Part 136: Soviet Turn 8

Soviet Turn 8

Coiler's troops seem to be a lot less active now that the majority of his frontline has been exterminated (seems to). His weapons team gets into a firefight with a mech section. Our section is on the recieving end initially, but has backup from other nearby units.

The usual ineffectual firefight with the Albanian reserves continues, but they take a bit too much return fire this time, which I chalk up to them being heavily pinned. Also, a ridiculously lucky shot kills two of them. So the rest of Coiler's turn goes fairly predictably and -

- Sweet Stealthy Albanians, Coiler; What the hell did you do?! Somehow a Reserve section snuck up to 1 hex of our tank without being spotted (and there is at least one other section nearby).

I mean, I don't think this adds up to a dangerous situation or anything but how the hell did this happen?

The 152mm barrage repeats itself, so any sections Coiler managed to rally just now have been unrallied. Thus begins our turn.

Still only token movement in the south. But we're now positioned to enter the forest at a turn's notice, so that's helpful.

And then it's Coiler's turn to get a ridiculously lucky shot. After pinning the hell out of his sapper section with this scout unit, he kills two of them with a <10% shot. And I was hoping on having access to those three VPs soon.

The center has been rapidly destabilised, and those intrusive reserve units will hopefully be exterminated soon. The ones who snuck up close don't have the mercy of forest cover, so they could easily be annihilated if the T-64 or another well positioned unit gets a decent shot.

The Albanians in the forest have a MiG-23 and a 152mm battery pointed at them, so I really don't expect them to last for a long time either.

There were one or two surprises this round, but we still seem to be slowly gaining ground. We know Coiler probably has a Reserve Company (explaining the Weapons Section) and a unit of Sappers, so there will be more infantry units to come. So I'm going to be sure to use artillery more in the coming turns to cook some of them ahead of time.
