Part 47: Waterfalling Around

Update 38: Waterfalling Around

Indigo Plateau

Indigo Plateau hasn't really changed much since we were last here. Though everything has been mirrored for whatever reason.

We could face the Elite Four now, but I won't, cause we're not ready juuuuuuust yet.

We have all the items you could ever need, so get stocked up!

: If you need to train some more, my ABRA can help you. It can TELEPORT you home. Would you like to go home now?

Not just yet, we still have a few things left to do in Johto, but do know that if you teleport back, you need to go all the way back through Routes 26 and 27 to get back here, so be sure you want to go back.

Victory Road

Sixth team member time, let's go.

HP: 105 | ATK: 130 | DEF: 120 | SP.ATK: 45 | SP.DEF: 45 | SPD: 40 | TOTAL: 485
#207: Rhydon

Alright, we have our team filled out! Sure I could've caught ...Kamina? last update, but we can immediately head out with ...Kamina? for some fun times. This is also why we're not taking on the Elite Four, I want to spend some time with our new member before we go all serious.

Let's fix its movepool.

Much better.

"mind..."

Back to Johto!

Now for some little bits and pieces. Waterfall is a fine move and means I don't have to shift around too many Pokemon to keep it on our team. ...Kamina? won't need that fourth move slot anyway, so I'm fine with it knowing Surf.

Now to head off to Mt. Mortar, as we're gonna be going up some waterfalls in this update.

Did anyone notice that I didn't catch Fearow on this route, even though I totally could've? Well a year ago I got some real nice information that I've been waiting to act on.

I like my brick jokes nice and long.

Let's move on.

Mt. Mortar

Let's explore the top back cave. Some cool things for us back here, make sure you have a Pokemon slot free!

I know there's someone that called themselves Markus that got really freaked out by this guy.

Alright, this isn't the best first fight for ...Kamina?, but something about this battle seems familiar somehow.

Geez that hurt.

"pal's gone AWOL."

: Have you seen a trainer who has a SLOWPOKE that can use STRENGTH?

Hmm. No. Not that I recall.

There's a lot of small pools of water in this cave, which might be modelled after the volcano this place is based on, Mt. Suribachi. Probably not.

Just a load of items and water. Fun times in the cave.

Two things. WHY is this a TM and WHY do we find it in a practically postgame area???

Boop.

Oh neat, now we can evolve Seadra into Kingdra. This item also boosts Dragon moves by 10%, instead of the Dragon Fang due to a bug. Whoops!

Alright, now we head down.

Establishing shot, item pickup. Repeat until boring cave is done.

Item finding, to the max!

Back in the basement.

: I am the KARATE KING! I train alone here in the dark! You! Battle with me! Hwaaarggh!

In the deep depths of the deep we find a karate master. Again, this isn't the best fight for ...Kamina? but he should be fine.

Already I have high hopes for this absolute monster. Hi Jump Kick (Tobihizageri: Jumping Knee Kick) is a Fighting move with 85BP, 20PP and 90% accuracy that now has the user take damage equal to the damage it would've done if it hit. That doesn't make it too amazing anymore, but it's still a good Fighting move. You also crash if the opponent uses Protect or Detect.

It tries in vain, but it cannot, will not, stop the pain train. Mach Punch (Mahha Panchi) is a Fighting move with 40BP, 30PP and 100% accuracy that has +1 priority. It's a pretty useful move that right now has terrible distribution.

: My training is still not enough... But a loss is a loss, I admit it. As proof that you defeated me, I'll give you a rare fighting POKéMON.

: It evolves into a tougher POKéMON. Keep up the hard work. I'll keep training too. Farewell!

HP: 35 | ATK: 35 | DEF: 35 | SP.ATK: 35 | SP.DEF: 35 | SPD: 35 | TOTAL: 210
#143: Tyrogue

Tyrogue's method of evolution is interesting, but I'll talk it about later, during some quiet time. Oh will there be some of that in the last third of the LP.

Gonna buy some Revival Herbs, finally. So expensive, but so good.

