Part 70: Horror of Horrors

Well, okay, before we get to the top of the hill, there's a chest hidden back here in the thorn bushes with all the creepy glowing eyes.

Scary, Silver, and Voodoo Doll Essences, plus a figure of Violet for our collection.

Anyway. After we tidy that away, we head up the hill--

--and we are being watched.

: No matter. Nothing they've seen so far could prepare them for the horrors that lie just ahead.

More evil laughter (and possible flippings-off)!

Down below we crest the hill, unaware of the horrors to come. When we pause to rest:

: Wow. Zombie Carl looked really happy with his new swamp. I've never seen him like that.

: It feels good to help, doesn't it, Goth Boy?

: Whatever. Guy just looked happy is all I'm saying. The castle should be right through here...

Goth Boy turns to go...

... then smacks into something and falls over. Oh no! It's the horror!

: What the...

AAAAAAwait

: Is this an advertisement for COOKIES?!

Goth Boy turns around, much agitated.

: And how long has THAT place been there?!

ack buddy shh the fourth wall

: It's hideous!

: Hmmm... we're close to finding the ancient book, but I think this begs closer investigation.

Especially since that giant billboard is blocking the road to Castle Morcubus.

: Let's check out the inside, Sam!

Aww, a bunny mailbox.

: This can't be happening.

The kindly grandmotherly lady sniffs deeply of that fresh-baked cookie scent before greeting us.

: Welcome to Grandma Ruthie's cookie shop!

: Cookies!!!

: Ma'am, no offense, but what's someone like you doing in a dark and dreary place like Spookane?

: Oh, thank you, no offense taken.

: Wha...?

: Brand Recognition, dearie. Grandma Ruthie's Cookies are already the number one cookie in the cowboy and robot demographics, but we just don't have any market share in the spooky parts of the world.

: Wha...?

: Ruthie Co. is a publicly-owned and traded company, my dears.

: That's why I opened my newest franchise here in Spookane, but since I moved in, I haven't pushed a single unit.

That snaps Buddy out of it in a hurry, and he hurries over to get his cookie from Ruthie.

: Oh, I am sorry, but I simply cannot do that. All of our market research shows that aggressive advertising is the only way to reach our target customers.

: Uh, yeah, or you could try actually LISTENING to your customers to see what they want.

: Alright, let's see what one of your 'target customers' thinks.

Just then Yuki wanders in, presumably drawn by the shiny.

I don't think she likes it.

: What's up, Yuki?

: Afraid?!

: So bright! Too... many... colors...

And she bolts for the door.

: Spookies aren't really into the whole 'bright colors' thing. Look, if you want to do this right, you're going to need my help.

Goth Boy turns to the rest of us.

: Alright, guys, we need to makeover Grandma Ruthie. I've got a Scroll that should give you just what this place needs.

: Am I hearing this right? Goth Boy wants to help somebody?

: Well, yeah, but... only so she can take down that sign.

: Whatever you say, Goth Boy.

Goth Boy hands over some Scrolls. Silver, Gold, and Voodoo Dolls... no problem.

Jade, Dead Wood, and Eyeballs. Also not a problem.

In fact, we already have enough to finish off the first Scroll.

: Oh, this stuff looks so cool!

Sam gets access to a Spooky Skull--the same stone skulls that were at Carl's place--a decorative Spike, a Pirate Skull wallhanging, a Monster Fireplace and Fireplace Ledge, and a Gargoyle.

The second Scroll will require a little more work, though. Let's head out.

Yuki is hiding over here between these trees, completely traumatized.

Collecting what we need is simple; it mostly involves running back and forth between the two Eyeball trees, harvesting and watering.

: Oh, this stuff looks so cool!

Sam gets a spiky Iron Fence, a Petite Base Block, a Stacked Block Column, a Gothic Patio, a Spooky Pillar, a Gothic Entryway, a Gothic Roof Gargoyle, a Gothic Crenellation--I'm sensing a theme, you guys--a Gothic Door, Gothic Mansard Roofs in both regular and Petite, Gothic Windows in regular, Roof, and Octagon, and some Haunted House Paints.

Let's do this.
