Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue

by Epee Em, giver336

Part 31: Root Access. Blame Tunicate for that pun.

PlantMan! It took me a week to track you down, get out here and FIGHT ME!

Yeah! It took him a week to find you while I was absolutely no help whatsoever! Get out here!!

Yeah, if you see a chip he's holding, that one is actually mine.

If that's the excuse you gotta use, dude.

More of this. And this time, we have 3 more areas to trek through, making it a grand total of 5. Fuck.

For something where you get to set a lot of things on fire, it's not exactly the most engaging dungeon.

MegaMan the Legendary SuperNavi

Telling 11-year olds to play with fire: always a good idea.

And yes, we're actually in Area 3 right now.

You can start meeting Vineys in here to grind for your oh so important Rope1 chips. Not enough sarcasm? Fine, we need it to re-enact hentai.

Who needs hints when you have a madman who wants to burn everything?

That Mr Prog's talking to you about weed, I think you should listen.

Pfft. Don't hand me a chip in a code I don't have! That's going to make me SAVE it!

That sounds like a personal problem. Help is available, man.

Ho, ho, ho, THERE we go. Also, the answer is obviously the vine right behind and below me.

See?

I NEED CHIPS! DO YOU HEAR ME!? I can't afford to be getting Zenny in this fucking dungeon.

Keep your Zennys to your mystery datas, kthnx.

Missed it, but this one is called a SubMem, which allows us to increase our max stock of SubChips from 4 to 5. Now we can have 5 Untraps, 5 Unlockers, etc. There are 3 more in the game.

Pretty much only useful for not having to remember to keep buying Unlockers quite so much. And then cutting back on backtracking. So, actually pretty good!

One last "waste a chip plz" before Area 4.

Holy crap Mega's going super saiyan.

Oh sweet. Hardhead.

That's not the usual response for seeing one of these buggers.

Sing a song!

A song for the CopyDmg!

Aah, I get it now.

DAMMIT! Granted, I needed to S-rank him, but come on! I! NEED! FIRE! CHIPS!

Okaaaay, Area 4. What's happening?

How about the first fucking puzzle having 16 options!

Burn it!! Burn it all down!!

Ooooo, where do you lead to?

Nowhere. Of course. Fake warp points. In a dungeon like this.

Haha wow, even the teleport maze in the final dungeon of the last game wasn't as cruel as that. Hahaha

Oh hey, Mister Puffball!

For such cool-looking viruses, these guys are utter buttholes. I guess that's to be expected.

Needed to obtain this chip anyway, so even though it isn't a Fire chip, it's forgivable.

I highly suggest you try to aim for a Rank 10 on these guys. This code is shared with Anubis and one other chip needed for a Program Advance. We'll get to that later.

You can easily get a Rank 10 by avoiding damage, deleting both viruses at the same time and in 5 seconds or less, BUT moving 3 times or more instead.

Yeah, and it's a pretty fantastic program advance iirc.

There you are.

Only interested if it is a digiswitch under the digivines.

More vines up there.

Fire! FIREE!! MORE FIRE!!!

And this one has a warp point.

It is pretty hard to commentate the same thing over and over again, huh?

This one has a path that loops around the digiplant, thus it isn't necessary to burn this one. Too bad I did anyway. Why? Out of HATE!

May as well go for the arson completionism!

Now onto the last area of this nonsense. Hospital Comp 5, here I come!

Yaaaay!

The boss is obviously past these arrow panels. Now let's finish this shit so I can do something I wanna do.

There is a rare virus in this specific area. My viruses busting senses are getting out of control.

...Oh. I thought you was gonna go see that Mr Prog.

Oh cool! New style!

Aww yeah, WoodShield Style Pro Style!

Why, yes, I will. For a few reasons:

1. I need to go through all the Styles for the useful programs they give.
2. I planned to show them all off anyway.
3. Shield Style can wear the same colors as Custom Style, making this a great way to use Custom+1 parts freely.
4. I'm a defensive player at heart, and the free barrier saves us from moving and damaging.
5. It makes the next scenario boss that much more fun.

WoodShield is of course the style I played through most of the last game with. It's pretty fun! You get it from not getting hit a lot.

