Part 12: Two Roads. One Way - Part 2

Two Roads. One Way.

Last time, our heroes made a deal with the Seeker guild for information about NOAH. They had to support one of the gangs in the area, as the Seekers grew tired of the constant fighting. After a lengthy battle, they secured the victory for the TFR. And now only one thing remains - forcing the remaining Claws out of the area.

Be careful, this clip is kinda loud

Of course, beating the Claws isn't enough. We need to finish the job and make them leave this area for good. And that translates into blowing up their base!

But before we do that, let's survey the area and see what we can scavenge from the last battle.

The disabled T-55 is in a pretty bad state, but at least it has some shells left.

The Shilka is in a much better shape though. I'm kinda surprised that it still has so much structure left. Well, less time needed for fixing it, which I would have done no matter how busted it may have been. Yeah, I love the Shilka that much.

The fighting in Bergstadt also left some things for us.

Aside from some gear, guns, and a stash of medkits, I also find a disabled BTR. I'm pretty sure that this is the one that I left for the TFR Humvee to kill. No idea how it managed to get disabled. It was on fire and everything

Since we're now pals with the TFR, we can also freely move through their base. Of course, this means looting the heck out of it.

This is a new type of loot-box that we haven't seen before, and it contains ammo for vehicles. You can't use that ammo during your current mission though. It gets dragged back to your base, and shows up in the ending screen just like salvage.

There are a few boxes here, so have a list

This type of loot-box will always contain some good stuff, so you better keep an eye out for them. They are also the only guaranteed source for vehicle ammo in the game, so you better catch em all! Oh, there are also some normal boxes around, with 7,62 ammo, a light and a heavy vest.

Okay, time to blow shit up!

The TFR supplied us with all that we need.

The end of the last battle, also made some spawns happen around the Claw base.

These outposts were empty at the start of the mission.

Both have an RPG and M60 soldier, and can cause some heavy damage if you just drive up the road. So I'm going to sneak some soldiers in their back to ambush them.

While doing so, I also discover a third outpost.

It's far away from the base, and doesn't really matter at all. But we are at war, right?

Have some frag shells!

I snuck two soldiers behind each outpost. They'll insta-kill the RPG guys with grenades, before gunning down the other soldiers.

I also did it simultaneously, for the style-points.

Okay, with the area clear, let's take a look at the Claw base.

Dang, that's still a lot of opposition. In theory, you could engage them. I would have to abuse the game mechanics very hard, but I think it's possible. However, I really didn't want to invest the time to find out, so let's do it the legit way.

You have to destroy three targets inside the base. The train yard, and two buildings. All of them are marked on your map, and if you scope out the base, it's not too hard to find out how to do this quietly. There are two points where you can hop the wall, and the patrols inside the base are thin and it's easy to observe their rounds.

First, I'll send Akim into the train yard.

He plugs a guard, before getting back out again. I want to synchronize the explosions a bit, so I'm going to place the other charges first. I just think that it's easier to set the other two timers first, since they are basically next to each other.

Let's jump over to the other part of the base.

You can also hop the wall here, and the warehouse keeps you hidden. The other targets are the building with the smokestack, and the warehouse across from it. There are only a few patrols around, and you really only need to take out two of them.

This one...

..and that one.

Here you can see that the pause icon will block the menu for a third explosive. It makes timing them a bit harder, but it's just a nitpick. Speaking of, nice job on the clipping fire effects.

Eh, close enough.

I also have to tell a little story about that shot. See the Shilka in the back? It was stationary in the base while I did my sneaking. When Boris entered the train yard, it suddenly decided to drive towards him. I panicked a little, and had him bolt for whatever cover there was. Just before reaching the yard, the Shilka turned away and drove out of the base. I'm just bringing this up to point out that stationary vehicles aren't glued to their positions. They can decide to drive around a bit. It's rare and random, but will happen. So keep that in mind while doing your sneaking.

Well, enjoy the show!

Despite what the scenes says, we'll never hear from the TFR again. Yeah, it's just a really underdeveloped part of the game.

With their home burned to the ground, the remaining Claw units get out.

You can still attack them if you want. But come on, they're probably crying and depressed

Well, our mission is complete and we can return to Vladow. But before we do that, there is loot to collect.

At the outskirts of the base, you can find a few medkits.

This is also on the outskirts, and needs a few words. That box is walled in. You can't destroy the wall, for whatever reason. You actually have to blow up the whole building to get that box. But as it only contains 7,62 ammo, I didn't even bother.

The Claw guards that I killed had Ak-74 rifles and ammo, and I'm actually going to use more of them from here on out.

Of course, the base also has a bunch of boxes that we can grab.

Pretty good haul!

Okay, now we'll drive back to Vladow and get our sweet tank.

The Claws also placed this little row of mines at the start of the road to their base, and I defused it like a good LPer would. Anyone who says that I forgot about it, got like eight of my guys killed and had to replay half of this mission, is a dirty liar.

Also, I collected a little secret on the way.

Another free Humvee, tucked away near the edge of the map.

Hey Vladow, time to pay up!

It's refreshing to finally hear about a town that has a Russian name

Tank time!

Look at all those shells

I'm going to talk about the T-55 during the next base update, but it's basically a beast that smashes stuff with explosions.

So, time to get home, right?

Nah, there is still one thing left to discover. You probably will discover it right at the start of the mission, but I wanted to put it at the end of this update for a reason.

Right next to the Seeker camp, you can find a church.

A priest is talking to a crowd of people there.

Huh, I guess nobody cares about religion anymore when the apocalypse already happened. But I have to say, his rant somehow reminds me of the different crazy people we met much earlier in the game. They also talked about demons, and ghost that stalk the woods and grab people...Hmmm, let's chat him up...

SUDDENLY

A ghostly creature breaks through the wall, and kills the priest. With a minigun
