Wow, you guys keep showing me what a dummy I am. Regarding that captain, I honestly wouldn't have thought that kind of behavior would have been so unusual, but I guess that's the ignorant opinions of a piece of civilian crap. Then again, I imagine very high ranking officers must maintain a certain decorum, and I'm sure plenty of anti-cussing old men are still working and influence the current sailors. And apparently that peanut farmer that every thinks is an idiot is more than just a beloved elder statesmen.

Also, thanks to everyone for keeping it interesting. I can't even keep up with most of it, but it's all very good.

In the Navy, if you are in command, you can and most likely will be fired for ANYTHING that goes wrong on your boat. Whether you knew about it or not, if you didn't know, someone should have told you. If you did know then you are incompetant and failed to act. 17 COs have been relieved this year, the Navy don't fuck around with it's boats. So Holly Graf never had a chance, not in the new Navy that considers it assault to cuss in someones face and considers shellbacking to be hazing unless done in a very specific manner.

2011 CO examples of how you are screwed based on hearsay and otherwise wrist-slap offenses

Rear Adm. Ron Horton was fired as commander of Logistics Group, Western Pacific, March 3 for failing to put a stop to the controversial “XO Movie Night” videos aired while he commanded the carrier Enterprise.

• Cmdr. Etta Jones, commanding officer of the amphibious transport dock Ponce, was fired April 23 on deployment “due to demonstrated poor leadership, and failure to appropriately investigate, report, and hold accountable sailors found involved in hazing incidents,” a Navy announcement said. Jones also “failed to properly handle a loaded weapon” during a security alert, which the announcement said “endangered some of her crew.”

• Cmdr. Nathan Borchers of the Norfolk, Va.-based destroyer Stout was fired March 1 for a “pervasive pattern of unprofessional behavior” among the ship’s crew.
