Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue

by Epee Em, giver336

Part 26: Clean out your net areas with the power of Scrubbing Bubbles!

We cut ahead to Wily complaining about Sunayama's retarded decisions.

Wily. Somehow constantly surprised by his team's fuckups.

Oh hey, those things.

Oh hey, check out those two globes the Wily statues are holding up. Wily may be an inept villain, but hell if he can't decorate a room.

But this isn't Battle Network 6!

Or Battle Network 2.

I am bad! I am evil! I am Dr. Wily!

You go girl.

I'm getting a certain connotation behind these lines.

The connotation is that it's fun to make fun of old people for being old and weird.

I just have a dirty mind I guess.

(you do)

Huh.

Oh, I get it. Wily, you manipulative bastard, you. So beautiful.

Hey Anetta, use your brain. If Wily just wanted to stop pollution and shit like a hippie, why would he have such a high tech base with a shit ton of machinery? That, and what the hell were the other members of this organization doing? What do you think WWW stands for?

Washing Water Warriors?

Obviously technology will save our environment. Computers, hooray!

...let's destroy net society usign the internet.

Our whispers are getting attacked? Whispering Water Warriors?

HIT THEM, ANETTA.

Good thing she's utterly retarded.

That's how Wily likes his WWW members.

New badguy confirmed.

OK here's my strategy: we should try to befriend her.

That must have been good for the ratings. Master Plan Sunayama.

Bet it got played all over the news too. PRETTY SWEET, COWBOY GUY.

Good. Let her rot.

She's probably fine! I'm sure Glide's keepin her company in the hospital.

I'm sure she's fine. Her head was a cushion against that large fall. I don't want to visit her! Noooo!

Let's visit Yai!! Yay!!

Just past the huge traffic cones.

Huge traffic cones are for keeping short people out.

Derp. Well, then again, who wants to remember that they have to clean something? I don't.

Lan didn't forget, he ""forgot"". Like his homework for the entirety of last game.

Fuck you, man.

Higsby's disease is a phenomenon that seems to afflict a total of 5 NPCs every year.

Symptoms include: suddenly being cool.

I'm being mocked!

After a shitty job of cleaning...

And you continue to be mocked

We have an e-mail about factories receiving the tentacle rape treatment. So anime.

A quick look of my collection after the last scenario yields a pretty big step forward in progress. Rest assured that after this update, the number of SChips will skyrocket.

I have a lot of errands to do. I probably won't advance the plot in this update, but I will be showing you some late-game viruses, as well as getting their chips. You know what that means, don't you? IT'S TIME TO VIRUS BUST! Those of you who enjoy that type of thing in my previous updates will love this update. For those of you who want to see the riveting story continue, wait for the next update.

ALL I WANT IS PROGS

I NEED MY CHIPS!

Yet another computer that does not unlock right away. Like I said, I hope you're checking these at later points in the story to see if there are any computers you missed.

Always backtrack, forever.

They will have necessary swag like this. StepSword has a Sequential Program Advance in this game, meaning we need all the codes we can find.

It's also pretty sweet on its own.

Get this Prog a girlfriend (boyfriend?).

Get this Prog a realdoll prog

Trash viruses in there, anyway.

GIMME! ME WANT!

Heck yeahr this guy is alllllll right

Ah, Christ. Not this.

Ah, yeah! This guy!

Hope you've been paying attention.

but which one is your hole

"The earth" is clearly best answer.

What about the "it was you all along" twist

But there are more than 9 kids in that class!

Yeah, but one of them kids is Lan and one of them kids is Dex and... laziness

You'll have to examine the board outside the cafe to find the answer for this.

500z would be pretty high for a coffee, you'd want it to be damn good coffee.

Gimme your prize.

Your prize is three pandas. I wish

Excellent.

Just gonna unlock this.

Respecting network security is for chumps*

*don't quote me on that

Also cleaning Yoka Square's shop out of EVERYTHING.

Moving on to Beach Area 1...

