As said in the video, this is one of two win conditions for the game. The other is an Away Mission that happens if you flee or ignore the space battle, and it will be the next and last video.

To my shame, I ripped the ending movie for beating the Veridian fleet from the CD. That's why there's some weird white pixel artefacts floating around as well. In my defense, I think it's impossible to survive for more than ten seconds against those Dreadnoughts, let alone beat them.
