Part 4

The trail:

Courtroom dramas must be really boring in 2058.

Ah, feels good to be back on the streets. I'd forgotten how much fun being a cowboy is. I wonder how old Larry is doing, maybe he can hook us up with some softs.

LARRY'S is one of Chiba's dubious software stores. The walls are lined with slivers of microsoft, spikes of colored silicon mounted on cardboard for display. The shaved head of Larry Moe, with a dozen microsofts protruding from the carbon socket behind his left ear, is visible behind the counter.

Oh well, we're pretty decked out anyway, there's one more database soft we need but we'll get that later.

That's cheap, we'll get that and go buy a doughnut.

...what a useful chip! Back to court I guess.

Wait, he fell for it?

Never in my 7 years in Eire have I ever heard anyone say Begorrah

Sweet! We don't have the linkcodes for the two others and we don't know the password to the first, but information is information, that's like cowboy currency.

This is Shiva's standard greeting appearently.

Molly didn't have a problem with Case living there in the book?

I failed to capture the description as you enter this room as you get kicked out when you enter without a pass. SORRY!

This is Emperor Norton and his pal who I never quite figured out who is. They're proper cowboys. This might seem like just atmospheric chatter, but we'll do well to take to mind what they're talking about.

Some bases in cyberspace have AIs that pop up when you break the first layer of ICE and they can fry you bad. If you get fried by an AI, you flatline and die. Con is too much of a pro to keep a joeboy around to pull the plug. The comment about Bosch is also of note, another of Con's old friends looks like he could be in trouble!

That's a tad dear. We'll eventually need just about every skill in the game, but right now we need to save up for a decent deck.

I've tried just about every keyword on these lads, but all I've ever gotten apart from some upgrades is this response. So it's up to Con to sort things out.

You're in a narrow canyon of impacted scrap in Metro Holografix when you meet Finn, the owner, whose head looks like it was designed in a wind tunnel.

I'm going in here because I need a soft to break passwords, now I couldn't remember the name of it so I'm messing around with other things for a while.

This is all cyberspace software, we need it, but not yet.

Maybe he can help us with this stupid quest?

Score, he only charges us 20 credits for it, which is cheap for two new skills.

We'll pop back at to the hotel and catch up on the news, check our account.

edition.<

As FulsomFrank mentioned, the defenders just take your money and declare you guilty.

So maybe we did do something, but trying to meet Armitage wasn't illegal us such!

He came through though, he really did. Since he was caught, we'll assume the deal is off and spend the money.

You find Julius Deane's office in a warehouse behind Ninsei. You get the impression that Julius has a gun pointed at you under the desk.

This exchange has nothing to do with the plot of the game, if I'm not mistaken Case asked Zone about this in the book pretty early on, but so far Con hasn't gotten himself into any trouble.

Adventure game. We buy.

We'll probably buy these later!

We upgrade to skill level 3 for now, that'll help us decode the passwords the cop gave us.

Next time: We go the massage parlour!
