Part 38: Depositing a Letter

Right now we need a penny, so let's see what can we do.

The ruler to poke it out of wherever it's wedged?? I have no idea.

Pacing of this game is way different than the first. I've sort of been waiting for Violet Sky to play after these confrontations but so far they've all ended pretty ambiguously.

The ruler, huh?

Music: Heating Up

Ruler

Maybe I can use this ruler...

Kyle's actually picking it up. That's a good sign. Now where would the penny be?

DariusLikewise posted:

There has to be a penny in the Pinkie Rabbit Bank, hard to say how to open it without seeing Kyle do a 360 examination of it.

I'm glad someone remembers Pinkie Bank

Use small ruler on Pinkie Bank

I sure hope this works.

This one is a little finicky. Our goal is to bring the coins onto the ruler so we can slide it out.

Like so. We only need to get the penny, but more coins can't hurt.

Pretty sure I've got all the coins out.

I love how Kyle hesitate mentioning Pinkie Bank, even in his own notes. And the "or something" part of Pinkie Rabbit Land's description.

Combine empty envelope with penny

Music: Overstepped Memory

Now all we have to do is deposit it.

Music: Hidden Proof

Right mailboxes

Well, here they are, the mailboxes for the fourth floor.
I need to place the envelope in the one for room 404.

Use envelope with coin on right mailboxes The slots on the mailboxes have been sealed shut with tape.

(I need to put the response into this mailbox.)

First, we have to tap an end multiple times to loosen it up.

We can do this on either the left or the right.

After that, we just pull the loose end.

(Right, that's that sorted. Now to sit it out and wait for a reply to arrive about the Scarlet Star and the reward.)

Music stops

Hotel Cape West closed down 13 years ago and there was a party before the closure, during which time a murder took place. That staff at the hotel had a secret code, Star, that they used. What connection can this all have to the order sheet?

Say what you will about Dylan, at least he's not a late person.

Dylan!
Hello Mr Hyde, I've been waiting for you.
Well I'm here now. Let's get this show on the road.
You're on your own I'm afraid.
I'm not going in. You'll have to go on your own.
I thought we agreed you'd show me around in there?
That's what you said earlier.
No, I never said that. Maybe you weren't listening to me.

That's true, Kyle

Music: Ace of Diamonds
So you'll let me in.
Yeah, I said I'd tell you how to get through the fire door.
Got it.
And if you know how to get through the door without setting off the alarm, you'll never have to deal with Mrs Patrice getting upset if you go in there.

You know, unless she found out somehow.

Nice to my ears.
The first thing you need to do is disable the alarm. It's really simple, all you need to do is turn off the switches on the control panel.
Sounds simple enough, and I've used the panel before.

That's the one we need to use two fingers or the frame advance trick.

Right, I nearly forgot about that. Let's move on to the next part.
You'll need to disable another panel before you can get the door open.
There's another one?
There's a lever in a box to the right of the door. If this is turned off, you'll be able to open the door.
Do you follow?
Yeah, think I've got it.

So make sure you don't get stuck in there, becasue you won't be able to get back out!

I thought you were supposed to take care of everything in this building. Shouldn't the knob be included?

Great.
There's a toolbox next to the door. If you look inside it you'll find a doorstop.
Once you've got the door open, I recommend using that to prevent it closing on you. That should be all you need to avoid getting trapped in there.

I can see multiple ways this can go horribly wrong.

I'll make a point of remembering it.
I'll be in the hallway of the floor below making sure that nobody tries to come up here.
Good plan.
Then, once 30 minutes have passed, I'll come and get you.
I'll reset the lever you disabled afterwards and re-activate the alarm.
One last thing, try not to make any noise while you're in there. It just draws attention. You wouldn't want Mrs Patrice to come looking for you!
You got that right!
Okay, I'll leave you to it.

Dylan makes his way towards the stairs and disappears out of sight.

Um... What did Dylan said again? I forgot. Oh well, let's just open the door. What' the worst that could happen?

Knob The fourth floor is cordoned off by a fire door.

Music: Alarm

There goes the alarm!

Oops...

I'd better stop that thing and quick!

*footsteps*

Music stops (thankfully)

Mr Hyde! What are you playing at?
Didn't I ask you not to make any loud noises?
Yeah, sorry about that. Wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.
If Mrs Patrice comes up here to look around, we're gonna be in serious trouble.
Yeah, yeah, so you keep saying.

*footsteps again*

Mrs Patrice!

Music: Joke's On You
What are you both doing here?
Told you she'd hear us.

Hey, quit making that racket!
Frank, too?

Hey, excuse me!
How long do I have to put up with this terrible noise?
Damn, now Betty?
(This is not gonna end well... I should've been more careful.)
Would someone explain to me what all this noise is about?
Well, it's...er...
Mr Hyde?
Me?
So this was your handiwork, was it?

Mr Hyde, didn't I make myself perfectly clear before? It seems you chose to snoop around, despite my wishes!
Well, I...
Get your things and leave at once!

Just after we pay the rent!?

Music: Dream's End
(To be fair, Dylan did warn me that this could happen. How could I be so careless...)

Damn... With everyone worked up like this, there's no way I can investigate the Scarlet Star.

Not because you're just kicked out of the building?

Tony: 3
Mags: 2
Dylan: 1
Rex: 1
Marie: 1

I'm blaming Mags because, well, we asked her nicely. It's her fault for being so suspicious

I read that this Game Over can also be caused by a screwdriver, but I have no idea how to get it. There's one in Kyle's room, but he won't grab it.
