Part 13

I'm sorry, guys.

So we're going to level 19 to find another jeweled chest. I actually tried this a couple days ago, but the game crashed midway through and lost everything. So here we go again.

We enter level 21. I use my tool of structural analysis & notice there's a neat-looking room to my right. So of course we go over...

And immediately there's a demonswarm. Boooo.

We cut my way through without too much trouble - the narrow corridor keeps their multiplication in check. And what's inside the room?

Traps. Every tile a trap.

Well, they can't all be winners.

To the north, structural analysis finds us some stairs to level 20, so we climb them. Then we

Oh.

Okay. Trying again.

We end up in the same layout again. This time we skip the trap room and just head to the stairs up. From here out I'll save every time we climb stairs.

We take a slightly more circuitous route this time, though, and run into this room:

The whole center area was full with Martian Redweed until I cleared it out with a missile barrage. Redweed is harmless, but it grows fast as hell. It'd be the sort of thing we'd worry about ruining dungeons... if it weren't for the demons serving that role!

This time, when we enter level 20, we find ourselves in a sealed room with some nasty elementals and Lucy Westenra. (Lucy isn't dangerous, but she does have quite a lot of HP.) We fight it out for a few rounds, until...

We're tossed out through the wall.

Huh.

Anyway, we kill Lucy again. (I ran into her in the lost attempt from a few days ago, too.)

We enter level 19 and hunt around for a while, but wherever we go, there's...

Demons.

Ugh.

OK, I give up. I enter the next level & fail the quest. The skill points aren't worth it!

Before we recall back, we clear out a nest of Jikiniki that are in the entry room to level 18.

These guys are basically loot pinatas. Delicious. They give us two nice items:

Not too impressive in general, but the slay means it absolutely annihilates those Martian Walkers we've been seeing lately. We'll keep it for use against them; not like we need the inventory space for loot, now. (We are preposterously rich.)

Equipping this thing puts us at around 850 HP and over 300 AC. Ridiculous.

OK, new quest:

Should be trivial. Beastmen are jokes.

Back to level 18, and

FOR FUCK'S SAKE

Up!

Here we go. First up on the right is a cute unique. He goes down in four rounds, no thanks to the powerful earth elemental behind him that's busily blasting earth everywhere.

Note that "he cannot be stunned" in the description. I, uh... guess him being stunned is a bug?

We scuffle with a monster pit filled with wasps, and end up retreating towards a room filled with beastmen. The fight is tricky-

Oh.

OK, back to the start of the level. Kill Rimon. This time we try to avoid the monster pit by heading left instead of up from the start, but not only do the pit monsters bust out on their own, this happens:

Dracula!

He goes down in three rounds. Lucy was several times as tough. (Though Drac did more damage, in the one round he managed to hit us.)

I'm starting to get swarmed by wasps, so I decide to teleport out. (They're not dangerous, just tedious.) Unfortunately, there are minor demons waiting at our destination, plus an enemy I've not seen before: the Steam-Powered Mechanical Dragon. I start to test its resistances with my various weapons...

Yeah, OK.

I'm sorry, guys. This is unplayable.

It's been a pleasure playing this as long as I have, anyway. Hope you enjoyed it! Sorry I can't see it to the end.
