Part 187: Trickster Insults

Midnight Voyager posted:

Amusingly enough, there's a bug in some versions of the game where your sheep get into a death spiral that you absolutely cannot recover from, if I'm not mistaken.

Surely that's not what is happening here, though.
No, I'm using a version where that bug got fixed. Any sheep deficit we have is because of too many shrines.

Looks like another questing year, with some exploration and trade on the side.

The only thing making this less than completely awesome is the fact that Elmalandti is so old. Still, Heroic wizard!

The state of our clan is...pretty good, all things considered. Our population is small, but happy. Nobody's sick or injured. Surprisingly, I CAN hire more crafters for once, but only 5 more. I don't do so yet, because there are other things to attend to first.

Also, we actually have more sheep than last year. I guess this is what people were talking about with the sheep count at Sacred Time not being accurate - it must take away the sheep for your shrines then, but you don't get your yearly growth until Sea Season. (I checked in Storm, and the count was the same as last Sea, so it doesn't seem that you gradually get sheep throughout the year either)

I also crank up the rye, because I'm going to have you guys vote on heroquests later and there seems to be a split between people who want Ernalda to keep us from starving and people who want Chalana to make nice with everyone. Speaking of which, I updated the OP with the secrets to Ernalda's quest - it basically spells out all the answers to the "Ernalda talked to so-and-so, and succeeded" steps that were vague before.

If we're ever going to get out of our food hole(without relying on heroquesting), we need more farmers. We were maxed out on hunters for some reason, so I send most of them back to the fields.

Fistivos, a thane of the Hiord clan, comes to complain that he was insulted by a member of your clan ring. "Brenna dined at our clan hall, and spent the entire night insulting me! She waved her bare buttocks in my face, touched my wife in an improper manner, and spit chewed food in my face! Because she is a member of your ring, my clan considers any insult made by her to be an insult made by your entire clan. Unless you punish her, there shall be war between our clans."

-Convince Fistivos not to take Brenna's insults so seriously.
-Outlaw Brenna.
-Remove Brenna from the ring.
-Suggest that Fistivos duel Brenna.
-"Brenna was right to ridicule you."

The people love Brenna, but do not want a feud.

I can convince Fistivos that a trickster's insults should not be taken as seriously as those delivered by a normal Orlanthi.

Have them duel.

Eurmal's japes often made fights worse. Once, for example, he helped the dwarfs kill many elves with the thing called Death, and he did it for a laugh.

Fistivos is very bullheaded. It will be hard to convince him of anything.

Of course I was right to ridicule him.

We are close to a feud with the Hiordlings already.

On top of that, vote for which heroquest we do this year. The choices are:

Humakt The Champion. Possible rewards include strengthening the quester, defending against undead, reconciling the weaponthanes, obtaining a treasure, and bestowing Humakt's blessing upon our battles. We already have Humakt's Sword from this.

Chalana Arroy Heals the Scars. Possible rewards include healing the sick/wounded, mending a rift in the clan, making peace with a neighbor, making the quester wiser, or making our wounds heal faster in the future.

Elmal Guards the Stead. Possible rewards include strengthening our defenses, gaining fine horses, strengthening our leaders or the quester, warding against chaos, or reconciling the weaponthanes.

The Making of the Storm Tribe. Possible rewards include gaining Orlanth's blessing for tribe-making, improving our reputation or political abilities, and making the quester a strong leader. We just did this one last year, but if you really want to...

Orlanth and Aroka. Possible rewards include bringing rain, strengthening our clan or the quester, making dragonewts fear us, or bringing back a treasure. We already got Splendorbread from this.

Ernalda Feeds The Tribe. Rewards include bringing back a (useless) treasure, increasing crop yield, making peace with the elves, making our cows healthy, reconciling the farmers, and strengthening the quester.

Lhankor Mhy Finds The Truth. Rewards include learning new myths, making our quester or the leaders wise, fighting darkness(whatever the hell that means), defending against chaos, or "learning more about dragon pass"(revealing more of the map, in reality).