Actually, I'm not too sure how I got this Style. I have about 3 Totem chips, and 1 Fanfare, but that's the extent of my defensive chips.

Need.

Elemental disadvantages do not scare the mighty Killer.

Ha, double-damage from grass style and grass panels. Good times.

What did I say!? This is just going to make me SAVE them, game!

You. Have. A. Problem. We're here for you, man.

Why the hell does this one say "find" and the others say "found"?

Better not be a fucking fake, I swear.

Or what? You'll use more fire? Ooh, that'd be good actually, burn it all down!!

Good.

Completionism, yayyy!

Picked this one up. Add more to the collection of G codes!

I like the pic on this chip. It's like the viney is going "oh you"

Last switch.

Hooray!

And the last digiplant burned. Yes, I burned all the plants in all 5 fucking areas. And yes, I grinded to recoup my losses.

HOORAYYY!!!

But now, class, we can actually start VIRUSES BUSTING! YAAAAAY!!

Okay, back in Area 4 for a bit. Special mention must be made for this virus encounter. Look at it. We got two viruses who are nigh invincible. And with only 2 movement points to spare, it will be difficult to S-rank this. Buuuut, see Jealousy? You guys remember how good it was, yes? Puffballs have 3 Areagrabs, which should mean 300 damage to the whole enemy field.

Ho ho hooooomygod I'd totally forgotten already about Jealousy's situational brilliance.

TOO BAD IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK! Yes, I made an error when I described Jealousy. Apparently, Viney is such a dick that its immune to Jealousy's effect. Mother. Fucker.

Aw. At least it hits Puffball even with his face/shield up. That's nice.

Okay, so that's how you wanna play? Round two!

Metagel2 is used here to further increase my chances of manipulating the Puffball. I have a Sensor next in my queue, and I need for Puffball to get into the middle to get the attack off BEFORE CopyDmg disappears. Thus, I need to heighten my chances of him going to the middle row ASAP. Luckily, Sensor can pierce most defenses.

Yes, I probably should have used Metagel2 first, given that Puffball was a few frames ahead of me shown by his movement into the middle row. Never said I was perfect, only that I'm the king,

Sing a song! A song for CopyDmg!

Chippy chippy buster
Make virus go KABOOM
Double Delete, baby
Oh, my S-rank
Coming to ya soon!

Please tell me someone gets this reference.

Echy, scratch another one off my Shit list.

oh you

And now we'll be equipping Fish and heading back to Area 5.

This COULD be considered an easy formation for some Metagel2 chips, if you're interested.

Which you should be, because Metagel = great chip.

And here we go. Mister Pengon. This is the only place in the game where you can meet him. But, remember what I mentioned about them? That they become impervious to just about every attack save for electricity? Good thing the field's all normal panels.

How about when they use an IceStage chip? Yes. Pengons carry this to make themselves invincible. Pricks.

Penguins travel prepared, man. Always remember this.

Jealousy is a solid pick for them as well. That, or FlashManV1 for an easy 200 damage when they activate IceStage. Their HP total is absolute shit for a Level 3. 130? Please.

FlashMan is always a laugh on an IceStage, honestly.

Oh damn it all, I'm fighting too much.

Block just reduces the damage you talk by half via pressing Left+B. Shitty when you could just use a Shield for the same command and nullify all the damage. Battle Network 1 armor reference?

Some shields (all shields? IDK, I'm specifically thinking of the shield what came with ShieldStyle in the last game) don't block supereffective attacks, so maybe this would be useful then?? I have no idea

I don't think shields ever failed you if you blocked an elemental weakness, so I guess you mean the elemental Aura chips from Battle Network 1 and 2. Which, by the way, are stupid. I'm glad they got more efficient with their Library from Battle Network 3 onward.

I actually need more IceWave3 chips, but I'll go fight the boss now. Otherwise, my Shield style will level up AGAIN before I leave.

Hahaha man how much have you been battling?

But first...

BeastMan seems kind of weak, yeah? 40x3 on one square for 120 damage. And if you don't get the epicenter, you're dealing only 40 damage. Hmm, if only it had some super secret way of adding more power -- a way without relying on other chips. Just watch the upcoming video.

