Persona 3 Portable

Part 40: 6/9/09

6/9/09

It’d be nice if these big Shadows wouldn’t show up when we have school the next day.

Do you think Mitsuru-senpai saved Fuuka because it was the right thing to do?
Or was it just because she’s a Persona-user and we need her…?
For the right reasons.
I-I guess so.
……
Well, whether or not she joins us is up to her…
Sorry to bring this up out of the blue.

I was feeling kind of ill, so I went to the nurse. Big mistake, that.

Well now, what do we have here? You seem unwell. Is it a wound? A virus? A curse? Or is it love?
This is the perfect opportunity to try my new concoction… Ehehehehehehe.
> Mr. Edogawa has a huge grin on his face.
Here, try this…
It includes bitter mugwort, poison carrot, henbane, jujube, rabbit’s foot, etcetera, etcetera…
Even Hakusan’s finest alchemist would be astonished by the ingredients.
I shall treat your illness right here and now.
Now, drink this… Come on… Drink up!
> The most bizarre smell that you’ve ever encountered in your life is drifting out of the bottle…
> After drinking the concoction, your condition doesn’t seem to be any better…
…Phew, well done.
Whether or not you get better is inconsequential… You survived!
Cheers to your bravery. …Sorry to have deceived you.
Hm, if you’ll excuse me, Saturn is calling…

Since that didn’t help at all, I went down to the café with Yukari. I must be seriously beat, though, because even coffee didn’t help.

Hahaha! What happened then? …And then?
> You hung out with Yukari for a while. The bond between you seems to be growing.
> It’s getting dark out.
> You decide to go back to the dorm.

Akihiko and Mitsuru weren’t around when I got back.

Mitsuru-senpai and Akihiko-senpai are going to the hospital to see Fuuka today.
I wonder how she’s doing…
Oh, by the way…
Ikutsuki-san told me that the antique shop in Paulownia Mall is open now.
Maybe we should go check it out sometime.

I wasn’t sure at first how an antique shop could help us either.

Ikutsuki-san said the owner would help us out.
How the hell can an antique shop owner help us out?
Unless she has this amazing item created a million years ago that can annihilate Shadows…
Yeah, I’m sure that’s what it is…
Just ignore him… But yeah, you should really check it out.
Don’t forget, it’s located inside Paulownia Mall.

But it’s not like we could go to Tartarus tonight.

…so we won’t be going to Tartarus tonight.

Not that I really wanted to, I’m way too tired. I’m just glad we dealt with those big Shadows.

Narrator: The fight between those with umbrellas and the driving wind is still being waged today…
Newscaster: That was our special report.
Next the news, followed by a look at everyone in recovery from the Apathy Syndrome.

Anyway with nothing better to do I headed down to the antique shop. The owner knows an awful lot about what’s going on.

Owner: Officer Kurosawa tells me you’re fighting against the Shadows.
To the public, this is merely an antique shop… but privately, I create weapons.
They’re not ordinary equipment, however. My methods involve fusing weapons with Personas.
But you’ll need a material to assist in the process… such as Void Naginata or Nihil Gloves…
I’ll give you one for free, to start out with. Here you go.
> Obtained Void Naginata.
Owner: From now on, you’ll need to find your own. The golden Shadows carry such materials.
There’s another thing you should know, though I’m still researching it, so I’m not certain of this…
Depending on the Persona you use in the fusion, you can create special weapons.
All I can tell you is to experiment for yourself.
…Ah, I nearly forgot.
If you bring me jewels, I’ll trade the goods I carry here for them.

Feinne’s Fourth Wall Lectures: Antiquing
The Antique Shop is useful in a few ways. Let’s talk about Weapon Fusion, which was new to FES and returns here. It’s really a simple process. We start with a Void/Nihil <weapon>, which will determine what sort of weapon we end up with. Then we pick a Persona from our stock. The base level of the Persona determines the weapon’s strength, while the Arcana of the Persona determines what else the weapon does. I’ll go into more detail on this in a separate post.

However, as the Owner hinted, certain Personas actually give us special results. In this case it doesn’t matter what sort of blank weapon we use, the result will always be the same. This is how we get the best weapons in the game, so it’s worth it to take advantage of weapon fusion.

We can also trade the gems we get from Tartarus for Skill Cards, cards that improve stats, and valuable items including Fusion spells here. The Antique Shop is probably the most useful store there is overall and we’ll be getting things from here once we’ve got the means to do so. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Oh and that creep Tanaka was back.

We ran into a bit of a snag again. Some of the other investors decided to drop out…
Since there are fewer investors, each person’s profits will be even bigger! Do you mind investing a bit more?
Just 10,000 yen more. That should be plenty!
Are you in?
Yes.
> You gave the man 10,000 yen.
……
My foolish little apprentice…
Have you not yet realized that you are being deceived? Everything I’ve said has clearly been suspicious!
* sigh *
Ignorance should be a crime.
Sure, you have some positive qualities, but if you remain so naïve, everyone will take advantage of you.
…Stick with me, and I’ll show you how to be a winner.

I knew I recognized him from somewhere.

Could you be…?
* sigh * Yes, it’s so very difficult being famous… I can’t hardly go anywhere without being recognized.
I’m sure you’ve seen the home-shopping program called “Tanaka’s Amazing Commodities”…
Allow me to introduce myself…
> The well-dressed man handed you a business card.
> It says “President & Executive Producer Tanaka.”
That’s right! I’m Tanaka. Surely you’ve heard the name.
I’m afraid I cannot return the 40,000 yen you gave me, but I’ve autographed my business card for you.
Hold on to that… It’ll be worth a pretty penny. Tootaloo.

Oh, did I mention he’s a total asshole?

> …But then he sat on the nearby bench and began mumbling to himself…
That little brat… Doesn’t she realize she’s in the presence of a star!?
I should have charged her extra for a private autograph signing…
> It seems he’s mumbling about you…
I can hear you.
Huh!? Wh-What do you want!? Quit disturbing me! Shoo, shoo!
…D-Did you overhear me talking to myself!?
You’ll forget it ever happened if you know what’s good for you. I belong to a powerful talent agency.
I’m practically a celebrity. I have an image to maintain…
Don’t even think about telling someone “He took my money” or “He called me a little brat”! Capiche!?
I understand.
…Honesty won’t get you anywhere in life. You’d best learn that now, kid.
…Silly me! I’ve let you in on my secret, haven’t I? Tee hee hee.
Don’t tell anyone, okay!?

When he started getting worried that I’d tell someone what happened things got even weirder.

I’ll keep it a secret.
S-Seriously? You promise? I’ll make you swallow a thousand needles if you’re lying!
A verbal agreement is considered a contract, and I’ll sue your pants off if you breach ours!
I’ve got your adorable little face etched into my memory.
> He seems to have taken an interest in you.
> You’ve become acquainted with President Tanaka, the Executive Producer of a TV shopping program.

Seriously if I figure out who decided I was supposed to spend time with this guy I’m going to beat the hell out of them.

But to tell you the truth, you might shine with a little polishing.
I sense that you’re something more than your average pretty girl.
What you need in this world is brains. Without brains, you can’t climb to the top.
I usually take my breaks here. I’d be happy to mold your young mind whenever you wish.
> After saying goodbye to President Tanaka, you decided to go back to the dorm.

I mean is vast supernatural power really worth it?