This right here is a chip that can only be found in a Green Mystery Data in Beach Area 1. Unless you regularly come back and check, you'll never know if an empty slot in your Standard Chip Library was from a GMD or what. Therefore, when you get to a new area, I suggest you clean out the mystery datas a total of 5 times. You're pretty much sure to get at least 1 copy of every reward that area would have to offer. I only cleaned up Beach Area 1 twice, and as such, I did not get AirShot2 *.

It's not as if chips don't appear unless you examine mystery datas a certain amount or something, it's just you want to maximize your chances of grabbing all the rewards in a particular area. If a new Battle Network game is being made somewhere, or in the future, utilize these tips. With 5 Untraps you're spending about 500Z, and you'll likely get those back in virus fights or mystery datas that hold cash anyway.

For RPGs without real levelling up, MMBN games sure get grindy sometimes.

I also have to seriously question why Capcom made 3 versions of AirShot. Let's face it, if you're using AirShot, you're using it for the utility, NOT the damage. There's no reason to have higher versions of a chip like this. Now, for things like Cannon, sure. Because Cannons are "training wheels" until you can safely acquire better things. Same goes for TimeBomb and numerous others. It's almost like they made versions 2 and 3 as a way to fill Library space. For sure Battle Network 6 had the best overall Library. Almost every chip in that game was useful to various degrees.

I hate this fucking chip. What it does is keep MegaMan still while he sucks in the viruses to the front. After about 2 seconds of sucking (during which you cannot move!), three tornadoes spawn on the front column dealing 3 hits worth of damage. Fucking stupid because you have to stand in place while the wind sucks the enemies to the front. And once they're at the front, you still have to wait the entire 2 seconds! This leaves you way vulnerable to a move by your opponent.

All I heard was 'whoa check out that moustache'

Non-Custom Style reward for Yort.

Yort is still fun to say.

Heading over to Beach Area shop...

Buying out everything from this guy.

Those netdealers are doing gangbusters today. Good for them.

Stocking up on GrassStages. This NPC had 3 in stock. I always buy multiple copies from the shops if I can. More copies = more folder building.

PAY ATTENTION TO THESE NPCS!

You guys just got every single bit of info you needed to find a rare virus. No one can tell me this game doesn't at least point you in the right direction for at least a FEW of these.

Pay attention to these NPCs or bitch about how MMBN3 pulls a dick move with these hidden viruses! ...Actually, pay attention and also bitch about that. Capcom is a bunch of jerks.

Bottom line: These games were meant to be slowly digested. You need to check everything a few times over, be thorough in grabbing rewards, talk to various people and read all of the BBS posts. If you rush through these games you will find yourself going "how the hell do I do this?" There are some things like the EX codes that are impossible to figure out without a game guide, but still, a lot of the info you need can be found within the game.

But paying attention to children's games is for chuuuuumps.

Not only does this comp not tell you if you can jack in, it doesn't open right away. Spam the jack-in button on everything. EVERYTHING!

Spam every button, if it ain't a jack-in point it might be hidden treasure.

Sweet.

Woah, what the fuck?

And they don't drop chips. Hmmm...

Little weird. I'm sure it's fine.

How do you not know?

What does he look like, a guy who knows what he's doing? Of course not, he looks like a Mr Prog.

I see why you like Progs, Echy.

Mr. Progs clearly cannot be trusted.

Yeah maybe on OPPOSITE DAY.

At least this warp point hints that you're missing a jack-in point somewhere. Always be very observant.

I think you guys know what must be done.

Swapopolis? OK then.

Yes, we are using EX Codes to emulate the Humor Program. This lets us tell funny jokes by pressing the "I Need Help" button. This serves no purpose other to just let us take a nice break and listen to bad jokes. When I actually get the Humor Program and all the locations unlocked, I'll probably transcribe the jokes.

OH MY GOD YES. If I recall correctly, part of my original deal with Epee Em was that he equipped this regularly and used it a whole heap.

the other part of the deal was visiting ALL THE MR PROGS

This is gonna suck.

