Part 21: Episode 21: A Divine Hunger

Episode 21: A Divine Hunger

Greetings, and welcome to this episode of Hyperdimension Neptunia, Mark Two. I have been asked to provide narration for this tale. I believe in the prior episode, there was a concert? Now, on Neptune…

Lyrica, were you not asked to assist as well? I don’t see how you can do that hiding behind me like this.
W-Well, I don’t like cameras much.

Nepgear, where are you currently?
In Leanbox. We got the mascot’s support, so we were thinking of coming back home for a little bit…
I apologize, but there is one other place I would like you to visit before returning to Planeptune.
An island situated off the west coast of Planeptune has been assaulted by ASIC.
I don’t think that island even has a name. Is it important at all?
Why attack a random island?
It is mere speculation, but I feel they may aim to shift their base of operations to our nation.
Should that prove to be the case, we will face the threat of losing our shares once again.
They’re being nasty, as usual.
A local adventuress has been battling the invading forces on her own. Please try to reinforce her.
Yes, ma’am!

Also the lady we were supposed to be helping was really scary.

Isn’t that a town? I mean, there’s a house.
Oh, okay, perfect! Let’s go there.
You again? Didn’t you learn your lesson last time? No matter how many times you ask, I won’t let you pass.
What the goodness!?
Sorry, but I can’t go easy on you and make my point at the same time. Don’t hold it against me if I take your head!
N-No! I-I-I’m so sorry!
H-Hold on just a lovely minute! We were asked here by Histoire…
Histoire? Oh, wait. I remember you girls. We met in Lastation or something.
You’re Falcom, if I remember right.
Ah, sorry about that just now. You’re my reinforcements, then? I’m surprised they sent you, though.
How goes your adventure? Run into any more trouble?

Oh dear. The stock adventuress does seem to have been somewhat troublesome.

Oops, sorry again. I’ve been a tad on edge lately, what with this chaotic turn of events.
Why are you defending Planeptune with all your might, Falcom?
Wouldn’t you know it, but I was born on this island. I got attacked when I was visiting my hometown.
Amazing. It’s incredible you’re able to defend this island all by yourself. Are you…like…a tough swordswoman?
I try not to pin myself with a title. I was just protecting this island from ‘unwelcome guests’ who randomly spawn.
Besides, if you hadn’t arrived to help me out, it’d only be a matter of time before they occupied this whole place.
You’re saying that there’s hope to reverse the situation because of us?
Indeed. There’s a place not far from here that ASIC’s been using as a sort of bastion.
If we can cripple that location, they’ll probably just give up on invading this island.
Simple, clear-cut mission.
The problem is, I can’t bear to leave this town open to attack. Could you…go there on my behalf?
We sure can. As my sister would say, you scratched our backs, so we’ll scratch your itchy spots!

That’s a bizarre thing to say, what sort of person must her sister be?

Thanks. We wanted to come and say hi.
A rather courteous gesture. How fares 5pb.?
She’s doing really well. At some point she started talking to us casually like normal.
Is that so…
This may be a sudden request, thought I must not hesitate to ask now. May I join you on your journey?
Huh? What made you want to come with us?
There is no underlying reason. I just feel as though I have hit the glass ceiling in terms of Leanbox defense.
If you’d like to come with us, that’d be fantastic.
Then no other issues are to be addressed, correct? I am honored to be among your troops.
Oh, goodness…

Feinne’s Notes:
So we picked up 5pb at the start of the Chapter, and now we’ve got Cave as well thanks to the DLC. Let’s talk about both of them.

5pb is a caster, and largely focuses on damage dealing skills. She’s got powerful single and multi-target magic damage skills that also cause status effects, including the ever-useful Paralyze. As with most casters, she’s kind of slow and only really wants to be up close to an enemy to build up SP. She’ll never really do great damage with regular Attacks, because too many of them go off of her STR thanks to being physical.

Cave is basically just amazing. She’s a caster who can move and who also does good damage with her regular attacks, making her easily one of the best close damage dealers in the game. The only thing she’s not amazing at is taking hits, she’s somewhat fragile. Oh, we also get some alternate costumes just for having her (She has more in the shop but they’re very expensive and I won’t be showing them off for quite some time).

Speaking of alternate appearances, we get a new set of Processor parts for Nepgear now.

Wedding improves our defenses greatly at the cost of only marginally improving our attack. It’s super useful, honestly, because taking hits is Nepgear’s forte and this makes her even better at it.

Now we’re starting to get to where party formulation matters and is a real thing (especially since we’re about to get Falcom too after this next dungeon). So let’s bring up everyone’s support effects.

Null Stat Decreases, Breaks Damage Limit
Required AP Reduced, Gained EXP +
Nulls All Ailments, Magic DEF +
Shortens Wait, Nulls Stat Decreases
Nulls All Ailments, Gained EXP +
Nulls Stat Decreases, Magic DEF +
SP Accumulation +, Magic DEF +
Required SP Reduced, Physical Defense +

While Nepgear’s support effect is long-term one of the best, right now it’s totally useless because she’s the only character who has any chance of breaking 9999 in a single hit right now (Slash Wave in fact does run into that limit). IF, Cave, and Falcom all have really great Support Effects as well, since they all let you do more stuff one way or the other. Everyone else’s support effect is nice but has a less obvious effect on how you play.

So, now I’m going to do something regrettable. I’ve already recorded the first dungeon of Chapter 3, but for the second section I’m going to let you the viewers decide what the party will be. Here is how it will work:

1: Your Party must include Nepgear in the first slot, because at this phase of the game parties without her are largely nonfunctional.

2: The format of your vote should be something like this:
Nepgear – IF
Cave – Nisa
Compa – Falcom
5pb – Gust
With the main party member first and the support second.

3: Voting will continue until I actually start recording the section in question, so probably shortly after the next update after this one.

It appears our update was quite short. Regrettable. Next time on Hyperdimension Neptunia, Mark Two: The Legend of the Brand. Oh dear. This cannot be what I think it is.
