Part 74: Dight NPC Chatter 4

Welcome back!

: Please bring us the Spear of Heroes from the top of the Typhoon Tower and save our poor village of Dight. Gadwin, I believe in you. If anyone can do this, it is you. Remember-- pull out the Spear of Heroes from the top of the Typhoon Tower. I believe you can do it!

I dunno, dude, last time I pulled out my Spear of Heroes from the Typhoon Tower, it didn't wind up stopping the rain, if you catch my drift.

... That was bad and I should feel bad. Moving on!

: Oh, no! Rain, at last! Now only is the fishing ruined, this village'll be destroyed. That's the end! We're all gonna die!

: You must remain calm! At times like these, a man must be steady and decisive!

: But, Gadwin... look, the poison rain is falling.

: We're the Dragon Fold, a proud people. If kids like you from another land can work to save Dight, then, even though I'm not a hero, there must be something I can do. And I must do whatever I can.

: Right! As one of the Dragon Folk, you can be a hero by facing adversity. Same as facing the Typhoon Tower.

: I can't just stand by and watch. I'm not sure what I can do, but I'm going to do all I can!

: What! Oh no, it's started raining! Dang it! No fishing today!

: Don't worry. Gadwin and I are going to retrieve the Spear of Heroes. Like I said, we're adventurers!

: If you adventurers really do get that spear, I'll treat you to a seafood feast!

: I had thought Gadwin was the only one we could count on at a time like this. Since he has chosen to team up with you, he must believe in your ability. Perhaps you are master swordsmen?

: Naah, when Sue and Feena aren't setting things on fire, I usually hit 'em with an axe.

: Yes, I crossed swords with him myself. Justin will be come an excellent swordsman someday.

: You fought Gadwin? I can't believe you survived unharmed!

: Back in Parm, most people wouldn't be surprised about a middle-aged man, y'know, not murdering a group of children.

: Well then, with the two of you, I've got a feeling Dight can be saved!

: You are very brave, indeed. We're counting on you to find some way to stop this rain. Please do something to stop the red rain at that tower. We're counting on you.

: Don't worry. We shall bring back the Spear of Heroes and save the People of the Dragon.

: "Oh, Spirits... please protect Dight's brave warriors". That's how I've been praying to the Spirits. "Oh, Spirits... bestow your divine protection upon the brave warriors of Dight and the People of the Dragon".

: With Justin by my side, I believe we will succeed.

: Justin can easily get carried away by thing like this....

: Justin, you clearly have Gadwin's trust, which says much about you.

Yep. Because helping people in need isn't in Justin's nature or anything. Nope.

: Huh? What!? What do you...?

: Who, me? I didn't say anything, Justy boy!

: Yes, well somebody must go. I have trained hard, and I am ready.

: Yeah, I understand. But be extra careful. The poisonous rain near the tower might be very bad.

: No, it won't be easy, but somebody has to do it, right? And we're the only ones who will.

: Yes. That is right. We must protect this village. Don't worry, we'll be back soon.

: I'll be the red rain has been falling around that tower. Please be very careful.

: Heh heh heh. Just leave it to us!

: Yes, I know. I must be going to Typhoon Tower.

: Oh, would you, Gadwin? I'm counting on you! Forget us old geezers. Do it for the young folks. We're all counting on you, Gadwin!

: Yes, but I must go. My home village needs me. If something happens to me, I want you to take care of this village.

: Don't say "if something happens to me". It sounds too ominous! Yes, but these are the things that people who are called brave warriors must do. I... I hate to do this, but I must ask you to take on this task, Gadwin.

: Nope, he's going as a corpse.

: Yes, somebody must do it, and I think I can handle it. In fact, I'm looking forward to it.

: Hmm... well, I to am sure you can handle the job. I'd put my life in your hands any day. The Spirits will not desert us. You'll be all right this time, too. We Dragon Folk always have them with us.

Wow, adding that joke in for Justin kinda changes the whole tone of that conversation.