Awwww yeah this is gonna be great!!

BOOOOO! YOU SUCK!

Underwhelming, but I still love this program. It is best.

Wat

This is so dumb, yet lovable.

Best. Program.

I don't like this chip. You place this little guy on the field and for everytime you are hit, the damage on this doubles. The attack is not only east to dodge, but also starts at a measly 10. The obstacle doesn't last that long, a mere 20-30 seconds or something. Your opponent would have to be absolutely retarded to let this thing power up at all.

And yet, watch, somewhere out there is a player who has used these things to perfection.

That picture is pretty cool. I've never actually used 'im, though.

YAY! MORE BOATS!

oh no oh noooo STOP THE BOATS*

*i'm so, so, SO sorry

Abusing frames, you could jack in from this far away. #SpeedrunningTactic

Does Lan still have wireless? I'm assuming he lost it, along with all the sweet chips GATERS I stockpiled last game.

But let's see that rare virus!

Hardhead/Coldhead/Hothead: These viruses are nearly invincible until they open their mouths, upon which they fire a cannonball that homes in on MegaMan's position. When the ball lands, a broken, ice or lava panel is created. S-ranking these is a pain because when there are two in a room, it takes a bit more than 5 seconds for both of their mouths to open.

These viruses is OK. I mean, they can be absolute jerklords when paired with other jerklord viruses, but gameplay-wise that's a solid design.

At nearly all levels they drop M code, even S-rank. I'll have to check the Custom Style reward later. I'm genuinely curious as to what it is.

Shrimpy2 and 3's are a thing if you equip Fish, apparently. New chip plz.

Shrimpys is tasty. Just putting that out there. Man I wish I'd bought prawns for dinner that would go great.

This should do.

Gotta be quick and paint the target before the Yort trolls me with blocking CopyDmg.

Yort just wants to be part of the party

Bam.

Aw, Yort got to be part of the party

Level 10 drops this, which you might find necessary to get. Bubbler E, Bub-V E and BubbleSide E make a PA. The same PA can be made with Bubbler C,D,E or Bub-V D,E,F or BubbleSide E,F,G. You want to get all the Bubble chips in E so you can have less codes running around in your folder.

Remember, Level 10 and S don't always drop the same rewards, it depends on the virus.

Dang the rules for them drops is way too complicated.

Oh look, Spikey3s! 190 HP is actually a little beefy, so this will require doing.

Dealing 180 to Spikey2 knocks out the Shrimpy in the back since it has CopyDmg painted

I've never actually used CopyDmg (Gater don't need that), but it looks pretty great, good stuff.

FUCK! That's not what I wanted! Screw this, I'm out.

MMBN got you the wrong puppy

You couldn't jack into here during the N1.

You were running around a bit too much for that, anyway.

Flashing is inappropriate.

Uhhhh maybe don't let that Mr Prog near small children.

What if the lighthouse was actually in the shape of a Prog? Hmm.

What if everything was in the shape of a Mr Prog???

oh. my. god.

Yay! Now I can actually use my flamethrower! With any other style, it would make your style's charged shot stronger.

With Fish still equipped we can meet Totems in here with Swordy3's

Totem: Cool little things. They shoot a 3 square flamethrower that slowly grows and retracts. If at any point you hit them with an attack that deals more than 10 damage, they turn around to reveal another face. This face will only use Recovery Chips to heal itself and other viruses -- however, those don't come into play unless it's at half HP or less.

Yeah seconded, Totems are rad as heck.

The non-Custom version is A? Shit. Then what do I have to do to get P code? Custom S-rank?

CHIP TRADER

More mysterious viruses.

They're just hanging out, being cool guys. Did you try making friends with them??

Oh god, Fishy3. With 240 HP each and the ability to run across the screen several times, this is actually a hard virus to S-rank at this point in the game.

If you're not careful, Fishy3's can generally mess you up. Especially with WoodStyle. Jerks.

