Part 55: Ep. 40: The Worst At Listening

---

: Last time on MySims Agents: Whatever the job requires--whatever it takes--Special Agent Sam is willing to go there and do that. Even if it's mean and rude.

: ... I said I was sorry.

---

Sam leaves the lab, his goal twofold. First, to tempt Grit away from the wires with this stolen TOBOR part; second, to place a bunch of sandwich-shaped sound sensors on trash cans. If it is Grit making the noise, great, we fixed the problem! If not, the sandwiches mean that we'll have a backup plan.

Hey, there's a trash can right outside the lab. Let's put a sandwich on it!

And... it glows. Ominously, even.

Running back down into town, Sam finds this trash can under the elevated train station. It is duly sandwich'd.

Sam's search for trashcans eventually brings him close to Club Candy. He decides to take a quick break and go talk to Grit again. Heck, if this works, he won't need to handle any more glowing sandwiches or gross trashcans.

: Chew on this!

: There! That's better. Now you're not making such a racket.

Musing, Sam pats Grit on the head.

: Hopefully that was all that was causing the noise...

Out comes the notebook.

: It looks like Grit was making a lot of noise up on the roof!

: OK, Grit is quiet now. Is DJ Candy still hearing the sounds?

Let's go find out! Sam heads back inside. His mind is full of sandwiches, so instead of heading around to his convenient crate stairway, he runs the walkway gauntlet again. He's up there balancing on a beam when his ringtone goes off, startling him.

GODDAMMIT WHAT oh hey Pinky

Ew. Also, I would think that would be more purplish than blue. Anyway, Sam dusts himself off and goes to talk to DJ Candy.

: It turns out there was a dog on your roof.

: A dog?!

: Yes. But I've taken care of him, so...

: I can still hear the beats, though.

Curses!

: I see... well, I guess your hearing is better than mine. I'll keep looking for other sources.

Candy frets off and Sam updates his notes.

: Looks like the sound wasn't Grit after all. I'll need to explore my other leads.

Or Sam could take over DJing for Candy while Candy is distressed.

Or Sam could wander around asking everyone if they're enjoying the music.

But none of these things are getting us any closer to our goal, so Sam leaves the club.

And there's a trash can right outside, so Sam sandwiches it.

And a mildly-redundant trashcan at the junkyard.

And an even more redundant trashcan inside the junkyard!

Sam's out of sandwiches. Time to go talk to the lady who made them. Sam returns to the lab.

: I've placed the sensors. Now what?

oh please oh please

'Someone fluent': 'not you'. Resigning himself to the fact that he's not awesome enough at music, Sam updates his journal.

: Alexa said I also need someone good with music who is willing to listen to the sensors.

Someone good with music--wherever will we find this person?

Pfft. Straight back to Club Candy with us. Sam considers asking Candy herself to do it, but she's working at the turntables right now. Maybe her assistant Zack...?

: Do you have a moment to listen to something?

Zack is poking at one of Candy's speakers.

: Eh, I'm really busy...

: Alexa and I need someone to listen to the sensors we've placed.

and we need someone who's actually good at listening unlike Sam

: I can't do anything until the left speaker is fixed. We have a show tonight, and the last concert blew it out. So unless you can help that to go along faster, I'm sorry, I can't help you.

It's like people dare Sam to do this stuff. Zack goes back to poking at the speaker and Sam pulls out the notebook.

: Zack says that he doesn't have time to listen to the amplified sounds until the speaker is fixed. Can I help this process go faster?

Zack's got the salvaged speaker parts all piled up already, so Sam just hunkers down and gets stuck straight in.

Gosh, what can't you do with gears and belts these days?

There!

: OK, the speakers are hooked up. I should tell Zack, and then we can head up to the lab!

Sam sticks his notebook back in his pocket and heads down to the dance floor.

: I fixed the blown-out speaker for you!

: Oh man! That's awesome! Thanks so much!

: No problem! Now let's head up to the lab so that you can listen to those strange beats.

You know, Sam, he never actually said he'd go with you--

--guess it's a good thing he's so agreeable. Sam and Zack run up to Dr. F's lab, where Alexa is impatiently awaiting them.

As the door irises open, Alexa throws out her hands in a 'Well?!' gesture.

Sam waves, oblivious, and he and Zack head down. Alexa turns to Zack.

: OK, Zack. Are you ready?

She hands him a set of headphones and prepares to take notes. Zack bops around happily.

: Those are some nice beats!

He puts the 'phones back up to his ear.

: But can you tell where they're coming from?

Dramatic camera angle!

A spooky musical sting plays! Ooh-wee-ooh-waaaa!

Alexa gasps! Sam scribbles down this new information.

: Zack says the noise is coming from underground!

: The sensors said that the sound was underground. How do I get underground?

: Next time on MySims Agents: How indeed, pal. How indeed.
