Spycraft

Part 1: Interminable Exposition

We join our hero, Case Officer Thorn, on what appears to be his CIA lunch break. Doubtless everyone’s interest is piqued by the dramatic headline. At the bottom of the screen we see the inventory and interface tools that Spycraft offers. We have an incoming message, but let’s stop to acquaint ourselves with the inventory.

At the bottom left is the briefcase, which contains the tools of the trade. We have access to all manner of knives, lock picks, and anything else that can easily be concealed in the anal column.

At the bottom right is Intelink, our impossibly futuristic PDA with access to instant information and communication.

Comlink is a video phone link to other agents and contacts. When this game was launched, the Weblink button launched web-based content. This is unfortunately no longer available. We will use Datalink to connect with the computer systems of other agencies, and Newslink is pretty much what it sounds like.

Our newspaper-gazing is interrupted by an urgent message from Thorn’s direct superior, DDO (Deputy Director for Operations) Eugene J Warhurst (James Karen).

Thorn, it’s Warhurst. We’ve got a situation. We’re building the team. Meet me at Langley, in the lobby.

This leads directly into the intro video. Stick with me through the exposition; I promise it gets interesting soon. Here’s the video link; I’ll transcribe the important bits if you want to skip it. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xo...-ch1_videogames

New Characters

At this point we know very little about them, but we'll meet them all in detail as the op gets underway.

Lead Agent Bruce Jefferies
Mark Phelan

DCI (Director of Central Intelligence ) Peter Sterling
Dennis Lipscomb

David Holt
Joseph Latimore, In-House Support

Jamie Seaton
Chase Masterson, In-House Support

Theodore Lange
Nicolas Read, Field Agent

Asai, Field Agent

Parker, Field Agent

Let’s go. They’re all waiting.

All right. Let’s get started. You all know Bruce Jefferies; we brought him back for this mission. People, this is serious. Eugene and I have chosen Jefferies to run this op. He’s drafted David Holt from the DI, and Jamie Seaton from S&T as in-house support. He’s also going to need a dependable operative in the field, which is why you’re all here. Lang, Asai, Parker, and Thorn. Now Gene promises me you’re the best of the new crop. Now you’ve got to keep that promise.

I’ll make sure one of them does.

I want you all at the farm at 0600. Bruce has designed your regimen. Top performer gets the mission and reports back here for the full briefing.

Good luck.

Summing Up

There's some kind of crisis going on, but we don't have the details. Probably has something to do with the Russian treaty. If we ace the training at the Farm, we'll get the full briefing.

Next time on Spycraft: The Great Game:

Thorn goes down on the farm for some intense CIA training, fun with satellite imagery, and a couple people get shot in the head.
