Part 98: BassXX Study Session (BN5)

Gonna add this to the Bonus section, because why not.

Overview: The top dog himself. The main issue with this boss is his high HP and defensive capabilities. BN5 just doesn't give you the options to deal with that effectively unless you abuse Double Souls, or Counter. And Counter, you must. Fortunately, it's not tremendously hard to do so. Bass will always lead the fight with his buster, giving you plenty of practice in learning to stop it. Once that comes out, the regenerating 200 HP Barrier will form up. Use NorthWind, as it will permanently remove it from the rest of the battle. All of Bass' attacks hit for 300+ damage in this form, so that means your Anger status will activate at every hit. Use this profusely, as you'll need the damage output. Bring SuperArmor. You don't want a random stray bullet messing up your rank.

Learn The Frames

Bass will always start the fight with his Buster. Press 'A' as soon as you see the sprite change. It should nab you a counter before the Barrier comes up most of the time. FireHit is a good choice for this.

Bass' DarkArmBlade is a pretty easy attack to counter. Guard/CrsShield work wonders against it as well.

While I don't have a counter for Hellz Rolling Wheel, it's worth noting that it has 2 points where you can Counter it: right before each wheel comes out.

Top Tier

:Is this ever a bad option?

: Near-instant hit, keeps you safe while you either interrupt his buster, or counter him. Good pick.

: Bass loves to use DarkArmBlade. Punish him for it.

: If timed and positioned well with a Full Synchro, this can do 600 damage via double hit mechanic.

: Instantly removes the regenerating Barrier for the rest of the fight. Yes, PLEASE!

High-Average Tier

: The command code lets you hit right through his Barrier, and removes it for the rest of the fight. Would be top tier, but the range of this chip is pretty small.

: Almost as good as Guard. Guard just provides a longer shield, and allows for 2 hits.

: Bass has high HP and high damage output. You'll want the green apple for defense, and the yellow apple for damage output.

: Throw this onto Hellz Rolling Wheel for an easy 600 damage. No really, 600.

: Unlike MoonBlade, you'll have to wait until Bass decides to travel to your area. Somewhat limited, in that respect, but it's definitely a good pick. 240 damage and grants a Counter? Great.

: Need to protect yourself against the overpowered Buster? Use this if you want.

Suck Tier

: Bass is invincible when he moves. Most likely, this attack will miss, even though it snakes around.

: Only use this if Bass decides to hold still.

: Bass is fast. If you miss with this, you just left yourself WIDE open.

: Less effective than you think. The buster hits so fast, and that's really the only attack you need to defend against.

2016 Presidential Election Tier

: You stand still dealing gradual damage while Bass does his thing? No. Unless you use the Deadly Combo at the end of the video, don't bother.

: "DIS IS SO UNFAIR111" Look, this is an early-game chip. Just don't touch it.

: Unless you rock ProtoSoul, this has no range.

: Why are you trying to prevent yourself from getting more chips?

: "viable"

: "worth"

Magic

Wait until LarkMan leaves the field, but before he attacks. Hold B and press Up, Right, Down to make this attack go through Auras/Barriers. Notably, on BassXX it will stop the barrier from regenerating for the rest of the fight!

Praise The Sun

DarkMeteor causes mercy frames with each hit. GunDelSol removes mercy frames and continuously damages you. Thus, you get hit over and over again for massive damage that stacks. DarkMeteor starts with a base damage of 100. Yeah, that hurts.
