Part 125: Epilogues: Important Characters

Baba Yaga

Now, did you put it in your backpack? Ah! Here it is. Kids! We have it! That’s it! The final ingredient. Now we can make our greatest creation…

MANDRAKE MOUSSE!

quote:

To be honest, nothing much changed for Baba Yaga after her encounters with Nike. She helped some adventurers, she ate some others, and life for her went on as usual. Still, I’ve yet to hear of her venturing out of Surria for any reason, and I’ve heard that her taste for frogs has gone down quite considerably. For an old hag who’s met as many adventurers as her, I’d say Nike left quite the impression.

Ending: Wicked Witch

Ferrari and Ugarte

I wish you to bring me a small ornament to prove your skills. This ornament is the black figure of a bird, a falcon. I am an admirer of birds, you see.
Not really.

I am very pleased to make your acquaintance. I have heard much about you already.
They tried so hard to ugly up Peter Lorre, but it just wasn't possible.

quote:

In the end, Silmaria was just too small for both Nike and Ferrari, but fortunately for him, Nike recognized this fact. Since he had no real need to keep the Blackbird after he won the chief thief contest, he decided to give it back to Ferrari (for a reasonable sum, of course). His life’s ambition finally sated, Ferrari decided to take the easy route and left Silmaria entirely, moving to a city in northwest Fricana named “White House” or some such. Having recovered from his poisoning by then, Ugarte accompanied him, is still serving as Ferrari’s eyes and ears.

Ending: Mythology Gag

Uhura

Eye of the Tiger! Eye of the Tiger!

quote:

Uhura’s story was basically over, even by the time Nike met her. The real heroism came from the next generation, once Simba grew up. Now remember that the tribes of the savanna don’t believe in hereditary rule; although Yesufu was the head Laibon’s son, he never ended up taking the post himself, and when the Laibon’s successor died, Simba was already old enough to be a warrior. Maybe because his mother was still a warrior, maybe because he was taught stories of the wider world by Uhura, or (my personal preference) maybe because he had some adventuring blood in him, Simba proved himself such a capable warrior and able leader that he was made Laibon at a surprisingly early age. He then shocked the Simbani tribes by taking a warrior woman for his wife, and resisted all efforts to make him change his mind, or else convince his wife to change her profession. Between Simba and Johari, women of the Simbani tribe have gained quite a lot of status, but the old guard is still resisting. The tribe Nike met has basically accepted the new rules, but other tribes of Simbani haven’t been so accommodating, and there’s talk that war of a different sort is brewing in East Fricana. Change is definitely coming to the savanna, but it’s still anyone’s guess as to where it will lead.

Ending: Cleaning up the Town

Salim and Julanar

Hey, with all the murders going on here, I bet I know who did it. It must have been the Druggist in the Apothecary with the Poison!
Beloved, YOU are the druggist.

quote:

Julanar’s prediction turned out to be rather accurate, and Salim got the urge to leave Silmaria sometime after the dragon was defeated. Fortunately, he listened to Julanar, and only left once Andre was trained enough to replace them as the local apothecary. Last I heard, Salim was leading them off east somewhere, muttering something about “more spirituality” and “karmic sources.”

Ending: New Age Retro Hippies go to Shangri La

Erasmus and Fenris

Erasmus is my Familiar.
Isn’t that the other way around?
Familiar is my Erasmus? Well, I’ve always found Erasmus to be overly familiar…
No! I mean, aren’t you MY familiar?
Oh, poor Erasmus. All these years and you still don’t know.

quote:

Erasmus woke from his long nap feeling refreshed and raring to go on a new game with Fenris. Fenris was at first a little miffed to see his familiar so apparently unaffected by being so close to death, and wound up arguing with him about it. This being the natural state of their relationship, however, things quickly settled down to normal. Like most wizards, Erasmus seems to have a nearly infinite lifespan, so as far as I’m aware they’re still both up to their usual antics in Spielburg and Silmaria.

Ending: The Dumbledore

Rakeesh

The elemental stalks the streets, Hero. I’m surprised you didn’t encounter it walking here. Wait, how do you get around?
Well, I’ve got this map, and it’s got a little “you are here” dude, so I’ve been using it to get to places.
Ah, that explains it.
How?
Paper beats rock.

quote:

Rakeesh was rather disheartened by how useless he was in Nike’s various adventures, and decided that the time had finally come for him to retire for good. Instead of actively crusading for good, he contented himself with advising his brother Rajah and making sure Tarna stayed out of trouble. Of course, his life changed completely when he saw a young lizardman being attacked in the bazaar; apparently the cityfolk there had automatically assumed he was a hostile invader, and were throwing stones at the poor thing. Rakeesh intervened, and listened to the lizardman’s story of desperation and struggle. It was then that Rakeesh realized that, while his story might have ended, there was one more yet to begin…

Ending: Passing the Torch

That’s it for secondary characters. Unless there are any more requests, I’ll move on to fighter Nike tomorrow.
