Part 51: Fall of the Crown Recap

Previously on Myth III

Moagim killed the Emperor, even though we defended against his attack.

While Corbeau likes this level, I feel kind of neutral about it. Doing this level by yourself is really taxing. It's a level similar to Gates of Myrgard and Siege of Llancarfan except you're getting attacked from all sides and any time. I do like the traditional gameplay aspects of it, and that trying to move away from the camp results in you finding extra groups of soulless that you otherwise wouldn't have to fight. I said in the video I'd picture-in-picture some stuff, but when I got around to doing it I realized all we're missing is Berserks and Heron Guard attacking Thrall and Forgotten, and it wasn't really worth the effort to see something not all that exciting.

Interesting story about this - I've mentioned many times in video a plugin to make my units invincible. A guy (GodzFire) on The Tain website originally made this plugin, but it didn't work because of this level. Moagim needs to kill the four Heron Guard and the Emperor at the beginning, but he can't if they're invincible. GodzFire tried to fix this by modifying the mesh file of the level, to remove the Heron Guards at the beginning. However modifying the mesh files breaks the plugin somehow making it not work.

I was really hoping to get this plugin to work so I could explore levels before I play them for the LP, so once I found out Corbeau knew how to make plugins I asked him to fix it. He found the problem with meshes, so his job was now to find a way to kill invincible units by modifying only the abilites of units. He couldn't touch the map or mesh file. So how'd he do it? He did this:

In case you can't figure it out  Corbeau flipped a flag making Moagim attack using Tain-type damage, so Moagim sucks invincible units into his Tainblade.  I found that hilarious when found out what he did.

The Emperor is dead. Long live the Emperor.

I was really surprised we did this level with no casualties; I was expect this to be much harder. Legendary didn't even prove all that much of a challenge. Although the video you watched was the second attempt at the mission...

Emperor Leitrim

I have no idea why the Emperor is a full-fledged unit with flavor text and everything. Maybe it has to do with multiplayer? He'd work well in "Assassin" game modes, but no one ever really plays those modes.

"...Clovis the Wise, First Emperor of the Cath Bruig, founded the empire during the Age of Reason. It's capital was the fortress of Llancarfan, far south from the icy lands of the Trow. For two millennia the Cath Bruig empire has been the center of knowledge and prosperity - its banner a symbol of humanity united..."

"...He was nineteen, and his father lay dying. The Ibis crown, worn upon the emperor's brow for decades, now rested on a silver pillow. The whisper raised from the emperor's throat - 'be just...' - was his last. Leitrim grieved as he was given the crown to wear. He was nineteen, and he was now emperor..."
