Part 19: Geothermal Energy

Update 19: Geothermal Energy

Music: Vidna in the Mist, no longer a spoiler!

Hmm. You don't suppose it's because the magma cooled? The effects could have spread this far. What irony!

Vahn...

Vahn, let's see if anyone's still alive.

Well this is unfortunate...but hey, wasn't there that one guy who was building a bunker? Maybe he got the people to safety in there. I'll check that out in a sec, but first there's something else I want to do.

Remember that room that had treasure chests in the super hot water? Well, now the water is drained (or is cool but didn't get animated for some reason? I dunno) and we can get the stuff inside.

And my memory served me well – Swordie does show up in his upgraded form here!

One of these days I'll teach a new Seru to Vahn and Noa. Maybe.

These guys are both kinda nasty. The Devil Pump has minimal defenses (barring immunity to Low attacks) but can hit the entire party for a good 100-300 damage with his special attack. Verials are decently powerful but are also so fast they can outspeed Noa now and then.

Here are the Spring Salts that the mayor of Octam wanted.

I forgot to get a picture of it, but we can examine one of the machines (ordinarily inaccessible due to the hot water) that holds a Magic Ring for some reason. It boosts max MP by 10% and I gave it to Gala.

Okay, now let's go check out the bunker.

Man: The windmills are stopped! There is nothing to keep the Mist out! Some rascal must be fooling around with the magma underground!

I love this game's translation sometimes.

Mrs. Danpas: My husband, Danpas, he built the shelter, but later on...he went outside to look for people who didn't make it, and never came back!

Aw, that sucks. I hope he didn't get himself killed. Maybe he turned into a Seru monster and will turn back to normal if/when we can find a way to get the Mist out of here.

Anyway, there's not really a whole lot to do in Vidna besides get the salts and learn Swordie. I guess I could play more slots, but I'd rather save my coins for later. Let's deliver those salts to the mayor of Octam.

Music: Not Jeremi, but Underground Octam

Mayor: Oh, these are the Spring Salts! Thank you so much! What are these for, you ask? Oh, ha ha ha! Why, they're for putting into bathwater! They make it smell just like a natural hot spring! Ha! Please take this in return, although I know it's not much of a reward. Please use it.

This is another curious accessory – it guarantees that the wearer will act last in battle. It can be useful to slap on your healer (presumably Gala) so they can heal everyone up right after the enemy gets to attack. That said, Gala is already slow enough that he usually goes last anyway. I'd rather have accessories that guarantee I get to go first, but this can still be useful.

Mayor: (Silence) It's because you saved this town that such a terrible thing happened to Vidna...Oh, the irony! I feel like I am to blame for the misfortune of the people of Vidna. But there must be something we can do. If you destroy the source of the Mist, then they will be saved from the Mist! Say, you are looking for a Genesis Tree, correct? Well, I know where one is! It's at Mt. Letona, which is next to Ratayu. But rumor has it that the ruler of Ratayu is quite a difficult fellow. But I'm sure that you should be able to handle him. Ha ha ha!

Oh yeah, Ratayu was the town that was blocked off by that huge fissure that had steam rising out of it. It seems it is also our next destination – perhaps we can get by now?

Music: Mist Covered Town

Ah! This must be because Xain froze the lava underground.

I sense something. Noa, can you? Do you sense it?

Gala! It's a Genesis Tree! There's a Genesis Tree nearby!

But wait...The Genesis Tree's energy level is fluctuating wildly...What does this mean?

The Genesis Tree is to the east! Let's pass through the town and head east!

Well, that's it for this little intermission. Next time we'll check out this new town and maybe get to work on finding our next Genesis Tree.
