Part 61: Back to Start

Update 47: Back to Start

Rival Challenge

Oh that's the sharp edges I was feeling. Though at the same time, they seem a bit duller than usual.

: ...Since I lost to you, I thought about what I was lacking with my POKéMON... And we came up with an answer. MARINA, now we'll show you!

Rival Battle

Terran's back and sporting a new battle sprite! Does that make him in any way a challenge to us now that we're in Kanto?

The fact that I said Kanto should tell you the answer.

So since this is another uninteresting rival battle, we'll just skip around it. I don't feel like I'm missing much, any rival battle aside from the last one are never really that impressive anyway.

His team could also be good, but he's still got terrible movesets and unevolved Pokemon.

But at least he finally traded with someone!

That'll do.

: I though I raised my POKéMON to be the best they could be... ...But it still wasn't enough...

Rival Challenge

: ...You won, fair and square. I admit it. But this isn't the end. I'm going to become the greatest POKéMON trainer ever. Because these guys are behind me. ...Listen, MARINA. One of these days I'm going to prove how good I am by beating you.

Wow, he's slowly changing for the better. I'm almost starting to like the guy.

Mt. Moon

Mt. Moon was an entire update in the last LP, can't wait to see how big and expansive it's gotten two years later.

Mt. Moon Square

Ooh, well this place is new and kinda interesting.

It's, uh, a bit empty though.

Let's see what else is here in this cave.

...o-oh, that's it? That's the entirety of Mt. Moon? Cool

Okay, admittedly there is a bit more to this place, but not much. First, let's come back when the shop is actually open.

Sooooo, quick way to buy vending machine drinks and a unique mail, but that's about it.

Now if we come back on a Monday night...

We interrupt a mating ritual.

And if we smash the rock, we can find a hidden Moon Stone. You can do this every Monday night as many times as you want, meaning Moon Stones are infinite! Which is good cause you need 4 of the damn things.

Route 4

Well, while Mt. Moon didn't have much to it, it had something new, so that's fine with me. It's just cut content that I don't like.

Oh yeah, we're back to normal trainers. Yay.

You need to head there right now!

"battle with me?"

Okay, the level curve in this game is getting a bit silly.

: That's how to do it.

Last trainer of the route.

Okay

Well that was a lot of fun, let's tie up one more loose end.

"Thanks!"

We're nearly done with trades in this game.

This Crystal only trade gives us another Metal Coat to use, meaning you don't have to trade from another game to get a second one.

Otherwise, pretty bog standard.

Before we head to new places, it's time for an Egg interlude.

We've now got all the Pokemon necessary to make babies, so thankfully we're nearly done.

HP: 45 | ATK: 63 | DEF: 37 | SP.ATK: 65 | SP.DEF: 55 | SPD: 95 | TOTAL: 360
#154: Elekid

One baby left!

Route 2

Let's properly explore this route by heading into the empty husk that is Viridian Forest. Yaaaaaay?

All that's in here is a bunch of items. Wasn't that dungeon fun?

Still lots of goodies of the right side of the route, so we'll backtrack slightly.

: I work as PROF. OAK's AIDE. I had no idea that you were out here. PROF. OAK's LAB is nearby in PALLET TOWN.

: You're the first visitor I've had in a long time. I'm super-happy! Let me give you a little present.

: I can't give you any nuggets of wisdom, so that'll have to do!

Bugs bugs bugs

: I love how they feel!

"lose!"
"POKéMON."

These bug catchers we beat up 3 years ago never left it seems.

Viridian City

We're almost back at the beginning, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do in this city.

: I need to talk to someone, so you'll have to do! I might not look like much now, but I was an expert of catching POKéMON.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, did you multiply items or something? Sure, yeah.

I could really use 128 Master Balls about now...

GIOVANNI??? No, that's not right...

"until recently."

: A young man from PALLET became the LEADER, but he's often away.

It's Oak, isn't it?

Hmm, in a moment.

: I must have dozed off in the sun. ...I had his dream about a DROWZEE eating my dream. Weird, huh? Huh? What's this? Where did this TM come from? This is spooky! Here, you can have this TM.

: TM42 contains DREAM EATER... ...Zzzzz...

Alright, let's now enter this newfangled institution.

: We're open to trainers only. You can battle against the best of the best right downstairs.

Let's go then.

: You may battle a trainer once per day. CAL is your opponent today. Would you like to battle?

Sounds dangerous, let's do it!

: Please go right through. You may begin right away.

"could battle you."

Okay, that's definitely interesting, haven't had a trainer use one of those before.

And I'm quite glad.

