Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue

Part 68: Yep, This Game Is Still Going.



OK, so only 2 stars left. But there's a problem. We can't seem to fit any more stars on our screen.

Hm. Well, that is a problem. Maybe we could -



In order to advance further in the game, we need to input another super secret command code! What you need to do is Highlight Continue, hold Left, then press R,R,L,R,L,R,L,L. This will push the stars together like you see in the picture, letting us collect the last 2. Some of you might recognize this as the same code that lets us unlock BN2 Hard Mode.

...Or, yeah, let's do that. Probably better than whatever I was going to suggest.



Now, we unlocked a new set of bosses! They're called the Omega Navis. I've fought BowlMan Omega in this LP, as well as FlamMan and PlantMan with ROM hack fuckery. But, in order to find them for real, we have to go to random squares on the Net to run into them. It's just like running into any Alpha/V2 level ghost.



Helpfully, they're located somewhat thematically. This one is obviously FlashMan Omega.

It's in the School computer, for those that somehow haven't figured it out. Which area? We're not going to give you all the answers, c'mon now.



But before we fight any Omega boss, we have to fight a round of 3 Omega-level viruses each. No, these aren't hard at all.



You could at least throw down some Ice Panels on my side, game.



OK, this one's annoying. The damn bees teleport every half-second and are invincible every second, so this can easily reduce your HP. I guess you could say...this encounter bugs me.

And here he is. Now, given all of the challenging things I've done in this LP, FlashMan Omega is nothing. Omegas just have more speed/damage/HP than their Beta level counterparts, so this isn't really worth making a video about. I could beat these things with no hands, feet, legs, arms, while being underwater, blindfolded, gone without sleep for 10 days, high as a kite, no coffee this morning, skipping breakfast, while in space, doing homework, while a volcano was erupting and holding off a Reaper invasion.

Not that Giver's bragging or anything, of course.



Better. Hacking to put 4 enemies on the field causes the game to start, well, breaking. The graphical fuckups on my Custom Screen will only last for 1 turn, but we won't be able to see the fourth enemy's HP. So, we'll have to do some mental calculations to figure out where he stands. Still, one BassBS is harder than 4 of any of these Omega Navis. For the record, FlashMan Omega only does 100 damage.

White Dot: The white dot is a placeholder sprite thing the game loads if there's an invalid sprite. You get invalid sprites by having too much sprites on the field to load. You might be seeing this quite a bit.

For the majority of this LP, I've avoided cheap and super powerful folders and strategies in the interest of fair play. However, since we're in the home stretch, and since these fights aren't anything new in terms of AI behaviour, I'll instead clone every Omega-level boss 3 additional times and show off a really cheap/powerful strategy. The name of these videos will be called "Game Will Cry"

I did cover the 11th Chip Glitch sometime ago, but even fewer people know it can be taken further.



Take a look at my NaviCust. There are 3 Custom+2 and 1 Custom+1. That's +7. Combined with the freebie from Custom Style gives me +8. 5+8=13. So, we can now have 13 chips in our Custom screen. In order to get 3 Custom+2, you'll have to grind out Custom Style 3 separate times.

The downside to this setup is that I lose HP REALLY fast whilst in the Custom Screen.

It's a neat little trade-off, actually. You have basically unparalleled chip selection, but at the same time you can't take too long actually selecting the chips or you lose all your HP.



OK, so let's choose the 3 chips we want to dupe over. Recall that the 11th/12th/13th Chip Glitch duplicates whatever's in the second slot in your folder.



My cursor disappeared, but we can see out 11th chip is Boomer2. Now, let's press Right on the D-pad.



See where my cursor is now? That's our 12th chip: RockArm2. Now, we'll press Right again.



And Boomer2 is again our 13th Chip. So, we'll select the Boomer2 now.



And as you can see, the 3rd chip slot in our queue has been overwritten with BassGS -- the chip I chose to be in the second folder slot.



Now, after we chose our 13th chip, we'll press Left, and then A again.



Now our 2nd slot has been overwritten, so we'll press Left once more...



And bam, that's 3 BassGS chips in the same draw. Now, keep in mind we can select one more BassGS chip if we had it in this draw. You know, the one that's actually in the folder and not a duplication? Instead, I opted to choose 2 more legitimate chips.

Do you want 4 Folderbacks in a draw? How about 4 Navi Recycles? 4 FlashMan V5's? 4 ZeusHammer's?

Yeah, everything is fucked. Just... straight up fucked.



DEATH TO EVERYTHING

Now, going back to the video, we can see that I duped Navi+40 twice, then chose my legitimate Navi+40 and my Wood+30. That raises my PlantMan V5 chip from a power of 60 per hit, to a solid 210 (Navi+40, Navi+40, Navi+40, Wood+30 = +150). That will then again double when it hits FlashMan Omega. Ouch.



The V5 Navi Chips are all GigaChips. Even after we completed so much of the game, we still have a lot of chips to collect.

Remember, all you have to do is beat the boss and they give you the V5 chip. No need to S-rank the fuckers. (Giver's going to S-rank them anyway, of course)



FlashMan V5 sports the highest paralysis time out of the entire series. However, you probably wouldn't want to use any of the Navi Chips over Folderbak or NavRecycle. I mean, 150 damage for a GigaChip is quite low.



