MS Saga: A New Dawn

by Tobias Grant

Part 2

Our next destination is that house up there. Bit of a short walk.

I still ran into a group of tanks on my way there.

Meet Marie. I have no idea why she's dressed like that either.

She's got cool glasses, though.

Mobile suits are kind of big.

Now it's time for the time-honored RPG tradition of looting everything that's in a treasure chest.

Loot list:
Restorative drink (restores pilot TP)
Regeneration kit
GPS system (teleport to any previously visited town)
Armor Upgrade Kit

I wish I knew what mech that head is from. It has the Gundam's signature V-fin and red chin, but no Gundam that I know of has the GM's visor camera set up instead of the two eyes a Gundam usually has. It's probably from no specific mech, though.

Seriously, it is never explained as to why she is in that get-up.

Also there are a lot of mobile suits roaming around or something I wasn't paying attention.

Marie gives us a letter and tells us our next destination, a Unicorn branch in Angelia.

We can rest at Marie's house to restore our Pilot's TP, but it won't repair our 'bots. There is a simple way around it though.

Just use Fritz's Repair technique to repair them and then go to bed. The TP that was used to repair the suits will then be restored, and you can leave with a rested head and a repaired robot.

Before we can go to Angelia, Fritz here want to see the burning remains of the Orphanage.

The orphanage is on the way to Angelia, it's hard to miss it.

Hope you like flashbacks!

We are going to break this promise so many times.

Gotta give the game credit, He was barely even a few steps away before the Orphanage blew up.

"Hey kid, got any marshmallows?"

Anyway, enough reminiscing over good times, time to get to that town.

Angelia is a short jog east from the Orphanage.

Once we reach the town, this guy calls us up and stops us. Unfortunately, this game doesn't give us the option to loot and ransack the town.

It's Lootin' time!

First, the shop.

Those regeneration kits are going to come in handy, especially with the way I play. So are the repair kits. The Healing Meds I got are also handy to have around since Hurt really sucks. More on Hurt later once I actually get afflicted by it.

Time to get to lootan'.

Damn! I'll have to remember this door later.

Ecaps will come up later as well.

This dude in the Mansion gives us this. It's just the Bestiary for the game.

The Mansion (with Doberman Pinscher.)

After you're done lootingvisiting the town, it's time to pay the Unicorn branch a visit.

Fun fact: The Unicorns could be considered as a rather subtle reference to Amuro Ray.

The Unicorn's own emblem is nowhere near as cool, though.

The Unicorn branches are the Inns in the game. later branches will allow us to upgrade our suits, but unfortunately this one doesn't.

Money saving tip: NEVER pay for both lodging and repairs, it's always triple the cost of just resting, so just repair your suits with a repair technique, and just pay for lodgings to restore your TP. It's way cheaper.

We give the letter to this guy, and he tells us to go to some ruins since Mobile Suits have been spotted there.

neat.

Anyway, we leave and head of to the ruins.

tanks.

The Moon Ark is close-by, so it's not much of a jog to it.

Thanks, Fritz.

The Moon Ark has quite a few side passages, all of which have nice goodies.

Like this Machine gun, which I immediately hand to Fritz. Katz gets the old Zaku MG.

Magella attack tanks! These guys have a pretty strong attack which they will use once they hit 3 EN.

They still die in two hits, though.

Excellent! We just learned our first Boost attacks!

I never did understand why they put switches like this next to the door they open. I know it's to show you what a switch looks like, but it just seems pointless to me.

This glowing yellow thing is a mandatory enemy encounter. If we run into it, we'll have to fight whatever is in it, and we're not allowed to escape.

That's an excellent idea!

The Type 61 Kai is a more powerful version of the Type 61. get used to seeing the word 'Kai,' since we'll be seeing it alot.

Both Katz and Fritz take a turn to go Super Saiyan.

Time to unleash Hell.

As you might expect, Shoot All damages all enemies..

Boost Attack just deals a large amount of damage to an enemy. It's also a pain to get good screenshots of it.

The rest of the battle was just clean up duty.

Further into the Ark, we find another encounter.

Ah, our second fight with a Mobile Suit!

This fight is actually kinda funny, because while I was dealing with the tanks...

He ended up killing himself via counter-attacks.

Even further in is another encounter.

This guy has a Magella Top Cannon, which is a pretty powerful weapon. It's also the only weapon he will use, so if he doesn't have enough EN to use it (3 EN), he'll just defend.

This guy drops our first Mobile Suit part! I can't wait till I get to put it to use. The Signal Flare just teleports us out of the dungeon.

Son of a bitch.

Yet another yellow encounter. The Magella II is the same thing as a Type 61 Kai, just a stronger version of the Magella.

It also drops this beauty, and Fritz learns Grenade, a technique that ignores armor and deals around 50 damage.

Fritz get's the Magella Top. This thing can do some serious damage this early in the game, and can be used with Shoot All.

The Magella II was guarding this shield, which belongs to Katz now.

Lookin' good.

Anyway, time to move on.

These Red Encounters are usually reserved for Bosses and Mini-bosses. Make sure you're prepared before fighting one.

It's a Zaku-II!

Something I want to mention real quick, MS Saga has some pretty good music. For example, The song that plays for this cutscene is great. Give it a listen.

beware of some spoilers though, if you want to be careful of them.

Katz recognizes it as one of the dudes that blew up the orphanage, and charges in.

This guy is awesome. Can we let him live?

I guess not...

Click here to listen to the Boss theme.

The Zaku-II isn't anything special.

It does some mean damage, though. The 6 was from Fritz's weak little counter attack.

Just keep layin' the hurt on him and he'll eventually fall.

Awesome, a Heat Hawk!

The Soldier drops the name of the guy in the Black Zaku, and then promptly explodes.

Oh yeah, and there's a girl on the ground for some reason.

She also has some issues.

The game then teleports us to Marie's Cabin.

Katz decides to go chat her up.

Understatement of the year.

Seriously, just look at his helmet. I don't know whether to punch the person who made that helmet and decided to color it pink or to shake their hand.

Turns out the girl has amnesia, and can only remember her name.

Eh, I was going to go back there anyway.

ROBOT ROLL CALL

HT-01B Magella Attack Tank

First appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079)

The Magella is the tank Zeon used in it's assault on the Earth during the One Year War. It's one claim to fame is that if it's main hull was damaged, than the top of it could fly off and continue to fight. However, it had a very limited amount of fuel so it couldn't stay airborne for long. It's main cannon was often re-purposed into a weapon used by Mobile Suits.

MS-06F Zaku II

First appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079)

The Zaku-II is quite possibly the most popular Mobile Suit in Gundam history. Variations of it appear in almost every Gundam show, and sometimes makes cameo's in shows that have nothing to do with Gundam at all! This was Zeon's Mobile Suit of choice during the One Year War. Zeon used it's superior capabilities early in the war to Blitzkrieg the Earth Federation forces. However, by the end of the war, the suit was quickly starting to become outclassed by Mobile Suits such as the GM, Gelgoog, and Dom.
