Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue

Part 3: I LP a Pigeon Dating Sim and MissEchelon Waits Until NOW?

Dinner ensues offscreen, the scene simply fading out and back in with Lan remarking how tasty it was.

Lan's mum is probably an excellent cook, what with being the mum of a shounen character. Plus she has a fresh cake up on the kitchen counter every day. That's kind of awesome.

Off in ACDC2, after a little "something" that will be revealed next update, the YaiCode allows access to Yai's PC, so now we can meet with the usual trio.

The reason why the start of Battle Network games are always good is because you get to hang out with your friends!! All the time!!! Yaaaaaay!!

You'd think that I'd prioritize looting and pillaging the place before anything else, and you'd be absolutely correct. The only thing Yai's homepage has is a Sidegun S however, and that's pretty lackluster.

Yai's PC is great, check this out-

The tastes of the rich, so refined...

An offscreen hour later, Glide notes how late things are, so being the only responsible person out of the whole crew, he cuts things short.

I told you Glide's cool.

I don't know what was with the blink animation this update, but it seemed to really want its presence to be known. I swear, 90% of the time a mugshot is stationary, the blink animation isn't constant. And yet somehow, it feels like it shows up like, one out of every five screenshots. Mayl's line comes off looking all "tee hee hee, I know you haven't!" instead of a normal question.

That's her disappointed face, you know she already knows the answer.

Lan's a bit surprised, giving a single "Ack!", but he's pretty calm about things anyway. The assignment's easy.

Dex is not quite as fine, because he...left his storage disk at school. CDs are singular items that contain exclusive data, after all. No, he can't email the assignment, or use another disk. I like to imagine a computer science major reading these LPs someday and just convulsing.

"My disk with all my work on it!" says Dex, via his personal terminal, to his friends connected over the internet to a worldwide network available in every device. "Oh noooooo!!"

This is a believable scenario, thanks to the good worldbuilding that Capcom always does, because uh... um. Maybe it was a history class and it's meta to have to hand it on disks?

If only things could be left at this, everyone would be better off, honestly. I suppose what I said at the end of last update was a bit of a mistake, given that the chat isn't really interrupted. It's more that a different priority comes up after it.

MegaMan, ever the watchful older responsible sibling, scolds Lan for teasing Dex. Man, MegaMan's a better older brother than I am. The only "awesome big bro" thing I've done was give my little brother some uranium ore (it's on Amazon!) for his birthday one year.

Yyyyep. I'm an older twin, and the only thing I did for my little brother recently was steal his laptop. Maybe if I was a computer program made from my DNA and also dead things would be different for my computerless brother.

I like to think that GutsMan is suggesting simply getting a replacement disk rather than what follows.

GutsMan possibly does not know that a disk without the required data is kinda useless, but gosh he's trying to help anyway.

Time to break into the school! This is a good idea.

That makes Yai a lateral thinker!

Sounds swell.

Everyone is weirdly enthusiastic about this venture, practically bouncing up and down. It's not like an empty school is going to have a gift shop, guys.

Ghosts are super exciting though. You say that like you won't be hunting ghosts like crazy this LP!

Nothing for it, but here we go. Dull surprise, meet dull enthusiasm. "I am so excited. This will be enjoyable. I watch old reruns of 50s educational TV."

Oh my gosh let's go watch 50s educational TV!! That shit's so cash.

MegaMan brings up the homework, but Lan brushes that off, eyes still half-shut.

Dex reciprocates. Maybe it's allergy season in ACDC Town or something. Lan teases Dex some more, asking if he's afraid of ghosts.

Of course not! Sir GutsMan denies such foul slander against his erstwhile companion!

I bet Mega wouldn't defend Lan with that fervour!

Dex "Bravery" Oyama returns to squinting. I'm more amused by this than I should be, but it is 3:30 am after all. Everything is funnier after midnight for some reason. I've noticed I write my best when half-crazed by insomniac dementia.

Oh, he's not stuttering with fear, look at those eyes! Dude's gotta sneeze, hardcore.

Lan's mom is fed a plausible cover story, and we're off!

Seriously, I'm surprised every time Lan tells his mum anything.

Interestingly enough, this is the only time a night environment is shown in the whole series. Night ACDC is given a new ambiance, and I like it for just being a little extra bit of effort.

Even the windows are all lit up!

We also meet this fella out and about! He's got a unique mugshot and sprite, so you can be sure he'll recur later on now and then.

Now there's a manly bearded fellow! Maybe one day we can all aspire to have beards like that.

Beardman, as I'm forced by potential Time Paradoxes to refer to him, will show up some more as MMBN3 goes along. For now, he's just a bit miffed that the kids these days are misbehaving and staying out late.

Possibly the most sensible adult in ACDC?? He's clearly not a local, with that sort of attitude.

Oh, well, so much for that idea guys.

They tried!

You know what that means by now, hopefully!

Everything is connected to the internet. Except disks.

This ultra-tough Navi is the first boss of the game.

Nah.

This is why you should always use Mr Progs for important stuff. Mr Progs for everything!!

MegaMan proceeds to open the gate, unlocking the program, which makes a jarring clunking noise for some reason.

It's hard-coded in. And it's nice to see them get sound effects right for a change. ...though I do kinda prefer stuff like-

Just for general laffs.

Battle Routine, Set!

Exe-nevermind. Heavy sleepers make the best guards.

Wouldn't've happened with a Mr Prog

Lan is more than a little relieved to have not been caught breaking into his own school. Mayl sends Lan a message after.

I don't know about the school security, but the writing staff apparently have "forgottn" something at least.

Haha how bad would email be if you were restricted to that many characters though? Mayl soldiers through regardlss

Oh, of course. To be fair, any time Lan doesn't take the lead, disaster immediately befalls the others, so I guess it's warranted.

Dex has previous experience as a leader, so him ordering Lan around is his good leadership. Good ol' Dex!

Yai, that phrasing is going to bite you in the second part of this update. For now, though, it's off to Lan's classroom.

Did somebody say chicken?? This thread needs more chicken.

No, Gunther here did *not* appreciate me waking him up to take a photo of him with a PET. But he woke me up at 4am today, so that makes us even.

WHEN DID YOU HAVE A CHICKEN!?
