Part 16: Ep. 10: Acting With Dispatch--Eventually

Miniature Moose posted:

Also, I just picked up the Wii version of this game from a used game store for $7 so there goes whatever little social life I had.

Awesome! It won't destroy you forever, at least--even a fairly thorough playthrough will only take seventeen or eighteen hours. Heck, I'm doing a playthrough where I go through many conversations three or four times (looking for decent camera angles) and I'm probably still going to clock in under twenty hours when all is said and done.

: Last time on MySims Agents: Whoa, look at this place!

---

The place is ours! Let's look around.

The lobby/entranceway is sandwiched in the middle of the five floors. In the front here we have Jenny's receptionist desk, the elevator, and a rack of pamphlets, for some reason. At the back...

Hang on a sec.

There, that feels more appropriate.

Anyway, at the back we have Roxie's lab area and our own 'nerve center'.

Five floors, just like Roxie said.

We have a gloomy, damp basement with a lot of cinderblock and exposed pipes...

A short hallway leading to a pleasant walled garden at ground level...

Something that looks like a gym in a corporate high-rise on the floor above the lobby...

And a nice waiting lounge and balcony on the roof. The arcade cabinet there is the ever-popular video game Plane vs. Eye. It also has a secondary use, which I'll get into later.

Also, here's the launchpad for our jump jet, hell yes.

Finally, you may have noticed the new tool in our tool wheel. What is it? A paint gun! Now we can use all those paints we've been finding. There's nothing like a tacky DIY paint job on an exorbitantly-expensive government installation. To demonstrate, we paint the roof balcony a nice shade of fingerprint with magnifying-glass accents.

But there's something we were supposed to be doing, right? We go back to the lobby.

Time to recruit our first junior agent! To do this, we ask Roxie for the file of pre-approved candidates and, after selecting several who look promising, begin the laborious process of background checkssspffffhahaha

Sorry, what I meant is that we call up our good buddy who's looking for a job.

There are five skills/'interests' that junior agents can have. Travis' interests are Charisma (three pink magnets) and Smarts (two yellow lightbulbs). Shockingly, this means that he'll do best when sent out on jobs that require smart and charismatic agents.

The other possible interests are Paranormal (purple aliens), Nature (green leaves), and Athletic (blue soccer balls). If these seem kind of random, that would be because they are. I mean, because those kids are after our Lucky Charms. I mean, because those are the skills that are relevant to the junior agent job. Somehow.

We recruit Travis. We then have to put him somewhere in our HQ. The patio on the first floor is nice. Hang out there, Travis.

And now when we go to the patio, there he is, on his damn cellphone. But he can't just loaf around HQ eating free pizza all the time. Let's put his ass to work. We go talk to Jenny at the front desk.

: Any clients with dispatch missions?

Only one dispatch mission available. It's one star, so as easy as it's possible to be. Which is good, since we only have one agent and he's just some random dude off the street.

: Send that new recruit of yours, Travis, to take care of it and I'll keep you updated on his progress.

Amazingly, the job requires exactly the skills that Travis brings to the table. The details screen is pretty self-explanatory.

We tell Jenny to send Travis's 'team', which apparently has a fair chance of succeeding--

--and Jenny packs him off to see about a cat in a tree.

: I hope he'll be okay...

: Dispatch agents will always check in with a quick text message to let you know how the mission is going. Make sure you keep an eye out for any updates on your cell phone.

: Right. That's a good way for us to keep in touch.

: Yeah, it means you don't have to hang around HQ to get dispatch updates. You're free to search the city for new cases.

Pause.

: Seriously, you can go now. I'll work real hard while you're gone.

Sam is just about to leave--

--when a mysterious woman rushes in.

: Next time on MySims Agents: Who is that mysterious... who... ... I can't do this, pal. It feels weird.
