Part 43: Update 41 – Pimp My Island

Some men dream of riches, or of world peace. I dream that someday I will remember to put a journal entry in the right place.

This update is going to be a little out of order because the next cutscene is riggered by going back to Crescent Island. That's going to have to wait for a bit, because I promised you all some thrilling tales of home deco this update!

Here's the island as it stands. It's a nice start and all, but a few log cabins do not a badass pirate base make. Kirala won the vote to renovate the island, so let's see what she makes of Kalifa's tent.

I've never been quite sure why Kalifa lives in a tent on Crescent Island. She lived in a perfectly normal house back in Maramba, but whatever. Until now her tent on the island was an old storage tent full of tools and bits and bobs, so I doubt she's complaining. Also, you can see in the background that the pathways around the island get made into nice stone paths by improving the buildings.

Upgrading her home unlocks 100g fortunes as well as the old 10g one. They're...every bit as useless as the cheaper ones.

The Red Moon has granted me a vision! You must feed the doctor's bird with fish that cannot be seen! Your generosity will be rewarded as that bird holds treasures unlike any you have seen before.

...Yeah . But hey, at least we don't have the dusty old storage tent making the place look ugly any more.

Next up are the sleeping quarters! I'll show a view of the island so you can see the outside soon, so here's the inside:

Not bad, very Yafutoman-y. Upgrading each building also unlocks some new, like the new fortunes. Upgrading the sleeping quarters nets you...

The only function Pinta has left in the GC version!

Where is the island, you ask? Heh... it's a secret. Well, if you're only interested in the animals, I can bring some back here. It will cost 500 gold to pay for their food and stuff. Do you still want me to catch some for you?

Some animals, huh? Hmm... it might be nice to have some pets around here. Well, why not. Go ahead and catch some for the island, okay? Aye aye! But first, what kinds of animals would you like?

From what I remember, the “something scary” is a crocodile, the “something colourful” is some parrots and the “something cute” is a panda. This one isn't going to the vote because we're getting a goddamn panda .

I guess I'll go with the cute ones. Otherwise, Aika will probably start complaining.

Aye aye! I'll go catch some right away!

Panda. With rabbit ears. You can also just make out a relief of Vyse carved into the wall behind it, which is another of the decoration options. You can choose any of the three main characters, but I figure this is Vyse's island, having one of the girls carved into it would be weird.

Finally, the kitchen! It may be fully stocked with Yafutoman ingredients and cooking equipment, but I'm pretty sure Polly can use it just as easily as Urala. Speaking of which...

I wanted everyone to get a taste of Yafutoman food! But the ingredients are so expensive here... It will take at least 1,000 gold...

Um... Are you sure about this?

Sure, don't worry about it. But you'd better make us some really good food!

Thank you very much! I'll get started right away!

It'll take Urala a while to get those ingredients, so for now let's go take a look around the island.

As well as the pathways around the island, a few other things get upgraded when the buildings do. Gonzales gets a swanky new gravestone.

And a pond springs up in the middle of the island, although Vyse thinks it could do with a fountain.

Much better! There's a few other options for this, but you're crazy if you think I'm going to turn down the option for a Cupil fountain.

Oh yes, and Domingo is in the meeting room, which is why I couldn't find him before. He has a fun little function.

Well then... let me check out your discovery log. Ah, you've made 87 Discoveries! Now THAT'S impressive! You really are something else! You're one of the greastest explorers of our time! You've earned this!

Domingo hands out various rewards for filling the discovery log, and for getting all the discoveries on the map you get...a White Map . Not only are you virtually guaranteed to have one already by this point, but you can fly above the clouds and avoid random encounters on the world map anyway. But hey, it's the thought that counts.

Anyway, let's see what Urala makes of her new ingredients.

Um... if you like, I could make you lunches that you could take with you on your travels... All I need is 10 “Romuhai Fish” They're a type of fish that's common back home in Yafutoma...

Actually, if it's Romuhai Fish you need, I have 10 right here.

Really? That's great! I can get started right away!