Are you starting to see the pattern?

Still, it's the most challenge we've faced for a while and it's an interesting team.

But of course there's still more to this place, a lot more than you'd think.

Let's change a few things and see what happens.

Trainer Battle (Kanto) VS PKMN Trainer Carrie

The main feature of the Trainer House is being able to refight trainers via Mystery Gift. If you do nothing with Mystery Gift, like most of you will, then you'll only fight Trainer Cal and his three starters. However, if you do use Mystery Gift, then that person will be here with an exact copy of their team.

But there's one very special trainer you could Mystery Gift with if you have no one else and that's Carrie in Pokemon Stadium 2. If she's the last person you did Mystery Gift with via the Transfer Pak, then she has 3 teams she could face you with. We're using the second team since it's more well rounded and has a couple Pokemon we haven't seen before. The other two teams can be found here if you were curious.

How exactly am I facing her though? Obviously I'm not doing it the legit way, I just edited the Trainers using a program I found, it really is that easy!

While most of her Pokemon aren't particularly interesting, there are two that I wanna see.

HP: 85 | ATK: 80 | DEF: 90 | SP.ATK: 105 | SP.DEF: 95 | SPD: 60 | TOTAL: 515
#216: Porygon2

Sharpen (Kakubaru: Improve Angles) is a Normal status move, with 30PP that raises the user's Attack by one stage. Guess you don't have Swords Dance, huh?

It manages to work out, cause Mothra ain't the most defensive tank. But time to move on to the next Poke of interest.

HP: 70 | ATK: 130 | DEF: 100 | SP.ATK: 55 | SP.DEF: 80 | SPD: 65 | TOTAL: 500
#111: Scizor

Well that patches up your lacklustre speed.

Congrats on picking the worst Steel type move. Out of two. Metal Claw (Metaru Kurō) is a Steel move with 50BP, 35PP and 95% accuracy that has a 10% chance of raising the user's Attack by one stage. Yes it's a worse Meteor Mash, but that move doesn't exist yet, so shhhhh.

...Kamina? nearly doomed my whole team, but Jeremiah is just the best.

Last one out and it's a toughie. Aha, just kidding, it has 35 Attack.

Just kidding again! It's actually FUCKIN BULLSHIT. And working off a better 55 Special Attack. Will Churchill defrost in time?

No. Still, that was fun and maybe it's a good way to grind. Once a day? Okay, maybe not.

Kanto Route 22

We only have one reason to ever come to this route, but might as well see what's, uh, changed?

You can find various Pokemon from Route 27 and 28 on this route. Did you know that? I didn't know that, how crazy.

But at least they haven't changed this route in the slightest. Cause what the hell could you change about this route?

Route 1

We've still got one more town to visit in this update and it's one hell of a nostalgic journey to get there.

"do is battle."

Though there's some new things to this route and I DON'T LIKE CHANGE

RIP your streak

Can't believe there's a load of strong trainers ready to beat up greenhorn guys.

Despite all the low level trainers around, my guys are still somehow getting levels.

: You obviously must have trained hard.

Pallet Town

Pallet Town: A Tranquil Setting of Peace and Purity
(Pallet is a set of colours)
Masara Town: Masara is colored with pure white.
(Masara comes from massara, brand new, or masshiro, pure white)

Can't sleep in any of the houses after our long journey, so let's visit Oak!

Oak's Pokemon Lab

: What do you think of the trainers out here? Pretty tough, huh? Ah, you're collecting KANTO GYM BADGES. I imagine that it's hard, but the experience is sure to help you. Come see me when you get them all. I'll have a gift for you. Keep trying hard, MARINA!

: Let's see... Current POKéDEX completion level:

: Are you trading your POKéMON? It's tough to do this alone! If you're in the area, I hope you come visit again.

: PROF. OAK, how is your research coming along? I'm still plugging away. I heard rumors that MARINA is getting quite a reputation. I'm delighted to hear that.

What a goddamn goon

Pallet Town

Who the fuck is this noob?

: He hasn't called either, so I have no idea where he is or what he's been doing. They say that no word is proof that he's doing fine, but I do worry about him. I worry about RED getting hurt of sick, but he's a boy. I'm proud that he is doing what he wants to do.

"in a long time..."

Well this is depressing, but I mean if he isn't using this stuff...

Next door better be more upbeat.

: But he goes out of town so often, it causes problems for the trainers.

: You can now trade POKéMON across time like e-mail.

And that's all for this update. Next time, it's the Battle Arcade! Oh yeah, I can tell you're excited! I know I am! RNG! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