Then again, the game gives me am easier encounter to S-rank them with. Once the fishy family runs into an obstacle or another virus, they are forced to return to their original position. By putting a Windbox in the middle like that, they gave me an easy solution. Note: when there is Wind pulling or pushing you, it does not count as moving. Free movement points!

Free movement straight into them poison panels. Aw yeahrrr.

By using Dash Attack at just the right time, I could hit both Fishy3 and Windbox. Now, when you use DashAttack, you are invincible. So, I timed Dash Attack such that I could "dodge" the Fishy3's charge. And of course, Fishy3 charged back into the middle row, causing it to stop when it touched the Windbox.

Yay. Condor deals 180 damage, is faster when it dashes, but takes a bit longer to charge up. Gonna replace my Dash Attacks with these.

Condor? Were they always called that? ...Weird.

And here we have the level 2 of the AirStream drop variants. Why is it the only virus on the field? That makes it impossible to get an S!

Oh my god. That pink moustache. It's so majestic.

I thought you could only get Fan * in a post game area. Guess you could get it this early if you wanted.

Very good chips. After attacking, they heal you for a set amount of HP. One of my favorite chips in the series. Later versions attack and heal up to 3 times each!

It's like a Roll chip but you don't have to put up with Mayl

I mean wait shit we love Mayl, she's a cool friend and all that.

Ta-daa! There's a warp point in the lighthouse that can take you to the Undernet! Very strong viruses, yet very good rewards.

This is only Undernet 2. There are 7 areas in this game.

Aw yeah, the undernet!! We love the undernet! Cool look, cool chip drops, cool heelnavis.

THE HOLY GRAIL! Behold the most famous GigaChip in the series. Too broken! Restoring your entire Chip Folder including itself, and giving you a FullCust? YES PLEASE! White version gets completely jipped in this regard as they only get a GigaChip that just re-uses the last NaviChip used.

With Folderback, we never, ever have to worry about running out of chips. Hell, you really don't have to worry about your folder being all that good. Provided you are excellent at dodging.

And yet...

I won't be buying it. I don't really need it, besides the chips he sells are good for folder building as well. Do you guys REALLY want me to have something this broken given my current track record with S-ranking?

WELL I would buy it. And use it. Forever. I mean it's no Gater, but...

Our virus population for Undernet 2 is...?

I'll be S-ing you later, Spikey3.

Another virus that's a jerk with WoodStyle.

Tuffbunny!

Tuffbunny!!

Booooring.

Two new viruses!

Metrid: They don't like to move into your row. After hopping around, they will "melt" into the floor, activating their staff. That summons meteors to rain down on your panels which may or may not target your panel to keep you on your toes. They like to melt behind obstacles or other viruses, usually.

KillerEye: They stole my name. These little bastards will track a particular row, be it diagonal or straight. This is denoted by tiny red spheres on that section. If MegaMan is in the area they are detecting, they will fire a paralyzing and FAST laser. This is electric element and will paralyze.

These guys both look hecka neat. That seems to happen a lot with viruses in these games.

If you're moving quickly, you can move into the virus' row and move away, avoiding any damage. I did just that, but stopped to paint him with CopyDmg for the combo.

Haha, that's not even a particularly good zenny reward.

An easier formation than KillerEye and Metrid.

CanoDumbs are a gimme around here, it's nice to get a chance to take a breather.

Yay. HP differences in the screenshots be damned. I stayed here for a good while to get these chips. Why? Motherfucking Zenny for an S-rank.

Not an S, but I'll take it. The Sensor chips are pretty good. They do exactly what the virus does.

No S rank? We expect better from you.

JELLYFISH

Jelly: I bought the Level 2 chip from these viruses from Higsby's in my second update. They fly all the way up, and while doing so they are invincible and un-target-able. When they float back down, they can be hit with your attacks. After doing this about 4 times (or even less in higher versions), they will unleash a 3 panel tidalwave move. This move cannot be dodged normally. You need to get behind an obstacle/virus/broken panel and then the tidalwave for THAT row will disappear. It works just like the chip.

