Part 23: To Karisto

Update 23: To Karisto

Music: World Map Free of Mist

I recommend all of the tracks that I linked to in this update. Most of them are pretty uncommon and also good.

First of all, thanks to OminousEdge for mentioning this Miracle Water I missed. I let Vahn have it since Noa and Gala are getting all the specialized ones.

Meanwhile, in Vidna...

Hey, Danpas survived!

Danpas: I build a shelter but can't get to it. Ha ha ha! This shelter is always ready for use! When I go into town, they can't praise me enough, saying I'm a hero! That's why I stay hidden in the shelter like this. Oh, that's right. I have something for you.

This makes it easier to run away from battles, something I don't do much of because of losing out on precious, precious EXP and G.

I also got this thing. I've never done anything with it in previous playthroughs, but I'll try to keep it in my head to take some commemorative photographs once I figure out how or where it works or what on earth this thing is meant for.

Pepe: Father! I'm so glad to see you! Father! I'm so happy!

Pepe! Oh, Pepe!

Vahn! This is such a happy day.

Fade out/in

Vahn, Noa, Gala! It's all thanks to you! Thank you so much! I spent the entire night talking with Pepe. My poor wife is gone, but I'm so happy you've reunited me with my son!

Pepe: Thank you for bringing us together again! Please, take this. I found it during the trip. I hope you can use it.

All right, another one! I also gave this to Vahn. Stats +8 across the board in one update, not bad.

Now let's go to the town of Octam – above ground and Mist free!

This guy still sort of creeps me out.

The shop here has a few (pricey) upgrades. I was just barely able to afford all of the new stuff. Here's hoping it doesn't get obsoleted the moment I reach a town in Karisto.

Speaking of towns in Karisto, Sol is going to be our first destination. It's an...interesting place, one I both love and hate. But that's later.

Music: Octam Station

This is the train station. We don't really need Doors of Wind (in fact I'm kind of tempted to test if you could totally screw yourself by using a Door of Wind too early in Karisto) but it doesn't hurt to have them.

It looks like this is goodbye to Sebucus Islands. It has some good moments, but I have to say this is probably the weakest of the game's major arcs, and I'm looking forward to the next place.

Here's a rare shot of a Seru transforming in the game.

Music: The Ride to Karisto

Vahn! Gala! This is great! We're breezing across the ocean! Look, look! Octam is already out of sight! We're already at Karisto Kingdom! Soon we'll be in Conkram. Yeah, Conkram!

I know. Hari did say that your parents were in Conkram, didn't he, Noa! Vahn...When I was in Biron temple, I once heard...in Karisto Kingdom, Sol and Conkram were at war when the Mist first covered the earth. Zopu said he believed there was some connection between that was and the Mist. I think he was right, Vahn. But that's not all. Behind everything – deep inside the Mist – I sense a horrible evil!

The train slows to a stop over the ocean...

What's wrong? What happened?

Guy: We were just talking about it, and...

Man: This is not good!

Guy: They say the Mist in Karisto Kingdom is much stronger than they expected. So if we go any further, the Mist will start affecting our Flying Seru.

Man: I thought we could go farther than this...Oh, don't worry. It's a nice downhill slope form here on in! We'll just unhook the gondola, and with a little momentum you'll coast right into Karisto!

Guy: Just close the gondola door and leave everything to us!

Man: We're counting on you!

The Seru starts charging forward, dragging the carriage behind it...

...and then detaches, falling into the water and leaving our carriage propelling forward at kind of alarming speed.

Man: The Mist disappears, and next thing I know, we're swimming in the ocean!

Individual: I hope they're alright. Too bad the gondola doesn't have any brakes!

Guy: But, hey, those guys have Ra-Seru!

Man: You said it! Nothing can beat a Ra-Seru by your side! Alright, let's go back!

Individual: Shoot! I wish the Flying Seru could swim!

And so the carriage crashes into the train platform full force, throwing our characters out of the carriage and out of consciousness.

Then...

Music: Cara's Theme

You're so pathetic. See what happens when you depend on those flying trains? I can't keep getting you out of trouble, you know!

Hey, I never asked you to help me!

Cara, what are you doing here?

Suddenly a huge shadow covers the train station...

What is that?

...He took everything from us.

Huh?

The Floating Castle...it's gone.

Tell me, Cara. How are you able to travel freely through the Mist? How do you escape possession by Seru when you don't have a Ra-Seru like us?

Ra-Seru? What's a Ra-Seru? All I have...is this good luck charm!

Cara! That's a Ra-Seru Egg! Wow!

Oh, so that's what you call it – a Ra-Seru Egg! I didn't know that!

Cara, can I have that Ra-Seru Egg?

I don't think so! No you can't have it! It's mine! Why should I give it to you? Ha ha! Well, I have to get going. I have things to do!

Wait! Cara, where are you going?

Sorry! That's a secret!

And Cara runs off.

Oh, that woman! But...I wonder where she got that Ra-Seru Egg.

Care might really be a nice person. After all, she helped us up.

Well, we're at the Karisto Train Station. It's small and there's only one thing of note.

These Travel Kits offer 5 Healing Blooms, a Door of Wind, and a Door of Light, for 3000G. I'm not sure how that compares to the individual item prices totaled together but I took a Travel Kit anyway.

I then put 3000G at the stand because I am an Honest Person.

And that's it for today. Next time we'll fight sentient cutlery monsters!