...Thank you for waiting. I really hope you enjoy it. It will heal all of your wounds and replenish all of your magic... but takes a little while to start working, so you can't eat it during a battle.

Urala's Lunch is exactly like Ilchymix, only ten times the hassle to get and you only get one of them instead of ten. But hey, it's not like you have any other use for the random fish you pick up flying around.

Now this is a pirate base! I'd like to see Valua mess with us now .

Now that the island is fully decorated, I think it's time for that plot progression I put on hold. To the meeting room!

Hey, long time no see! Wow.. you've got yourself a nice little base set up here!

I heard that you sailed around the world! As always kid, it seems like you've been trying to get yourself into more trouble... I came here to hear all about your travels... that, and for a good meal.

Also to get away from Clara.

Haha... good old Gilder... pleasure before business.

And so in the end, you collected the five Moon Crystals... nice work.

Read 'em and weep, Valua.

Yup, we got them all!

And since all of them are together, I suppose that means Fina will be taking them with her when she heads home soon...

Actually, there was something that was bothering me earlier...Fina, where exactly did you come from? I mean, where are you going home to?

…..

Fina?

...is the Great Silver Shrine. It is in a place, high above the sky...

The Great...Silver Shrine?

The most powerful Silvite mages met at the Shrine. They combined their energy to send it into the sky...above the destruction. They escaped the horrible fate that fell upon the rest of the world, by rising above the destruction. Ever since then... from above... we have sworn to protect the people of this world from the same fate that our ancestors suffered. That is the primary mission of the remaining Silvites. The Great Silver Shrine is high above the clouds, where no ship can reach it... I plan to take the Moon Crystals back to the Great Silver Shrine. So that no one will ever be able to abuse their power again.

But...how are you going to get home?

If I can get back the ship that I came in, then I should be able to make it home. But, when I was attacked by Valua, my ship sank beneath the clouds...

Yes, I remember. ..you're talking about that ship you were flying when Alfonso attacked you.

Hmm...it appears that we must find another way of getting Fina home.

But...if we find a way to get Fina back home...

…..

I started thinking, if I am unable to find a way home...that I'll be able to stay here, with everyone.

Meanwhile, in the Fortress of Evil...

The construction of the port is complete. And De Loc's flagship is being fitted so that it will be able to submerge into Deep Sky. I've also received word that the elevator leading to the bottom of Deep Sky has been competed as well.

Excellent. The time grows near...soon, the foolish Empress and the rest of the people of the world will bow before my might...

The people, the lands, and even the Moons...they will all belong to me...

You shall reign supreme, Lord Galcian.

Tomorrow morning, I will leave for Dangral. I wish to oversee the final stages of the construction myself. And tell the other Admirals to assemble at Dangral. I wish to know where they stand...

Yes, Lord Galcian.

I walk the path of death and destruction. I know you are a Silvite... if you wish to change your mind, now is the time.

And I will cut down any of those that block our path. It is my duty...it is my purpose.

There are, I feel, two important things to take away from this exchange: One, if you ever meet a man who will use the word “excellent” in cold blood, run. Run as far as you can, and then run some more. Secondly, this game may be gloriously free of Standard Anime Girls, but I think we've just found our yandere.

Meanwhile, in the League of Justice...

Oh, Gilder... you're leaving already?

Yeah, I need to get going...but before I go, I have some news for you. I found out some information on the Armada's latest project. I just heard about this the other day... it appears that Valua has begun advancing into the lower altitudes...I heard that North of Pirate Isle, somewhere beneath the clouds, they're building a base on Dangral Island. It's just a rumour, but I heard they're building a ship that can go into Deep Sky...

No one has ever seen what's below the clouds... some people say that it's completely dead...

What could they be looking for down there?

I don't know. But, Fina's ship sank beneath the clouds, right?

Hmm...you're right. That must be what they're after. Thanks, Gilder. We'll go check it out.

You don't need to thank me! Good luck, Vyse!

Sounds like we have our next lead! Sadly, I think checking it out is going to have to wait until next time. So then, next time, we attack a Valuan military installation to search for a way of plumbing the abyss so we can go to space!

I love this game.