Seriously, I've S'd these things so many times and I kept getting Zenny. Fuck this game sometimes.

Jellyfish will mess you up, man. On the plus side, if you survive you will have the most metal scars

Swordys and Shrimpys. Sword the shrimps.

Sweet.

Whoah, how many viruses you been battling, man?

FloatShoes is far better than ShadowShoes -- allowing us to negate the panel effects of all except Poison in Battle Network 3. It was later expanded to negate poison. Now, this would be worth considering if I didn't already have HeatShadow. As a freebie, Heat Style negates Heat Panels, which cause 50 damage upon touch. Frankly, that was the biggest threat to me. Ice Panels just make you slip, which I use to get around on the field to save on movement points. And it isn't like cracked/grass panels are any threat to me. No, this program sucks.

However, the last level of Shadow Style has something ridiculously strong.

After being an idiot, I finally decided to put in my FullCust. To my surprise it only costs 10MB to set as your Regular Chip! This is absurd, because with FullCust appearing every virus battle, my options for S-ranking increase several fold. CopyDmg and FullCust are S-rankers best friends!

Oversight or intentionally great? Aw yeah.

But I'm finished here.

Sweet. That kid wanted our Bubbler C for his WideSword C which we can now trade up for a Recov120 S. There's another trader NPC who wants Recov120 S, so it's a good idea to never chip trade these things.

Yeah, chip trader is fantastic, but you wanna be careful what you stuff in there.

Where's your security now?

Also what is security?

Nice.

ANOTHER ONE!

Now, I could easily exploit this by not fully completing his minigame via savestates, but I'm not going to do that to this one. I think there are 3 "Double or Nothing" minigame NPCs, so I still have one more. What I'll do is save the last one towards the middle of the postgame. You see, this game has a sidequest that throws a LOT of money at you. I'm talking a few hundred thousand Zenny. Yet, despite that, it might not be enough.

Why? I don't just buy HP Memorys and a select few chips, I make sure to clean the shop out of every copy of every item they sell. This is healthy for folder building as I'll have more options down the line. Thus, I'm going to keep a "Double or Nothing" NPC in my backpocket just in case I ever need to abuse someone for cash. I'll try not to be cheap because I like to think players following along on a cartridge should be able to emulate what I'm doing. So I want to keep emulator abuse to a minimal.

Let's face it, netbattling as much as you do, and getting jerked around by the RNG for battle drops as much as you do, ya probably not doing bad for money right now.

I didn't capture it, but he gives StepSword L. StepSword's codes are: L,M,N,O,P. You only need three for the PA, so if you can't get this one, it's okay.

B-but your completionism...!

Report this Program for incompetence.

I will not

i will report him for adorability

Programs training Programs. This is a valid scenario in today's society, but I still like to think Mr. Progs could incite a revolution if they wanted.

Prog society is many-layered and complex.

Terrible.

Yyeah let's face it, you only using the buster if you're like 11 years old.

Mettaur3!

Now, Mettaur3 has a very special drop if you manage to get a Custom S-rank. It's a chip that cracks all panels in a row and deals 190 damage. It is beautiful. Now I'm kicking myself for not keeping Custom Style and letting you guys vote.

The amount of super-special chip drops in this game is a little absurd.

Another place to get ZapRing2 chips considering the formations are easier in here.

Our cleanup is almost done. We just have one more place to check out.

Oh good. This is a long update and I am a lazy miss.

I will hack your TV shows and put my face all over them.

Ratings gold!!

SWEET! This chip is highly underrated. I could explain why, but I'd rather show you why. Just give me a minute.

Is it "My Neighbor, My NetBattler"?

What's with Programs and slacking off in this universe? No wonder everything gets fucked up.

They're helping in their own special way.

Always helpful.

Oho, look at what we have here.

