Part 61: Luc Village NPC Chatter 3

Welcome back! We're more than halfway done with Luc Village.

: Maybe they have brought this catastrophe upon us! That's why we must sacrifice them.

: Hey, what was that?! You think we're gonna let you make sacrifices out of us!

At least the Elder's a bro.

: We'll do our best-- of course! After all, you're our friends!

: Oh... now we have hope! OK, everyone! Never forget what you've heard here! We will run out of options if it turns out that even your abilities are not enough. If that happens, then we too are.... Anyway, we have no choice but to leave all of this in your hands.

: Hey, it'll be OK! The Garlyle Forces don't scare us! Why don't you fight with us?!

: No, I'd prefer to supervise, thanks. So I'll just watch. I won't say anything. I'll just watch....

Next up, his identical twin to his left.

: What'll we do, Chief?! What's a huge bird like that doing in our forest?! If it came from the outside world, you can bet it is not bringing us anything good!

: Hmm... I thought the mist looked strange. After being isolated for so long, we don't have anyone in Luc who can handle this kind of crisis situation.

: Don't worry, Elder! This is where we adventurers come in!

: I hope your attack is successful....

: You're going to the God of Light shrine? Will you be OK, just the three of you? I'm worried.

: Just leave it to us! We'll think of something. You'll see!

: Please be careful! May the God of Light again give you strength, as when you rescued Rem!

: Just leave it to us! We'll chase those soldiers away!

: Oh, would you do that for us? Please! Protect our God of Light!

: And now the message has arrived. Our village is doomed!

: Hey, don't give up so quickly! Wait till you see what we do!

: Waaaah! I'm scared! I've always done what my mama and papa said! Is this my punishment 'cuz I said I wouldn't obey them?! Waaaah! I'm scared!

: Wait, hold on, old man! That's not the God of Light!

: I'm worried about the God of Light up on the mountain. Let's hurry, Justin!

: Listen, you must evacuate the village if things get dangerous here.

: There's no need to worry. We have the God of Light's protection.

: If this tail could turn to wings again, then I'd be able to fly. I'd fly right into battle, to protect the God of Light! Can't we fight on our own? The God of Light has protected us so far. Now it's time for us to protect it.

: Hmm... I've never seen such a large bird before! If I could bring that big one down, I wouldn't have to go hunting again for quite a while!

: Hey, I said to stop that! Listen, you've got to let us handle this thing!

: Since the mist is what protects the forest, our God of Light is helpless. Something horrible's gonna happen unless we go help, and quickly! Once the God of Light is gone, our village will be next. It'll be the end of us unless we go help quickly!

: In the past, whenever our village has faced crises, we prayed to the God of Light and received his help. Now, it is the God of Light who is facing a crisis. What can we do about that? No matter what happens, please let my baby survive. This baby is my life's treasure.

: Perhaps the Misty Forest...? What is it? Why the anger...? After all, we haven't done anything. Not anything bad, have we?! Could it be because the Village Chief dyes his white tail?! I understand how the chief feels. The women think white tails are ugly. Oh dear, what'll we do now?!

: As it is, you're the only ones who can help us. Protect the God of Light!

Speaking of, let's skip to after we break the God of Light.

: Rem....

: I wanna be an adventurer when I grow up! Just like you guys! Justin, I promise you I'll become an adventurer. I'll cross the Misty Forest and even the End of the World!

: You bet, Rem! We'll be waiting for you on the other side of the End of the World!

: We've been shut off from wonderful people such as you. This village must become more open to the world. It may take some time. But I think everyone will agree to this eventually.

: We'll do our best to help. We hope you'll achieve this new goal.

: Justin, I want you and your friends to know that you'll always be welcomed by everyone here!

: But we were only able to bring back about half of the statue.

: That's all right. If it weren't for your efforts, not only the God of Light statue but we too would've been hurt. Now that I think about it, we should not always rely upon our God of Light for everything. Seeing how you live, I began to doubt the wisdom of this policy.

: Luc is protected by mist. We mustn't leave until the mist has cleared. At least that's what we thought. Has the mist been protecting us or have we simply been hiding in it? I suspect we're guilty of the latter. Now we must seek a new way. We must find a way to live with the mist without being dependent on it. Thanks to you, brave ones, we have come to realize this.

: We thank you deeply for protecting our God of Light. If it weren't for you, we'd....

: Huh?! But... we....

: You're thinking, "but we broke it". If it weren't for you, the whole statue would've been taken away. We have you to thank for what remains of it. We ourselves must learn more about the outside world. Otherwise, we'll remain helpless and dependent on others.

: We're indebted to you for protecting our God of Light. Thank you so much.

: And we are grateful for the precious mist-clearing nut that you so kindly bestowed upon us.

: No doubt the God of Light is very pleased with you, too. We're all grateful.

: Oh, please. I turn red when I hear so much praise. Ha ha ha ha!

Ahh, Sue, always ready with a teaser image.

: Excuse me, but there's not just three of us. Puffy also did his part. ♥

: Ah ha ha! But if your children only hear about us adventurers, they'll be adventure maniacs like a guy I know!

: Hey, just a minute! You're exaggerating again, Sue.

: Hee hee. Well it's OK with me if they become adventure maniacs. As long as they grow up to be strong like you.

: You folks have a nice aroma. Like the Lyla flowers that bloom after a rain.

: Uh-uh. I don't smell any particular fragrance.

: The Lyla weed has no roots in the ground. It looks like a cotton ball. It gets blown around by the wind. As it's blown around, it picks up flower seeds and carries them. That's why you find lots of different flowers blooming near Lyla weeds. It makes for a lively mix of flowers. Since long ago, there's been a saying that Lyle weeds are like messengers from heaven that deliver happiness.

: For example, why does a threat come here from the outside world hand-in-hand with a joyful event?

Sometimes I forget that this is supposed to be a kids' game.

: You're saying our arrival was a joyful event? Now you're making me blush.

: But, as usual, all I can do is talk to myself. I can't say anything to them, I can only look.

: But look at this. I've been so worried that my tail is turning white. Oh, what'll I do. Women think white tails are so ugly. Maybe a white tail suits me, since I can only hide like a coward.

: Hey, don't think like that! Go ahead and dye it if you like.

: Well, I do care. OK, I'll do it! I'll secretly dye it with Anol nuts. Better to act than to worry! I can tell that when I look at all of you.

: Stop, please. How embarrassing!

: Hey, just a minute. What about the two goddesses of good fortune over here? ♥ Eh, Feena?!

: Hmmm, yeah....

: I hear you protected the God of Light. I thought you were just kids since you haven't grown a tail yet. You're quite a group!

: As you can see, I'm already a full-fledged lady, even though I haven't grown a tail. ♥

: So, in the outside world, do people become adults without growing tails? What a strange world it is.

Y'know, "out west" in Luc Village is basically going to the South Pole and being like "Oh, where're you from? North of here?"

: You have protected Luc Village well. Is there something you'd like to have, or shall I offer a prayer for you?

: Well... sure. Please pray that we will be able to cross the End of the World!

... Yeah, I can see that.

: The land where our ancestors were born lies on the other side of the End of the World. But those who are mortal cannot cross over the wall. They all turn back at some point. Luc's old legends say the wall stands between the lands of life and death.

: Psh, who ever said that we're mortal?

: Oh. Right.