: Thank you for your support. But confronting danger is part of my training. Well, let's go, Justin.

: Oh, God of the Golden Eagle, please guide these warriors from the Other Side, show them the wwaayyy.

And that's all this guy says.

: Don't worry, old man. Justin and I... we'll show you. We'll bring back the Spear of Heroes.

: Huh?! Look, another brave warrior has appeared! Now Dight will be saved for sure!

: Pretty quick, isn't he? But no one knows if this mission will be successful or not.

: We finally have our two brave warriors! Now Dight will be saved for sure! Right, Gadwin?

: Hmm... I guess so.

Thankfully, a few of the houses have nothing new to say, so we can skip them this time.

: If you go with Gadwin, I reckon you'll be all right. But you still better be careful--the Typhoon Tower's not safe.

: Yeah... I got it.

: It won't be easy, but let's hope for the best and give it all we've got.

: Hey, you foreign kids and Gadwin, too. Make sure you come back safe, eh? No heroic sacrifices or anything, OK?

Whoops, missed these guys earlier.

: Is it... poisonous rain? Oh, no! Do you know what that means? It means I'm a goner!

: Don't worry, we're all OK until the rain turns red. Come, Justin. Let's go where the red rain's falling.

: Hmm... I'll stop this rain, even if it costs me my life.

: "If it costs me my life"...? Aren't you exaggerating a bit, Gadwin?

: If you can stop this rain, you'll save our village. We're counting on you, Gadwin!

: I promise to succeed. I'll stop this rain, if it's the last thing I do.

: ... ...

: EEEK! YYYAA! I'm scared! Mama! I'm so scared!

: Don't worry, kid. Gadwin and I are gonna stop this rain for sure!

: Really!? If... if you can really stop the rain, I'll be your bride! ♥

: So, you guys are going to get the Spear of Heroes...? I pray that the protection of the Spirits will be with you always.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, asshole.

: Ha! A kid like you has got no chance of pulling off something like that. So stop with all the baloney already.

: So, do you mean you want me to just shut up and stand by watching while everyone gets sick?!

: Well, no, I guess no.

; Don't worry. Justin here crossed the End of the World without help. He has even crossed swords with me.

: Huh, the End of the World? I heard even Gadwin couldn't scale it. He really did it? Hmm....

The kid has nothing new to say.

: There's nothing to fear. I shall go and stop the rain. I ask you elders to take care of the village.

: Mr. Gadwin... I understand. We'll leave it in your hands, Mr. Gadwin. Mr. Gadwin, be careful. The whole village will be awaiting your safe return.

: Oh no, it has started raining! Even if we let the elders handle the Typhoon Tower, we have to think of something. First, we must find food for everyone. Then we must get everyone inside their houses. Maybe if I pull the beard of the giant. I can't... I can't. I have to consider everyone else. First, find food for everyone, then... then, everyone's, everyone's asleep. ♪ No, wait!

Once again, the kid has nothing new to say.

: To succeed, we'll need the protection of the Spirits. But.... Have faith, my friend!

: I understand. After all, I'm one of the Dragon Folk, too. We won't ever simply give up to defeat. I believe in you. You have my faith. It is all that I can give you.

: Maybe we should leave this to Gadwin. You kids shouldn't go to the tower. There are scary monsters over there!

: Monsters?! Heh heh. That's just what I'd hoped! I still can't believe how gypped we got with the monsters crossing the End of the World!

: You're totally excited by all this, aren't you?

: It's why I keep an eye on you.

: It'd be better if we let Gadwin do it. But if you insist on going, be sure to come back safe and sound!

: Justin won't be killed. Even if I am killed, Justin will survive to save this village.

So close. So close to being a reference.

: I'll see what I can do. Until then, please look after this village for me.

Yyyyyyeah, we'll be doing... pretty much the exact opposite of buying things.

: Yes, but we must go to the Typhoon Tower, if we're to save this village.

Even the blasted "What're ya sellin? Strangah." dialog changes.

And that's that! At least until we come back after the dungeon. See you then!
