Part 46: How a Wizard Wins

Chapter 25: How a Wizard Wins

And now, a first real look at the wizard version of Nike. We saw a bit of him before at the angry denouement at the end of the first game, but here he is in his own dimension.

[MEANWHILE, IN ANOTHER ANOTHER DIMENSION…]

That enchanting son of a bitch. He may have seventy years more experience, but I bet all he’s done in that time is grow overconfident.

Like this. He’s positively begging for it, leaving only two guards in front of his main gate. Just a quick Open spell…there. HEY, GUARDS!
Huh?

*DAZZLE*

All too easy.

*You race through the palace passageways, pausing now and again to evade scurrying guards. The djinni of the Ring, for all of his forgetful nature, seems to have a clear idea of where he’s taking you.*

Through here, Master! Iblis is close, and time is short.

There, Master. Through that door over there is the ritual chamber where Iblis is being summoned. Let’s go!
The people of the city are revolting, and Ad Avis has to choose this time of all times to do some sort of magical ceremony. I am ordered to guard this door when I should be out leading the troops. A pox upon the head of all magicians. You will have to give the orders. Let no one into the palace. If a single person gets past you, I will have your head on a platter.
To hear is to obey, sir.
I wonder what a calm Khaveen looks like?

*Khaveen visibly relaxes and appears to lose track of his train of thought. For a moment, he seems not to know what to do.*

As hilarious as I expected. Now, to get down.

A simple matter.

A quick Op—whoa, good thing I’m way over here.

At this point in the original, if you have any spells, you absolutely need Reversal, since the final combat will trigger as a wizard encounter. Supposedly, this is only true in the remake if you have passed the WIT exams and received Reversal, and it will trigger as the fighter encounter if you haven’t.

Still, I feel a premonition of forgetfulness.

You seem to have triggered a magical spell on that statue, Master.
No time for that, I have to stop the ritual! Force Bolt!

You! You will pay! By the Powers of all Darkness, by the Power of My Name! Shall your soul be mirrored outward, shall your body be the same!

*Brzap*

Khaveen will enjoy having you for his very own, but I doubt that you will live very long. You will pay for preventing me from releasing Iblis. You will pay!

I believe that a Reversal spell is called for by this situation.

Force bolt!
Anger!

*Deflect!*

*Brzap*

Fool!

*Deflect again!*

So! The hero has a reversal spell. Well, there’s a way around that!
How about you, Ad Avis? Are you protected?

*Yes*

Now what can I hit to take you down? Should I choose the pillar immediately behind you? Or perhaps I should bounce a Force Bolt off of the wall nearby? I know! I have to hit the brazier just so that—

*Fwoosh*

I’ve got you now.

Ahhh! Master, help me!
If that’s the best seventy years of study can do, it’s a good thing I turned down the master wizards. What a WITiot.