Anyway, our second area we're visiting in this update is the Whirl Islands. Sure we can't do everything we want here, but we can fully explore this place and get some sweet items and Pokemon. So it's worth it.

We'll start on the south-west island since the layout of the dungeon is pretty simple, so it's not as big and sprawling as you might think. It's also the only island to hide an item on the outside.

Whirl Islands

Need a fair few HMs to explore, but we don't need to bring the full team anyway.

Going straight down the ladder leads straight to a dead end. Neat.

We'll cross the water and get some balls.

And then we end up at the south-east island. They both link to each other but it's overall a dead end. So very quickly we've explored half of the Whirl Islands already. See, easy?

Next up is the north-west island, since the north-east island is where you want to go to quickly head to the deepest depths.

Nice and stocked for the Elite Four.

It is cool having these dungeons to explore to get items and that, but if you want to train for the Elite Four then, uh, you just need to hit your head against wild Pokemon. Sure, there's the Pokegear rematches, but you need to battle the same trainer multiple times to actually face good teams. So how useful that is is gonna vary.

My hunt for all the items continue. Isn't this interesting? I hope so, these LPs feed my kids.

We can head further south and be back at the dead end of the bottom two islands, but we can still connect to the north-east island from here.

However, coming up from this way is a dead end. If you want to reach the last part of the dungeon, then you need to come in from the north-east island. But before we do that, I'm gonna get a Pokemon.

This is our first opportunity to actually catch Seel. A crying shame, really.

Let's see what else is here.

For that, we need the water, which we can find by hopping up.

We don't need to go much further, since all that's beyond the waterfall is an empty room, but in the water is a new Pokemon.

I would say it's one of our old team, but we just went straight for Seadra, never used a Horsea in Yellow.

And that's about it for the Whirl Islands. But of course we'll be coming back here later.

: Thanks for using my STORAGE SYSTEM. That last POKéMON you sent filled the BOX up. You'll have to switch BOXES if you want to catch more POKéMON. Bye now!

I'm glad he can reach us even deep in a pitch black cave. Good thing we're not catching the dwelling legendary then!

Finally for this update is something you all knew was coming. We have all the tools we need to evolve a Seadra. Or more specifically Aquamemnon!

Pokemon Center

For that end, we're back to using Gold as our trading partner. This will be for the last time though, I'm just going to catch trade evolutions in future, this way is just too time consuming to bother with.

Truly a fair trade.

Sniff, they grow up so fast.

And back it comes. Sure, this means that Aquamemnon can never return to Yellow anymore, but I wouldn't trade back anyway and since I copied the save files, our Yellow team are still there, forever.

But since we consumed the Dragon Scale, there's no way to boost Dragon moves anymore. Whoops!

Since I'm doing this trading stuff, let's connect back up to Yellow and show off something you might want to do so certain Pokemon don't suck.

Just need to get rid of Scary Face and ...Kamina? is eligible to go to the past. Mothra could also go back, but that'd require getting rid of Sludge Bomb, which is a terrible idea.

The whole reason to do this is to teach it Rock Slide, which it can't learn aside from breeding. What do you mean I already used that TM on Wukong? Shhhhhhhh.

But did you notice that there was one thing I didn't do in Yellow? I know, I'm absolutely terrible, since I forgot about a trade!

I can't believe I forgot about the WORST TRADE IN THE SERIES, but I'm fixing it now.

Yes it is.

Now this trade isn't a bad one since the Pokemon you get from it is pretty rad, but it's the worst one in the series since before we can even reach this trade's location, you can ALREADY catch a Dugtrio in the Diglett's Cave and have to wait until the very end of the entire game to actually catch a Lickitung. So really, what is the point of this trade? It's hilarious, but if you want a high level Dugtrio, then here you go.

But with that all done, I think we're finally ready to take on the Elite Fo- oh wait, there's actually some HGSS stuff to cover first. So after THAT, we'll take on the Elite Four. Definitely. I'm pretty sure there's nothing else to go over after that. Cool!
