Episode 14: Gust

Hello muchly! This is Gust, welcoming you to Hyperdimension Neptunia. Last time the evil Underling awakened a terrifying robot. Now, on Neptune…

Uh, good job. So, we went hunting for the ingredients Gust needed.

We won’t know…until we defeat them!

Boss Battle: Metal Shell
This boss isn’t terribly strong, it’s just got incredibly tough defenses. Just drag it down, and think about how much easier this fight would have been if you had Gust already.

They weren’t that difficult to find, at least.

We’re short on time. Let’s finish this in a single strike!

Boss Battle: Dr. Kawashina
This guy’s very easy, no real strategy past killing him.

Gust always gives reliable information when important.

I hope we can resuscitate the mascot!
If this fails, we’ve got a serious problem. Who knows how much longer the enemy will wait to attack.

That’s…less reassuring than I think was intended. Anyway, we got the ingredients back to Gust.

Video- “Revival”

Your hard work is appreciated muchly. Let me examine these real quick. Hmm. Yes, these are perfect.
Okay, great. Hurry and repair it!
One moment. To perform alchemy, we must find large room. Any of those here?
Like a big open space? Maybe we can borrow a room in the Basilicom.
I think we can. If it’ll revive the mascot, I’m sure the Oracle will be more than happy to accommodate us.

We headed down to the Basilicom. I was expecting things to go terribly wrong, we’ve been having bad luck lately.

Repair the disc using alchemy? I would never have dreamed it.
She just happened to be passing by and offered to help us. Isn’t that nice?
It’s still an untested method.
Whoa, sweet! It’s alchemy, real alchemy! We read about this in our sister’s book, didn’t we, Rom!?
Yep. Squeeeeee.
To finish, put fragmented disc in… Synthesis complete!
White Disc: Urgh, where am I? What happened to me?
Wow, tickle me impressed! It really worked.
Oh dear, I can hardly believe it. Do you recognize me?
White Disc: Lowee’s Oracle, of course. What’s going on here? I thought I was done for.
Gust repaired you with alchemy.
Piece of pielixir.
White Disc: Is that so? I am in your debt. Though I’ve revived, that means I was destroyed…which means…
Correct. The seal placed on all the dormant Killachines was lifted. We must deal with them before long.
I’ll be filled with remorse if I just utilize you like a convenient tool.
White Disc: Time is of the essence now. No need to worry about me.

Please, this task easy as can be.

Negpear: Yes, what is it?
White Disc: I lack the power to confront and vanquish the enemy. I can’t even reach the source of the seal on my own.
Though it may be much to ask, will you all keep me company until I reach my destination?
Goodness, I don’t mind at all. That’s not a problem.
Gust will also join.
Join us? We’re going somewhere super-duper dangerous, you know.
Yes. Despite humble appearances, I am traveling around the world. Self-defense is a basic discipline.
Plus, even though mascot character revived just fine, it is not yet back to full power.
As its trusted alchemy practitioner, Gust is obligated to perform post-synthesis maintenance.
Why the hell not. The more the merrier, or something.
It’ll be a pleasure to have you, Gust.
Same to you.

I thought Rom might come with us too, but her sister didn’t want to.

Hmm…
Oh, Rom and Ram. Could you both come with us, as well? Your company would really brighten everyone’s day.
Yeah, I wanna.
N-No, of course we won’t, dummy!
Huh?
Uh, well, it’s like…we’re Lowee’s CPU Candidaets, so we gotta stay here and defend our land. Duh!
But…
I understand. We can’t force you.
Yeah, you sure can’t. That’s the deal. Hey, let’s go play army over there.
W-Wait…
Girls will be girls, right?
I apologize. I know this is a Lowee issue, but here I am sending out some tourists and travelers.
Don’t worry. We’ll be right back!

Feinne’s Notes:
Now we have Gust!

Gust is a magic character. She’s a bit fragile, can’t move very far, and is basically useless with physical attacks. That’s okay, though, because her magic stuff is absolutely amazing. She comes with a variety of skills, including a group heal, a revive, and a very powerful magic damage skill. Just make sure you hang her out close enough to enemies to slip in and build up SP when she’s low and then back her out again and you’ll get lots of use out of Gust. Not even Nepgear can do as much damage as she does right now if Musical Words doesn’t have any misses.

Gust is from some country I’ve never heard of, I guess it’s pretty far away?

Why ask so suddenly?
Hehe. You have a slight accent. I’m also curious about alchemy, so could I learn it from your home country?
Oh, I see. My country is called Salburg.
Salburg? That sounds familiar, but not. Where is it located on Gamindustri?
A desolate location, far away from any other country.
Really? Goodness, I suppose there are still many countries I haven’t heard of.
It’s country just for alchemists. We even have alchemy academies, so there are many alchemy students.
Things like alchemy school really exist? I bet you were one of the best students.
Unfortunately, Gust was a straight-D student.
My homeroom teacher was frightening. Always yelling at me.
I’m a bit shocked.
Even though I was always yelled at, I stayed strong and managed to juggle school with running my own atelier.
One day, my work was placed on pedestal among best alchemy items from Salburg.
Amazing. Having the best alchemy item in Salburg must mean you were also the best alchemist there, right?
Not necessarily. Many competing alchemists are coming from Arland.
Arland? Is that a different country?
Yes. Long story if you want explanation. We can discus it some other time.
…There sure is a lot of stuff I don’t know about this world.

Feinne’s Notes:
This scene is super useful, because it both gives us a rank up with Gust and a new product proposal, for Gust’s Panacea. These cure status and heal, and I need to go track down some materials to make it soonish.

Very far away. Also heard rumor about strange sword, maybe valuable?

Young Woman: It’s about this sword that was forged in ancient times to defeat this thing called the Deity of Sin.
There’s a story about Arfoire? Does the sword really exist?
Young Woman: Yeah, I was curious and researched it, but there’s no record of the sword ever being used in battle.
It was never used? So does it exist?
Young Woman: I don’t know. But isn’t that phrasing interesting?
Let’s assume it’s real. Why wasn’t it ever used?
There’s got to be some major reason why it remained unused. Something to make people hesitate.
Th-That does sound interesting. Oh boy.
Did you ever stop to think the story was just a story? That this magical sword never existed?
Young Woman: You’re probably right, but that’s such a drag.

I, I guess it might be.

Indeed. I’ve relied solely on alchemy abilities.
I see. I’ve been fighting on my own until I met all of them. Heh. I’m glad we’re traveling companions.
Likewise.
… * suggestive glance *
Where are you suggestively glancing?
Th-This isn’t supposed to be a glance. I’m feeling a strong telepathic signal.
There’s one thing I need to tell you.
What’s that?
I haven’t had growth spurt yet. There is still possibility Gust will become super curvy.
What? But right now, you’re…
There is big difference between one with possibility and one without.
Wh-What? I thought we were allies. You treacherous turncoat traitor!
As soon as we became friends, she called me a traitor.

Feinne’s Notes:
This gives us the recipe for Hero Drink, which is really useful because it both heals and gives us SP. We also want to make this quickly (though not as urgently as we’d need to in Victory, where Hero Drink is straight broken).

A-Anyway, Next Time on Hyperdimension Neptunia, Mark 2: Seal. Goodness, are we almost done in Lowee?
