Part 1: Orders and Order of Battle

So, the Germans have won the vote with 38 to 32. We're also going with proposal 3, with 47 votes to proposal 1's 18.

Ship Selection

What will follow is the list of ships that can be chosen. As we're going with the hard option, to claim a ship, you need to email me at

thegreyhunter@gmail.com

Telling me which ships you want, you can also post in here if you want, so people don't all email me at once for the same ships. This way, I'm the only

The important ships are The Friedrich Der Grosse and the I Scouting group. The person choosing either of these groups will become an Admiral. Admiral Scheer will be in command of all forces, while Vice Admiral Hipper will be in command of the advance force of battlecruisers and their accompanying ships. (please note, just because it says "scout group" in the title, doesn't mean all ships are in the same area.)

Once all the ships have been claimed I will be issuing the initial set-up, Via email. Orders will be given in return via email. This will make this thread a little quiet for a while, but we're under the fog of war now.

Turns

Turns will be emailed to you. I'm not sure on the format yet, but It will either be a email with links to the images (as I'd post here - you'll need to copy and paste to see them) or a zip with the attached photos.

There will then be a time for messages and orders.

Maps

maps will be edited. You will only see what you know is in the area, any other enemy and friendly movements will be abstracted onto your map. These May not be accurate

Orders.

To make things easier, all course changes will be done as a bearing of the compass, with 0 being north, and 180 being south. If your ship is heading east, (90 degrees) and you wish to travel south, your order would read as this.

Turn bearing 180 degrees, 12 knots, fire on the Warspite

This means I don't have to worry about what individual ships are heading. These orders are then run for the 15 minute turn

When not in combat, the Admiral in charge will dictate the fleets heading and speed. This is a) realistic, and b) less work for me.

Messages

To simulate the fog of war, All messages will be passed to me. You must state the ship or squadron you wish to send the message to, and all messages will be limited to 25 words (for the sake of clarity, speed and heading will always be considered one word.)

To prevent to much chatter, each ship will be allowed one message per 15 minute turn, Vice Admiral Hipper will get two messages a turn, and Admiral Scheer will get 3.

Messages will either be short ranged or long ranged. Short range messages will be used between ships in combat, long range between battle groups.

To recreate the issues of communications that plagued the real battle. 25% of all messages will be randomly lost.

I expect people to observe both the chain of command and radio discipline. If I see any groups of captains spamming the same message to try and make sure it gets through, there may be an increase in breakdown amongst ship radios.

Right, here are the ships. This is going in the second post, where I'll keep it updated with who's who.
