency. I think they'll understand.
Dear Truck Driver,

We took your truck. We apologize for this convenience but it was an emergency. You see, we are currently wanted by the Japanese government due to our witnessing the effects of a new, secret bomb they had stolen from the USN. We know this because this blond scientist, who looks suspiciously like my adopted sister, told us so, and she probably wouldn't lie to us. Also, while it would be morally wrong for me to have sex with my adopted sister, I'm reasonably sure that it would be okay to get involved with said sister's kin. However, I am willing to be convinced otherwise, and so have included my email address so that you may weigh in on this issue. Thanks for the truck.

Your pal,
The 14th Senor Goodtimes,
Kazuki Takemura

: I agree with Ryogo. We should worry more about escaping with our lives.
: All right, we'll destroy the barricade and break through.

Well, here we go again. An APC, a couple of Jinyos and a couple of Enyos. I can't say I'm overly concerned with any of them.

Okay, I may be a bit concerned about the Enyos.

Ryogo and Emma team up to cripple a Jinyo is response.

A nice view of the map. I include it if only to note that one enemy is trapped behind the toll barriers, which are actual physical barriers preventing him from moving. That will be important later.

Damn it, okay, I can deal with that...

This, on the other hand, is going a bit far...

Kazuki makes the enemy pay for my inconvenience...in blood.

5 HP! He only has 5 HP left in his body? I'm just not having a good day. Well, maybe this will all blow over.

You know what's worse than an enemy with 5 HP left? How about one with 1 HP left. That's right, I've somehow managed to reduce two separate wanzers to single-digit health without killing them.

It's time to clean house. This Enyo is the first to feel my wrath. He will no longer threaten some sort of heroic comeback against my wanzers.

And that's the other one. Okay, all that's left is to kill the wanzer on the far side of the toll booths. Emma, begin the barrage!

Yeah, that should do. The enemy no longer has a ranged weapon. Now, a good AI would use his bare fist to break through the toll barrier and so get at my troops, but, well, that's asking too much of the Front Mission 3 AI, so he'll just stand there and get whittled down into oblivion.

Though, to be fair, even if the Jinyo made it through the toll barrier, it wouldn't stand much chance against my fully armed wanzers anyway.

Ryogo finishes off the battle.

Not a great result, although a large part of that was due to cosmic misfortune, which I blame on thetruegentleman.

: Hmm, guess the driver ran away.
: Perfect. Let's get to Yokohama before they find us.
: But if we keep running like this, they're likely to catch up.
: You're right. But once we're in the city, we can lose them...
: If that's the case, I've got a good place. I know someone who has a repair shop in the city. We can hide from the JDF until things cool down.
: Yeah, Emma, you must be tired from all that combat. We need to rest.
: Don't mind me. We just need to hurry.
: Well then, ladies and gentlemen, we're off.
