Robin Hood

Part 10

So, here we are back in camp. And apparently our men have been busy making... something. Whatever it is they're building, the camp isn't actually any different than when we left. Still the same tree houses, now empty of loot.

Marian's hanging around down at the bottom of the screen, but let's have her wait for a bit while Will gives us another mission.

- Our camp is growing, but the men are not experienced in the art of fighting! They need a trainer

- I've heard of a hermit nearby who's a master of any weapon!

- Let's pay him a visit. Perhaps we can convince him to join us.

All right, I guess this makes sense. Now then, about Marian.

- Marian? What are you doing here?

- I can stay only briefly. I have come to take Duncan back with me to Dubois. He'll be safer there.

And so, Duncan leaves our party...

...Or does he? Turns out you can avoid talking to Marian before going on your search for the weapon master. If you do, Duncan doesn't actually leave!

Sucker. Nobody's taking our blind meat-wielding madman away from the party!

This area of Sherwood Forest is not only large, but it's crawling with crossbow-wielding guards. It's fairly easy to get lost here, but fortunately there's only one landmark of note at the far northern end.

By the way, remember this lake? This non-monster infested lake? Sure is pretty, huh?

Anyway, at the north end of the forest we find the weapon master, along with his house and a well. Apparently he does the same boredom exercises as Guy.

You can use the rope near the well to grab this red potion, but besides rats there's nothing else down here.

You can also edge past the weapon master and stroll into his house. Pretty good loot. Especially the human stomach empty water flask on the floor. This will be important later on.

After thoroughly robbing the weapon master, let's see if he'll join us.

- I bid you greeting sir. I am Robin of Locksley, and would like to recruit your services as a trainer.

Wait... Will is the trainer?

Eh, whatever. You can say no and he'll let you go. But, where's the fun in that?

Something looks familiar about the weapon master, but I can't quite place my finger on it. Maybe he had a beard at some point?

Anyway, the weapon master is actually a pretty big pushover. The video showcases his fatal weakness. The following are a couple of outtake screenshots to make things more flavorful.

Gah! He's infecting Robin with green!

Okay, enough tomfoolery.

- My fee is two hundred gold pieces. I'll set out for your camp right away.

Amusingly, the weapon master actually takes 200 gold out of your supply. There's no way to have less than that amount, either; you can't buy anything before now, and the melee fights alone give you fifty gold each.

When we come back to camp, Marian is gone. Duncan-less.

- A flu has spread through our camp, the men are all ill!

- What can be done for them?

- I know of a mystical pond, whose water it is said can cleanse away all forms of sickness. The journey is a strange one. I have heard stories of strange creatures who live within its water!

- We have no choice. We must leave at once!

This game is really giving Robin Hood a lot of artful interpretation.

This stage is very small. In fact, the pond is the only other feature and is surrounded loosely by a small zone of clearings.

Oh, and that pond we've passed by no fewer than four times? Turns out it's infested by three monsters.

Water Monsters Fight - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdTzKcwMV50

This description made me laugh for some reason.

Despite the trouble the demo player had with these things in the intro, this fight is a joke. The monsters have bad aim with their arrows, and can hit each other more often than you if you position yourself correctly. I used the Locksley Bow mainly for theatrics; in reality I could have let them kill each other if I waited long enough.

The water instantly becomes safe again once the last monster is destroyed. Conveniently, there's another flask right next to the pond in case you didn't get the one from the weapon master's house.

The healing waters are actually useful for one very specific reason.

Free 100% healing! You can fill the flasks up as many times as you wish, and give Robin and each of his merry men a drink for quick and convenient healing. It also gives Robin a tremendous speed and attack bonus for about thirty seconds.

With two flasks full of healing water, we're all set. Time to go back to camp.

- With this healing water, the camp should be strong again very soon! More rumors of the Sheriff's evil deeds has reached our camp. Seems that a wicked baron and his army are lootin' and killin' as they go. A bunch o' 'em are headin' fer a small village. We gotta stop 'em before they wipe out the village.

...Is it just me, or is Will's accent getting worse?

Oh well. Next time on Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves:

Revenge of the ineffectual boss!

So what happens if you lose the duel to that guy?

Just like everyone else in this game...

Robin gets fucking murdered if he loses.