Twins: This virus is interesting. It will always move around its buddy, lining up with it either horizontally or vertically, never diagonally. They will attack by sending a weird glyph down your row or column, depending on where they spawn on your field. The kicker here is if you kill one of them, that one will spawn back to full health! The only way to kill them is delete them both at the same time. I hope your folder is catered towards S-ranking!

JUST LIKE TWINS IN REAL LIFE.

Teams 1 and 2 and a GigaChip for a Program Advance. I'll need Team2 *, which I'm guessing is a Custom S-rank drop.

And now we're in Undernet 6! You are never required to go here throughout the course of the story, but you will need to during the postgame.

You'll also need to go here for FUNTIMES in Undernet 6.

Level 2 Totems. I did not show it, but there are Poison Panels on my side. Since it would be unfair to spawn you directly on them when a battle starts, they spawned the player on the top row.

Huh, that's surprisingly thoughtful of this game.

With FullCust set as my Regular Chip, I'm able to S-rank this. I just RockArm3 the one in front of me, FullCust to go back to the Cust Screen, then move down twice and Condor the other two viruses.

I still hate these chips.

...moustache.

Not sure why I got an M code this time. What's the deal? I'm not sure, hmm...

"m" for "hey that's a killer 'mo"

Tuby. Instead of making its allies invincible, it just confuses you. Snore.

I HATE THESE THINGS.

Viner/Viney/Vinest(?): Asshats. They are completely invincible to all attacks except fire. You can damage them normally by waiting until they spawn a tentacle in your field that tries to track you down and grab you. If you get caught, you can take a lot of damage because the tentacle squeezes you multiple times. TENTACLE RAPE! You have to hit the vine/tentacle to damage the virus itself. This means it's nearly impossible to S-rank an encounter when one of these is in it simply because you have to position yourself away from the vine and you have to kill the other viruses.

DemonEyes are the Level 2 variants of KillerEye.

Eyeball virus: still neat design.

I shall S you later.

And now my health is getting low.

Time to show you why Jealousy is the SHIT.

For every chip that the enemy holds, Jealousy deals 100 damage. Totams have about 3(?) Recov150s. That's 6 chips for a total of 600 damage to the ENTIRE enemy field. Yes, it will even hurt enemies that don't have chips, as long as at least one enemy does. Now, Jealousy goes through Auras, Invis, and even pierces enemies like Vineys that are impervious to most forms of attack. You have an enemy like KnightMan that only takes 1 damage from all attacks? Suck it, he's eating the full damage. This works on bosses too. Bosses like FlashMan Beta have Areagrabs that you can use Jealousy to get off free damage. Swordys giving you trouble with Areagrabs? JEALOUSY! Good, if situational.

....holy crap. I didn't know this was a thing, that's so fantastic, situationally.

And of course I get nothing.

Ah, right. These cubes. They only open up when the corresponding Beta version of a Navi is deleted.

Right, that's BubbleMan. Sooo, open up? Please? Pretty please?

No. I made a mistake. In my second update of this Let's Play, I extended the update past a good drop off point because I wanted to kill BubbleMan Beta. I remembered that this was here, of course, and so, I wanted to delete BubbleMan so I could open up this cube when the time comes. Unfortunately, I underestimated BubbleMan's trolling abilities. It's only now after the fact that I realize BubbleMan's cube has a special rule. If you do not examine the cube first, killing BubbleMan Beta won't count!

MOTHER. FUCKING. TROLL.

BubbleMan! What a guy!

Always talk to NPCs. ALWAYS.

BubbleMan is a coward?? Well... I guess that's believable.

You know what must be done now. I must reduce my health and delete this fucker AGAIN!

BUBBLEMAN! I've had enough of your shit! You are going to be made my Bubble Bitch! Alphabet soup! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

SUCK IT!

FLASHDANCE!

Okay, good. Time to get the reward behind this cube.

What.

WHAAAATTTT

WHAT THE FUCK?

What happened to the mystery data that was here? There's supposed to be a blue mystery data with a decent chip inside. WHERE DID IT GO! Don't tell me I broke this game somehow.

Fuck

The true reward was inside yourself all along.
