Part 2: Neverwinter Nights 2

Previously, on Neverwinter Nights 2

Thousands of years ago...

Two heroes, Gith and Zerthimon, lead their people in rebellion against their oppressors, the illithid. They are victorious, but ideological differences cause the band to split up. Gith takes her Silver Sword and huffs off to the Nine Hells, where she disappears forever.

Hundreds of years ago...

The world of Abeir-Toril is dominated by magical empires. The dwarves and elves of Illefarn decide to one-up their neighbours by creating the Guardian, a tireless, unceasing, all-powerful construct dedicated to the preservation of Illefarn. Determined not to be outdone, Karsus of Netheril tries to become God.

He fails spectacularly, temporarily ridding the world of all magic, and in so doing transforms the Guardian of Illefarn into the crazed King of Shadows. The newly-crowned King almost destroys Illefarn, but at the last moment is imprisoned behind a seal that was set to expire about, ooh...

Twenty years ago...

The King of Shadows emerges from his prison and wreaks havoc upon the world. Illefarn is now the kingdom of Neverwinter but that doesn't stop His Royal Highness from raising an army of the dead and sacking towns up and down the Sword Coast.

This behaviour is objected to by Ammon Jerro, court wizard and general asshole, who summons an army of fiends and tries to stop the King of Shadows (primarily by sacking towns before the King can get to them). One of his minions gives him the Silver Sword of Gith, which he uses to violently banish the King of Shadows back to his prison in a climactic battle in the village of West Harbor. Unfortunately in the process he shatters the Silver Sword and transports himself to the Nine Hells as well.

Yesterday...

Through a series of hilarious coincidences, callow youth and sociopath Calliope becomes Knight-Captain of Neverwinter and the only person who can stand in the way of a resurrected King of Shadows. Part of this is due to having a shard of the Silver Sword of Gith stuck in her chest.

With aid from her companions and friends, Calliope uncovers the truth behind the King of Shadows, reforges the Silver Sword of Gith and sees off the King of Shadows' undead legions with an army of her own. She then descends deep into the ruins of an ancient Illefarn temple and confronts the King of Shadows for the last time.

She is successful, but it turns out HRH was a Load-Bearing Boss and destroying him causes the temple to collapse. No trace of her is ever found.

Until now, that is.
