Side Notes 13: Time for Adventures! (GSC and Yellow Arc)

I should really talk about the manga more. Let's go over the Gold and Silver arc then, since it makes sense. Two years after the Yellow Arc (and therefore three years after the RGB Arc), a new adventure begins in the Johto region as we follow our new protagonist Gold. He's a rude, but friendly boy trying to track down those who stole his backpack, as well as trying to return the Totodile Silver stole from Professor Elm. It's definitely different to the previous arcs as no badges are collected, but it does revolve around the control and capture of legendary Pokemon.

Like how the anime continued on from the Kanto arc, so too does the manga. Previous characters from Kanto appear, including the other Pokedex holders, and join Gold, Silver and Crystal in their fight against the Masked Man. As a trio dynamic, GSC are pretty great, they play off each other really well, mainly due to Gold and his interactions with the uncaring Silver and exasperated Crystal. Having the previous protagonists return is also interesting as it shows the close link Kanto and Johto have, as well as show how the previous heroes have grown since we last saw them. Having the dark past shared for between Silver and Blue (remember, Blue's the girl) also increases that link between regions, as well as revealing that Green trained under Chuck and Red's been recuperating in Mt. Silver.

As I did before, I won't be really going into the story itself, as you really should just go and read the manga. It's all pretty fantastic and I will be talking about it in future, there is a lot to go into, after all. To go further into the story would make it difficult to not spoil one of the biggest spoilers and endings in the manga, which everyone has probably heard of by now, but it doesn't make it any less interesting. In fact, since I didn't really talk about the Yellow Arc in the Yellow thread, let's do that instead.

Yellow

It's been a year since the Gym Leaders and Team Rocket tried to fuse together the legendary birds and Red won the Pokemon League. But a new girl from Viridian Forest named Yellow finds Red's Pikachu beaten and wounded, with Red nowhere to be found. So she goes on a journey to find Red and finds a greater plot by the Elite Four to create an all Pokemon world.

Yellow is definitely one of the more interesting characters of the manga, not really liking battling, or evolving her Pokemon, while also having a close relationship with Blue, who knows all her secrets. And despite me not wanting to spoil the GSC Arc, I spoil the Yellow arc by revealing that Yellow is actually a girl. Oh well And having such a pacifist trainer take on and defeat the strongest Elite Four member Lance is definitely amazing. It's a great follow up to the RGB Arc and it sets the stage for a fair few things in the GSC Arc, so read them all for another feather in your cap, I highly recommend it.

But it's always weird talking about the manga. I find I don't have much to say because it's just better to go ahead and read it yourself. I wouldn't say the same of the anime, since it's a pretty clear colourful advertisement that doesn't have much to it. It can still be a lot of fun if you want to watch some animated battles and some colourful creatures, but above all, just read the manga, it's great. And it's a shame I won't be able to talk about the DPP manga, cause that is like the best. But I might be able to talk about all the other arcs around that, maybe?
