Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

Part 114

Update 60

Let's advance now. There is nothing holding us up anymore.

Not even these two dudes.

Creepy witch thing and creepy strapon head furry.
Not such a big deal.

Done with that. No more problems out of those two.

Oh man. At least it is a new enemy.

Clearly this is a great idea.

Oh.

In any case: Bastard eats out of the Yggdrasil.

Hopefully Fire will do the trick.

Not quite, but better than healing it.

Gale does his stuff. Again.

Not bad loot at all. Notice: Loot is acquired much more often if more than one active character has Item Find activated.

No more interruptions from ambushes behind lame doors.

Well, except for enemies and such. And so forth.
Interestingly, Mot has an intermediate spell between Megido and Megidolaon.

Appropriately, the coffin (or the being inside the coffin) is a death god

It should have some Mudo things, though.

Clearly that is not going to be pretty for them.

Checking the farthest option is advisable, if it is not the next target, or leads to advancement, it can lead to new goodies.

Like this expensive plant.

Well, back to the proper advancement route.

A levelup, and then back to somewhat meh/weird map layouts.

And that is definite railroading. Sure, it wasn't exactly the most nonlinear dungeon ever even before, but closing off entire corridors like that is a bit meh.

Something nearby, I guess?

All for Serph. Nothing for anyone else. ANYONE. (I do the same thing in Dragon Quest. All for the main. All.)

There is definitely something behind that door. IS IT SOMETHING GOOD?

Well, shit. More goddamn crates blocking the route.

There is something that must be taken care of first.

This.

"Teradyne
Heavy Rock
Earth Amp"

Well that certainly was not productive. A trap. Who could've seen it coming?

More goddamn creepy furries.
Seriously, why the hell are their heads strapped on to their chest?

Loot could have been better, since malachite is just another ring stone.

Gale will get the second to last Earth Mantra. Argilla would've wanted it that way.
Or something.

And now that that is done and taken care of, it is time to advance.

Let's see what is behind that.

Chernobog! (Veoh)
Best gimmick fight in the game. (Viddler)
nOTICE: Discrepancy between screenshots and video due to not having the adequate skills in the first attempt. (Youtube)

Dude ain't bluffing for the latter statement.

He turns into the best gimmick fight in the game. A real fun one, too.

I like the interpretation of this god as a mushroom. It is weird. (Wikilink

But not weirder than him COMMITING SUICIDE AS HIS VERY FIRST ACT.

Which leads to the shadows becoming alive.

Yeah.

The copies are exact copies. Except for the HP, which is higher.
So that means they get ALL THE SKILLS THAT WERE ALLOCATED. That is not a good thing, unless you are prepared for the fight.

Oh boy.

Yeah. That led to a game over.

Second attempt! Superior strategy, activate!
Notice: I lucked out, and had it copy the least dangerous party member. Twice.

The key is to have all characters with fire skills as their main attack skill, and the rest being assist skills. And one having Fire Drain.
The copies will never use a non-attack skill. Ever. With this skill spread one can just eat away their turns.

And since Sera is inherently weak against Fire, this works rather well to one's advantage.

When they try to turn the tables, they are foiled. A Fire Drain shield takes care of their feeble attempts.

When the shadows are gone, Chernobog comes back. There was another reason why Fire was chosen.
Chernobog himself is weak against it. He can do nothing now.

He may have Focus powers, but that is not going to be very useful for him.

Not when there is a mind charged Agidyne coming his way.

Skull Ring is also very useful. There is a reason why it never leaves Serph's finger. Ever.

And that's how you roast that shroom.

Levelups for everyone. As it should be.

"He's talking brave, but... He'll be okay, ja?"
Who what when? He? Isn't Sera the one that is dying?

Oh.

"Even if Angel ordered them to destroy the planes, no one would listen."

Well, let's see the store.

"That's how serious business works; I've been watching you--this is definitely serious business.
Now, you might have gotten me a little mixed up with it...
But if there is one thing I know how to handle, it's serious business."

"That applies to... Both business and relationships. Remember that.

... Huh? Am I... Okay?
Heh... Don't be silly..
The customer... doesn't worry about the shop.
No go. Fly... Fly high."

Well, time to make use of his store, then.

Yaay.

The storekeep is sick. That is crappy.

Next: Possibly the last time exploring the airport. The end is near!
