Part 40: End of the Raging North Winds

Update 32: End of the Raging North Winds

Ecruteak City

I heard there was justification of a third version nearby. Let's go check it out.

m8, you're still blocking the way.

"to leave."

: .................. Ah! The sound of that CLEAR BELL! It... It's sublime! I've never heard so beautiful a sound before! That bell's chime is indicative of the bearer's soul. You... You may be able to make it through TIN TOWER. Please, do go on.

Been a while since I've seen this many old men down a back passage.

: Legend has it that upon the emergence of a trainer who has the ability to touch the souls of POKéMON, a POKéMON will come forth to put that trainer to test at the TIN TOWER. The legend has come true! The legendary POKéMON SUICUNE has arrived! We, the WISE TRIO, shall test your worthiness to go inside!

So, souls of Pokemon? Test? Legendary Pokemon? I just got a bell, I don't feel like I'm the one true successor, or whatever. Still, extra experience!

Half of this update is gonna be like old men talking at us about destiny and bullshit. Like every other magical girl anime.

"while they slept?"

: Unbelievable! Legend has it that they can't be seen while they sleep...

Oh, hi there.

Can't me beating up your friend be enough to gain your trust?

Finally, Kakarott, sheesh.

Now it's actually useful again, cause man it was falling behind.

"towers here."

: The BRASS TOWER, which was said to awaken POKéMON, and the TIN TOWER, where POKéMON were said to rest. The view from the tops of the TOWERS must have been significant. At the time, an immense, silver-colored POKéMON was said to make its roost atop the BRASS TOWER.

: About 150 years ago, a lightning bolt struck one of the TOWERS. It was engulfed in flames that raged for three days. A sudden downpour finally put out the blaze. And that is how the BURNED TOWER came to be.

Whaaaaaaaaat nooooooooooow?

Fiiiiiiiiiiine. Here's my flaming badger.

Neat. Reflect (Rifurekutā: Reflector) is a Psychic status move with 20PP that lasts 5 turns and reduces physical damage by half for the entire team. It's an excellent move that will become more useful with the Light Clay in a couple generations. Under the right circumstances, it might make your team freaking unkillable. For a few turns.

A big problem with Body Slam is that it paralyzes. That's bad specifically in this gen where we might accidentally paralyze a Pokemon we want to catch, instead of putting it to sleep and boosting the catch rate.

If you challenge me to another battle I swear to god...

: I see... We, the WISE TRIO, have been given the responsibility of protecting the legendary POKéMON. We are to allow passage only to those people who possess the power and soul of truth. Please, do go on and enter the TIN TOWER ahead. SUICUNE will put you to the test.

Alright...

Our first legendary of the game.

"roost here."

It is a highly excellent idea to save here. You don't get no second chances for legendaries until Platinum. Good luck.

Tin Tower

VS Legendary Beast VS Suicune

HP: 100 | ATK: 75 | DEF: 115 | SP.ATK: 90 | SP.DEF: 115 | SPD: 85 | TOTAL: 580
#240: Suicune

Suicune is a bit of a tough cookie, being very defensive and with a low catch rate. Thankfully, it has no recovery, so it's only a matter of time.

This will become Jeremiah's MO if the wild Pokemon either can't survive a hit, or resists Surf. Really don't want to paralyze the Pokemon I'm trying to catch.

I'm also glad Suicune has fuck all for moves.

I wonder how many heart attacks Jeremiah has given me over the course of this LP. And how many she has yet to give me. But this is basically perfect, it might as well be at 1 health. However, even with everything going my way, I only have a 6% chance of catching this thing with an Ultra Ball. So, here we go.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I should've bought some more Ultra Balls, but that's why I saved beforehand. Still, got plenty of Great Balls, which only lowers my chance to 5.5%, so it's not a big deal.

And, well, there we go. Easy enough.

Alright, now the next two dogs are gonna pop out and challenge me in the same way... right?

Eusine's Theme

Oh hey Eusine and various old men.

: I've never seen a battle that great. That was truly inspiring to see. SUICUNE was tough, but you were even more incredible, MARINA. I heard SUICUNE's mystic power summons a rainbow-colored POKéMON.

: I'm going to study the legends more. Thanks for showing me that fantastic battle. Later, MARINA!

Tin Tower

: However... A rainbow-colored POKéMON... In other words... HO-OH descended from the sky and gave new life to the three POKéMON. They are... SUICUNE, ENTEI and RAIKOU. That is what they say.

: When the souls of POKéMON and humans commune, from the heavens descends a POKéMON of rainbow colors... Could it mean the legendary POKéMON are testing us humans?

: That was 700 years ago, but the ideal still remains today.

Mahogany Town

Well that was a lot of fun, but now it's time to continue our journey... next update. Cause we're gonna finish off with something special. That's right, it's time for Jeremiah's evolution. So what are we gonna choose? We have the items necessary to evolve it into either Poliwrath or Politoed. Using a Water Stone is easy enough, but using the King's Rock requires us to trade. That's pretty difficult on an emulator and we've never done anything like that previously right?

Pokemon Communication Center

Wrong. Welcome back to Japanese Crystal. Our ol' boy Kenta is gonna help us evolve Jeremiah into a Politoed.

And a 可愛い to you too, miss.

We still need to do this, even though we're trading with another Crystal game. I don't get it. Still, this should be fine, right?

Wait, what?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So this is some random twat from English Gold. He's going to help me evolve Jeremiah into Politoed. The different characters between Japanese games and other, Latin using games causes the horrific breakdown, since unlike later games, they're only programmed with the one set of characters, or a limited amount.

The fairest of trades.

HP: 90 | ATK: 75 | DEF: 75 | SP.ATK: 90 | SP.DEF: 100 | SPD: 70 | TOTAL: 500
#075: Politoed

No. Perish Song (Horobi no Uta) is a Normal status move with 5PP that gives all Pokemon on the field a Perish count that starts at 3 and ticks down by 1 each turn. When it reaches 0, the Pokemon faints, no matter what. You can get around the count by switching out, which is something the AI doesn't really do. Overall, it can be pretty useful, but Jeremiah does not have a moveslot to spare.

Good to have you back, bullfrog. For other trade evolutions, I probably won't bother doing all this hassle and just catch them in the wild in appropriate places.

But we're not done just yet. Our first two Pokemon haven't been too useful for a good chunk of the game due to stats and movepool, so we need to change that.

It's finally time to add in the punching moves to our repertoire. Kakarott could really benefit from another special move to help him cover certain types, like Water.

Of course, Jeremiah gets the Ice move to help with, well, a lot of things, but more specifically Grass types as well as a type we're gonna be seeing a lot of pretty soon.

And finally, we might as well get the other two starters. Progress!

I'm feeling a lot more prepared for the road ahead and I'm just itching to beat something up.

Lake of Rage

: That is our destiny.

Oh look, a volunteer.

Look at this fucking smug as fuck frog. I love it.

Everything's coming up MARINA.

Love you too.

And on those words of wisdom, we'll end it there. Next time, after all this dumb and distracting plot stuff, it's time to move on to new locations. Smell ya!
