Robin Hood

Part 2

Right, the Catacombs.

(Underground Catacombs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdIz...feature=related)

Creeepy, eh? If you don't have a torch, you can't even see in here. Fortunately, Axeman from the last update has one on his corpse.

I think I'm doing it wrong!

Anyway, the Catacombs are the first of many areas where we'll get swarmed by umpires guards. They take three hits at first, whereupon they'll yield two experience points and sometimes drop items or corpses with items on them.

Of course, damage dealing enemies present us with the possibility of dying. Robin literally detonates like a cluster of fireworks upon death. He is, after all, the main character, so his explosion should be one of the largest.

There really is no way to convey how fucking scary this was to me at seven years old.

Anyway, you can either begin the area again with little or no penalty, or you can just let Robin die.

Moral of the story: Don't get killed. The end.

You can Talk to the guards if you're close to them, but they don't have anything interesting to say.

Fortunately loot is pretty good with guards. A leg of meat is one of the best food items, and that block of cheese is worth gold!

Even though they're fairly incompetent, you'll want to avoid being surrounded by guards. If they do hit you, they can easily do 20-40 damage with one strike. If they all come from one direction, they can also bounce against each other, sometimes launching one of them straight into you for direct damage. If you're feeling creative, you can also lure them into attacking and then dodge at the last second; if another guard is close by, they'll get hit instead of you. This is a surprising amount of detail in the game, eh?

You'll also want to keep an eye out for a few yellow/red potions in this and other areas. Yellow potions will restore pretty much all of your health at any level, and red potions heal a small amount and bestow an enormous speed boost for a limited time.

While we're on the subject of equipment, you may want to make sure Robin keeps that sword. Azeem and Peter both use daggers, which do less damage and have less range. Example:

Sword

Dagger

There's a fairly wide variety of weapons in the game, so I'll try to showcase them all and explain how they might be handy. Plain daggers are never useful, though, so only use one if you're out of options.

Oh, and don't eat the Bandage.

Level 2!

Robin's Agility is now 70, and his Load is 58. He also does a bit more damage with his weapons, and his max HP is 125. Everyone else leveled up too, but Peter still sucks and Azeem is still ten points behind Robin.

At the end of the Catacombs...

- Oh no! They're surrounding us!

- Fight for your lives!!

So, these are the big free-for-all fights, the third mode of combat in Robin Hood. Robin is the yellowish figure, Azeem is white, and Peter is green.

These are the only fights where your party members' strengths come into play. Much like the duels, each character enters combat with their current HP, for good or ill. Each character's HP is shown at the bottom. The arrow indicator is whoever you're currently controlling and their current HP, which is usually Robin by default. You can also change characters you control with the Start button, in case you feel like playing as anyone else for a while.

There's really no point to switching characters, however; all enemies die with one hit, and everyone's differences are purely aesthetic.

If whoever you're controlling falls in battle, control automatically changes to the next person in line. For example, if you were controlling Peter, who was on the far right slot of the HP scales, control would jump back to Robin on the far left. If he died, then Azeem would be next, and so on until the battle ends or all party members are wiped out.

Yaaaaaaaa-what?

- I am badly wounded Robin!

- Hold onto my shoulder, Peter. We must hurry!

- My wound is mortal, I can go no further.

- We must hurry! More guards are coming!

- I will delay the guards as long as I can. Make your escape!

- Take this ring to my sister. Swear you will protect her for me... Swear it, Robin!

- I swear it.

Oh no, pack mule! Peter! Despite the urgency indicated in their words, you can tarry around the catacombs if you feel like picking up more items or killing some guards. The exit is straight to the north.

Hmm, I see. Marian, is it. I'm sure we'll never hear about her again.

Uhh, Robin, I don't think that's how you wear a ring.

After a ten month journey fraught with peril... Robin and Azeem at last reached the shores of England.

And just like that, we move on to merry chocolate-coated England, where I'm sure everything will be just fine!

See you next update!