Next up is BeastMan Omega. He's located right where the SneakRun NCP was. Which is also required to fight his Beta version.

There are two types of NetBattlers. The ones that know how to use Panic, and the ones that don't.

In BN3, confusion causes enemies to keep attacking in the same spot. They won't be able to move. If a player is confused, they move randomly. Panic only confuses enemies if you are confused.

So many neat little effects that most players will never bother to figure out.



This setup grants me confusion and still gives me utility effects. Simply place the Humor NCP off the command line and you'll get a free, permanent confusion in-battle.



However, using this chip presents a problem: it freezes the emulator. It's so broken, emulators can't handle it.



To fix this, go into the memory viewer portion of your emulator, type in the 8 character memory address in the bar, then change that first set of numbers to 01. Any changes you make in VBA's memory revert back to default when you close the emulator, so you'll have to keep making changes whenever you plan to use it.



Oh right, why did I use this chip? Because confusion prevents enemies from moving? Well, they can still attack, just like the Mettaur. But BeastMan is special. BeastMan always moves to your area before he attacks. Since he cannot move, he cannot attack.

And then we have the fun combination of Poison panels, PoisPhar, and Panic. P FOR DAYS

I have no idea.



Not like the hole in this area didn't give it away. Also, Shrimpys suck in groups.

Who could it be.



Beware the IceStage. But this shouldn't pose any problems to you now.

I don't know who we're going to fight, Giver! The suspense is killing me!

BubbleMan's AI can't deal with obstacles. He's got one crab that he throws, but that's it. His Phase 2 BubbleShield can't hit you if you hide behind an obstacle. Having obstacles on the field also blocks the bubbles. There's a reason your first encounter with BubbleMan has a boulder in it! Use it!

In summation: Fuck BubbleMan, he's a shit that can't even fight you right.



Our next one is in a random console. Yes, if you didn't know the locations, you'd have to check everywhere. EVERYWHERE.



Can be annoying? You make one hole on the field and they are useless.



I hate Momogras.

Magnum time! Also, Hammer.



You know, you could put some Sand Panels on my side of the field, game. It would make these Omega fights so much more of a threat. And please, if you can't deal with these fights and the Omega boss at this stage of the game, then you should probably return your cartridge.

While this does sound like typical Giver bragging, he's right. If you're following along successfully, you've beaten Serenade, S-ranked every Navi, AND beaten the time trials. You really shouldn't be having a problem with these viruses at this point.

Flash Crusher is more of the powerful folders in the game. As the name implies, you build a whole folder around FlashMan. You stunlock and Invis pierce with that NaviChip all day (on an IceStage for double damage!), then you use Plasma, HyperRat Program Advance and VarSword Elemental Shockwave for massive damage. Recall that the VarSword Elemental Shockwave can do 640+ damage depending on elemental bonuses. Pain.

HyperRat: the single good thing to come out of Rattys.



Some of these GigaChips are stupid. While the multi-hit ones have potential, I fail to see why you would ever use a chip like this. Even if you land the command code, that's still only 420.

Is it just me, or is PlantMan Omega really slow? Other Navis got a speed boost in their final form, so why not him? Did they forget? I know they were stunned, but when they did move, it seemed lacking.

Also, "Rittle Rascals" is a name I invented for spamming R-coded Virus chips. There's a few more than what I put in the folder, but that's to show off the potential of the Virus chips, if you ever manage to master them.

Time to bait Yeti: By doing mental calculations, I didn't need to use a Fire attack at the very end. I only needed the Ice Cube attack which was exactly enough to kill PlantMan Omega, all without seeing his HP. The blue Ice Cube has high base damage.

I'm more amazed that the LPix SSLP tester supports the mmmsmug smiley, actually.

And anyway it's probably that you just missed the Fire Scuttle




FlamMan, come out and plaaaaayyy.



Why even bother. Spikeys suck late-game.

Probably the only reason these might be a threat is if you're somehow not paying attention and enter the fight with like 100 health.



Well this one's cute. Should you ever get locked down, this could potentially be dangerous. But that takes a while to happen. You'd have to let the Basher break a column and let the Volcano live. The Volcano doesn't have any Lava Panels to heal from, which is a shame.

Adapted from the GameFAQs folder by the same name. The premise is that you lock down a column with Sensor or Magnum, then you power up BubbleMan insanely, and unleash the damage. It's fun to use in PvP, but very predictable. BubbleMan is the worst character in the game, and yet he has one of the strongest NaviChips. What a troll.

OK, tell me how Mettaurs are appropriate for DRILLMAN.

Like Flash Crusher, PlantMan and Sensor3 form the basis for this folder. You just continually lock them down with stunning/paralysis, and then you follow up with other P-coded moves like Punk, Plasma, EvilCut PA (StepSwrd+HeroSword+StepCros), etc. Also, it's funny how they stack up when they're hit. If you manage to get the elusive Quadruple Delete, the game will just display "BugFrag". No, you don't get any.

With all these noob tactics, I'm starting to feel like MissEchelon.
