Part 70: Ep. 47: Minigame Street

Forsooth posted:

This game is a fantastic Federal employee simulator. Send peons on any task that would be mildly inconvenient for you while you redecorate your office. Shelve important tasks to take extended lunch breaks to get your hair done. Find evidence of a crime important to another department, but do not bother to prevent it or even forward the information to anyone who might.

Sam was born for this line of work.

: Last time on MySims Agents: Derek is still a big meanie. In case you were wondering.

Maybe it's best not to take the things Mayor Skip says at face value. Sam decides to check in with some of the other residents of Main Street. Corroborating evidence, you know. Let's corroborate at Gino's!

: Have you seen any birds around?

: I have, Sam! I was talking to Patrick in his trailer about my new pizza idea! Super Pork Deluxe!! A whole pig on a pizza!

Gino's eyes go round with wonder.

: And then I saw a bird, carrying a piece of paper in its beak! It had made a nest on top of the girders.

: That might have been one of Poppy's letters... great! Thank you!

: Questions I should have asked: "I don't suppose this bird was... extremely huge, was it?"

Sam leaves Gino's and heads for the other side of town, pausing to check in with Luis on the way.

: Have you seen any birds outside the forest?

: Yes, I have! Over on the construction site! You could check with Patrick.

Also, with Rhonda.

: Have you seen any birds around?

: I have! I was getting my hair done at Shirley's salon and saw a big bird on the roof!

She specifies a 'big' bird! That makes the salon Sam's first priority.

: Oh really? On the roof?

: Exactly. I think you can talk to Shirley about getting up there, if you need to.

We've already been up there, of course. Still, best to let Shirley know what we're up to before we start clomping around on her roof, inviting shotgun-related deterrents.

: Hi Shirley. Have you seen any letters?

: No, but there's some racket going on up on my roof! Sounds like animals!

: Have you gone up to check it out? It might have something to do with my case.

: Oh, hon, you are so kind. These old knees could never climb up there. But you could probably make it. Go down the street, outside the construction site, and look for some crates to hop onto the roof.

Going up to check on Patrick's toolbox was an optional part of that earlier quest, so it's always possible that we might be new to the Salon Gauntlet and might therefore need this guidance. But we aren't, and we don't, because we were thorough.

Once we finish speaking to Shirley the camera does a slow pan from Sam, looking upwards, to the salon roof, then pans down the street to the pile of crates. That does not look like a giant nest. Have we got the wrong bird?

Sam updates his journal.

: How can I get up to Shirley's roof to find the source of the animal noises?

TAKE THE JET TAKE THE JET ahem

Sam runs down the street to the pile of crates. He's just about to start scrambling up when his phone rings.

... don't even start, Leaf.

We've seen this before. It hasn't changed.

And here we are. That is super not the same kind of bird's nest. Shenanigans!

And yet! Sam tucks that letter away with the other one and updates his notes.

: Looks like one of the letters ended up in this nest on top of Shirley's salon.

That's two. The third is in the construction site, right? Let's go talk to Patrick.

As soon as we enter the construction site, the camera pulls back to show us the third nest, aaaaaall the way up there--then zooms in on Patrick before returning to Sam.

We're getting our hands held pretty tightly in this section. Anyway! Let's talk to Patrick!

: Hey Patrick, how can I get up to that bird's nest?

: How can I do that?

: Well, you'll have to do a bunch of things. First, you'll need to find my crane keys!

And then you'll need to play a whole bunch of minigames!

: Where are they?

Poor long-suffering Sam. Patrick ambles off and Sam pulls out the notebook again.

: Where would Patrick put his crane keys around here to keep them safe?

But first... if we're going to be working in a construction site, we need to wear protective gear. Sam pops into Patrick's trailer and changes into appropriate garb.

And stomps on the model building again, because I will never stop finding that funny. And... hey, wait. Patrick's safe.

Well, it is 'somewhere safe'. Let's find out! Sam equips the Techno-Tool and starts fiddling with the lock's innards.

: Now to see if Patrick locked his keys in here...

Sam swings open the safe door.

Sam puts those in his overall pocket and notes the find.

: I should let Patrick know I recovered his keys.

Sam leaves the trailer and finds Patrick over by the bulldozer.

: OK! I got the keys. What next?

: Great work, sport! Now you'll need to power up the crane.

: How would I do that?

: The generator is in the basement of the building over there. You just need to flip it on!

: Great. Thanks!

: I've got to activate the generator in this half-constructed building.

Fortunately for us, we Manipulated up some crate stairways when we looted the site earlier. It's just a question of using those again.

Up the crates, over the top, and back down below.

welp

Sam dusts himself off.

: That should do it! The power is getting to the crane now.

: I should tell Patrick that I turned the power on!

Sam returns to the entrance.

: OK. I powered up the crane! What now?

: You'll need to fix the control panel. It got struck by lightning, sport!

: Where's the panel? Up that ladder?

Sam gestures to the huge ladder behind him.

I... but... you are terrible what kind of two-bit operation is this

I guess the kind that can only afford one employee

: Good to know. Thanks, "sport."

: Ha! I'm no sport, sport. You're the sport!

Sam sighs and updates his notes again.

No. No, he really shouldn't. But he's going to. Because he's Special Agent Sam, and he's a jerk.