Oh, you already got what you came for. I guess we took too long getting here.

If only there was something else we could have done. Alas.

Why give him that information? Yes, I know they have to exposit for the audience and for MegaMan, but still!

Remember, this dude is the navi belonging to what is probably the least competent WWW member, and they're totally in it for telling people things (OK, they're in it for telling people to SAVE THE WORLD, MAN but still).

"The Beast" being Giver/Killer, of course.

Just as long as it's not Gospel bugbeast. Again. Nobody tell me though, I've totally forgotten what happens in this game.

Wait, did you stay around just to delete us? Wouldn't it have been more prudent to just keep this a hit-and-run?

You've got a shield style, a hit-and-run probably ain't effective.

Check 2:19 for the BeastMan code in action.

Just a little tip to help you guys get the most out of your chips. If you time button presses JUST when the claws hit their target, they'll hit twice, effectively sextupling the damage on this chip. So it went from 40x3 to a 40x6 chip. It's not bad, really. What I like to do is spam A+B simultaneously and continously. It tends to work most of time. If you noticed, there's an extra little graphic that appears when the enemy gets hit to show that you did it right. The effort.

What the- how did I not know that?! Where are you getting all these neat chip tricks from?!

And so knowledgeable.

YEAH FOR REALS what the hell man

One more? Fuck.

One more? Yayy!!

Final boss name drop!Oh, come on. If you're new and reading this, it was gonna be obvious.

AAAAA I said don't tell me- wait I forget, who's alpha? ...Nevermind, I guess I'll figure it out when it happens.

Why are you STILL talking?

"A Navi whose trees are in full bloom" I hope you guys remembered what that Security Cube said.

"A total fucking flower". Yeah, PlantMan is pretty great.

Yaaay.

Aw yeah, thanks Doctor Megaman.

That doesn't look fixed to me, bro.

Ehhhh close enough.

Have you tried turning it off and on?

PlantMan broke them as a final "fuck you".

It's their own fault for hooking up the scalpels to the network.

Wait, what?

Hold on a minute, your energy is gonna power this thing? Can other Navis do that or is that just a perk of the DNA?

I'm not sure that any navi has that going for them, I think we're thinking about this all wrong. Mega can fix the equipment with his ghost power

Flicker-based animations!

oOOooOooOoo

MegaMan, you could always do that? The fuck, man. The fuck. IT WAS ALWAYS THAT SIMPLE!?

Although, that clearly drained him considerably, so it's probably not something he should do often.

See, pulling random magic powers out of one's arse is difficult, whereas netbattling is fully sustainable.

IrfanView decided to make these screenshots white after Batch Conversion. I had to re-fill these into the black screens you see now. IrfanView does not want me to bust viruses.

The Mr Prog that is irfanview is an especially special one sometimes.

I want my BattleChip.

Here we see Giver treating Mamoru way, way better than he treats Lan's other friends.

Would be a fantastic move by the game if Mamoru didn't make it because PlantMan fucked up the equipment. Could lead to some opportunities, too. But that's just my opinion.

A fantastic bummer, maybe. Also we'd probably be complaining about that, because it would be inconsistent what with everybody else in this game surviving far deadlier situations.

I just want everyone to die, okay?

And they leave.

Of course he'll make it.

That's the spirit!

Fuck the BattleChip. You owe me interest on saving your life, kid. I DEMAND A NETBATTLE

Eh, I won't chastise Lan for sleeping after today's ordeal.

For Lan, that's probably a pretty standard day.

Hooray. Mamoru is all better.

Hooray!!!

Uh, yeah, that was when we were banging on the door.

If you heard him screaming anything about battlechips don't worry, we're trying to get him into counselling for that.

You dreamed about Hub? How the fuck? You know what, I'm not even gonna ask.

ooOOoOOoOOo

Let's see, carry the 1, subtract the dividends, multiply the compound interest annnnnnd you're looking at NEVER APPEARING IN A FUTURE GAME. My debts are strong.

Or, if you give me a creative fight, I might clear your debt, who knows.

End of scenario.

Damn, wanted to check my collection.

YOU HAVE A CHIP PROBLEMMMMMmmm
