Part 57: Luc Village 2

Welcome back!

Oh, good, I was worried that things would be going our way.

: The platoon trailing the humanoid child has also reported that the forest's mist is clearing.

: All according to plan, Colonel.

And the obligatory "awkwardly phrase sentences in order to avoid mentioning the important thing directly" that all JRPG villains have to do.

: Prepare to effect personnel drop!

: Yes sir! With permission, sir!

: Lieutenant Leen. You will be in command.

: Yes Colonel. We shall obtain the last piece without fail, sir!

: Yes sir!

Ahh, so that's Leen's important part in the military plans. A thing-dar.

I knew it! The legendary Garlyle Drop-Trains! We're doomed!

: Uh-oh. It also seems that the sound is getting louder! What the heck is it?!

: I saw it from the window! It's some huge black thing that's floating across the sky! I saw soldiers like the ones who took me away. Lots of them came out of that thing and ran to the mountains!

: The Garlyle Forces!

Oh no. Not the guys we've spent the past few hours thoroughly embarrassing.

: But how did they find out where Luc Village is?

: I was wondering that myself. Anyway, let's go have a look!

: If that icon gets stolen... then... then I don't know what we'll do. Chief, it's times like these we need your wisdom most!

: First, everyone just calm down. Now... we have no choice but to fight to protect our icon. However, we have been living all by ourselves here in Luc village. We've never fought any battles before.

"Crap, do I let everyone die, or..."

: Chief! Let us handle this! If they're Garlyle soldiers, we know can drive them off!

: Wuh... wait just a minute! Justin!

: Justin, are you OK? Why did you have to volunteer us?!

That's one thing I like about Justin. Yeah, he's usually an idiot and the butt of the jokes, but he knows when it's time to serious up and play hero.

: Besides, aren't we Rem's friends? Rem's home village is facing a crisis, right?! So of course we must do what we can!

: Friends....

: You're right! We ARE Rem's friends!

: Oh! What brave youngsters you are! You'll fight to save this village? We must ask you to do what you can to protect our sacred icon. Our God of Light statue!

: Just leave it to us! OK, gang, let's get moving!

Welp, back to the God of Light mountain, I guess.

We ran into these guys on the train, but they didn't get a chance to do any of their moves. Going balls to the wall with spells will do that.

Wave Cut is a ranged attack that deals more damage than their normal attacks. Despite the animation, it is single target

They also, like the other soldiers, can use Heavy Blow.

At certain points, a group of soldiers will jump out at us, say something, get beaten down, and say something else.

Truly we are in an era of riveting gameplay.

Huh. Guess these guys were at Sult? That last sentence prints out with a pause halfway through. Looks like some of the grunts aren't too happy about having to fight a bunch of kids.

Said bunch of kids has no qualms about fighting back, though. Sue gains her tenth Bow level here, learning "Fire Away". Much like how Justin's Shockwave is more or less the same thing as Sue's Round Whacker, Fire Away here is basically Feena's Random Hurl. She spins and shoots arrows all over the place, hitting all enemies.

They also have no troops on the mountain itself, so once you start climbing, there's nothing to stop you until you get to the summit.

(Not quite siren-worthy, but you should still listen to this anyway)

: Waaaaiiiittt! Give that statue back!

: Justin!? What are you doing here?!

: On, you're the one who hit me, back at the base!

: Justin! Why did you come here...?

Dun dun dun?

: Sis?! Leen, is that really you?!

: Feena...!

: Feena, you called her "Sis".... Is this your sister, Feena?

: Leen! It is you! Why are you doing such a thing?

: Feena... I'd wanted you to be the last person to know about this....

: The fact is, I'm a Garlyle soldier! Lt. Leen of the Mullen Division!

... But Feena already knew that? I mean, maybe not the rank and assignment, but she definitely knew Leen was a soldier.

: At this time, the statue is being confiscated for a military operation. So you must stand down!

: Leen, wait! Why are you doing this?!

: Oh no! The God of Light! I won't let you do it!

When Justin decides he's not taking any shit, he is not taking any shit. Even from the goddamn laws of physics.

: Why didn't you take Feena and run away? After all the risk I took in letting you escape from the front-line base.

: Stop complaining and give back this statue!

: Sorry, I can't do that! I've got to take this statue back. the honor of the Mullen Division is at stake!

: S... Spirit Stone!?

: Don't make me force you off. I can't let you foul up our plans any more!

: Wa... wait! Why do you call it a Spirit Stone?

There is a green flash.

And then, without warning, the statue fucking explodes.

And with that, I think we have a good place to stop this update.

Hold up, hold up. Apparently Leen can detect the presence of Spirit Stones, according to Mullen. So why would she not notice Justin's?

... I mean, aside from it having been in the Stashing Place since I picked it up.

: Mace +1, Wind +1

: Bow +1, Water +1

: Whip +1, Water +1
