Halo 3: ODST (originally Halo 3: Recon) is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft. It was released on the Xbox 360 video game console on September 22, 2009. Players assume the roles of elite human United Nations Space Command soldiers known as "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers" or ODSTs during the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3. In the game's campaign mode, players explore the ruined city of New Mombasa to discover what happened to their missing teammates in the midst of an alien Covenant invasion.
Thanks Wikipedia. So I'm going to be playing through the campaign of Halo 3: ODST. I'm going to state right now that I am a huge Halo fan, so for all the other fans out there, don't worry. We play as "The Rookie" a new addition to this particular squad of ODSTs as we get set for a mission. The game starts during the Covenant invasion of Earth, around the same time as the start of Halo 2.
This game was built up to be something new and exciting, and many people were disappointed. The new weapons were old weapons which sounded different, and the gameplay was the same as before. However, why fix something that isn't broken? This game is still good. The story is a little odd, and really doesn't add to the larger Halo story, but it's an interesting new viewpoint in the Human-Covenant war. We'll look at the issues as they come up in the game.
What the hell is Halo? I'm not going to be talking too much about the history of Halo, or the common themes, environments, characters, etc unless it is directly related to ODST's story. I'm going to assume that you know the basics. For all other Halo information, check out Cooked Auto's LP of Halo 1 found here. His LP of Halo 2 is not up there yet, but I will add it if/when possible. This/These LP(s) do a great job of introducing the Halo universe and even go into the less known backstory.
What difficulty are you playing? I know some people care about this, but I'm playing on Normal. I have beaten every single Halo game on Legendary, but it isn't going to be fun to watch me die a lot or take cover constantly. The story is unchanged.
What about audio files? There are 30 hidden audio files throughout the game which make up 'Sadie's Story.' It is the story of one girl's dramatic evacuation from the city. I am going to be collecting the audio files, but not in the main story. I will do a video before the end where I collect them all and then play them all in one go.
What about Firefight? Firefight is the new multiplayer mode for ODST. 1 to 4 players cooperatively attempt to hold out against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. The best I can say about whether it will be included or not is "we'll see." I haven't given a huge amount of thought to whether to do this or not, but I haven't ruled it out.
